Nice job - does anyone know how the Airfix compare to the Valom Hampden (I have an unstarted Hampden & Hereford given to me as a gift?) May have to investigate the W&N matt varnish - I had a similar experience with a bottle of Humbrol Matt Cote.
-
Can anyone assist - I am about to start an RS Models 1/72 Avia 534 in Bulgarian colour scheme - the paint schemes shown on the box are not very clear regarding the colour of the underside of the the top wing surface. Should the underside surface of the upper wing be the same light grey colour as the underside of the lower wing of the biplane? Hope this makes sense and thanks for an assistance!

Fi156 Winter Storch 1/72

Yikes - I have a heller storch in progress (squiggley desert camo) - me thinks it might not be worthy of a post now!!!!!!!!! Awesome job! -

Nice - I've been doing some 1/72 Heller WWII kits - I think they did one of these too - next stop ebay!!! -
That'll probably be about the state my model is in when it's done!!!!! The very markings of the Heller kit!!!
-
Thanks for all the info

if you look here - this one has a similar idea - the last letter is actually on the band (yellow) in this case http://www.flickr.com/photos/67307569@N00/238600925/

Thanks Dave - I assume the 5 should sit within the White band the same as the K does? I've hand painted the squiggles and want to assemble and apply the decals Thanks again Gordon

Could someone in the know firstly excuse my ignorance and assist me - I am building a Fiesler Storch and it's nearly decal time - the Heller instructions are a bit vague re markings - I only have a view of the left hand side of the aircraft on both the instructions & box art - pointers on how the letters and numbers should appear on the right hand side? The decals are in 2 parts 5F and YK Pic of box art (sorry had to use the phone - but you should get the idea) Thanks in advance

I like that - wacky camo and a "lived in" look! -
I've visited Krakow a few times (prior to taking up modelling again) - the kiosks still exist - may look at them differently the next time I visit!!

Bill - I think the box was labeled with the company name Plastyk (and is horrible bright blue moulding with mountains of flash). In terms of colours - the top surface is Humbrol 155, which after extensive internet trawling, I understand is not a bad match for Polish Khaki - the underside is Hu 87 - Steel Grey (quite a blue / grey). The instructions stated the usual aircraft blue, a colour I hate and think is a bit too blingy!!! Again I'd read on the internet that the underside of Polish aircraft is a bit paler than aircraft blue. The engine cowling is Hu 171 - Antique Bronze (with a wee bit of Hu 113 rust mixed through) There are pictures of the last remaining aircraft if you google it. The aerials are stretched sprue painted with Hu53 Gunmetal - all paint is enamel (multiple thinned coats) I used the same colours to build 2 Heller PZL 23 (A& see previous post Karas The Karas I think is a fantastic kit. The P37 is painted using the same colour scheme - although I'm struggling with the decals - there are lots of tiny Polish text decals and the instructions don't indicate where they should all go (The GF is translating for me - but even with the English it's difficult to guess where they go) The P37 is made by "Mister Craft" in Poland - sadly the mould halves don't appear to match well - anyway - the P37B might be ready by the end of the week so lookout next weekend or next week for pics. I'm curious why this is your Dad's favorite aircraft? I did a Heller Morane Saulnier 230 which is very similar (and a much better model) - Thanks for your kind comments and for looking Also - Bill - do you know of any 1/72 Hurricanes or Spits in Polish livery - so I can add to my Polish Airforce.
-
Thanks - I'm improving (slowly) but was pleased with the hand painted finish - I have to say that I used 3 thin coats of Quichshine on the enamel prior to decals - it does help with the overall appearance prior to the Matt coat - Thanks for looking

Thanks guys - I would say it's an ok little build of a thoroughly nasty little kit - as I said I only do it for fun - I had to use stretched sprue for the undercarriage tie - the kit piece was dreadful!
-
Nice build - as I said in another topic - I like the more esoteric subject from that era! Do you know if a 1/72 version is made by anyone?
-
Nice - anything else to look out for - I got one of these for £5.99 in TK Max a couple of weeks a go - haven't started it yet - Did the fuselage fit ok - I heard varying reports about it?

F-14 A Tomcat 'Vandy One'
Savenosouls replied to BasicModelling's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Yikes - impressive at that scale - goodness knows how my eyes would end up - 1/72 is bad enough - Does anyone know of a 1/144 Vulcan? -
I finished them about a week or so ago - didn't have time to photograph stuff :-) I tend to do 2 at a time - as they are only 1/72 and I use enamels I spend a lot of time waiting on the paint drying!!!!
-
Thanks Cliff - I agree with your Oddball = 'bl***y brilliant' - Next oddball will be P37B Los Bomber & a Fiesler Storch - also in the stash a rather nifty Heller Saab J21 & a Morane Saulner 225 (already did a 230)
-
Next of my production line - again I only do this for fun!! I've been buying some Heller kits from ebay - here is another of them - I like the eclectic nature of some of the Heller aircraft - I only do it for fun & relaxation, and I do like the old Heller kits. Only thing added was a pilot to fill out the sparse cockpit - and a bit of plastic card to prevent a view of the pilot's feet from the underside wheel well!!! (And yes I can't paint canopies in the slightest without it looking like a 3 year old has done it. All painted by hand - humbrol enamels - quickshine (klear substitute) - humbrol matt coat - FYI that quickshine stuff is the dog's dangley bits for applying decals Thanks for taking the time to look - I am away to carry on with the next completely unworthy batch compared to the Da Vinci masterpieces some of you post.
-
Not really worthy compare to the masterpieces on here but if anyone is interested here is a PZL 11 in 1/72 - a particularly nasty piece of plastic - but the GF is Polish and it came from the aviation museum in Krakow where the only remaining one lives. I only build the models for fun - so go easy. Sorry about the photos - camera limitations. For those that are interested - humbrol enamels with a hairy stick - quicksine (Klear Substitute) and humbrol matt varnish - stretched sprue rigging. (Polish P37B Los to follow later in the week - an equally nasty kit) For anyone that looks thanks - hope you find it interesting - I've been trying to do some oddball stuff on my return to the hobby.
-
On my return to modelling - I was unable to get any old style clear - tried using humrol decalfix - however have now ditched it in favour of "Klear Substitute" - ie Quickshine Floor Stuff available from Lakeland - works for me
-
Thanks for the advice - I'll test paint an old tail and have a test first (in between finishing my P37B Polish Bomber (another ecclectic kit - this time from Poland!!!)
-
They are visible in the pic, thanks - the circles are raised like the rest of the Heller detail. The kit seemed like a bargain until I realised the squiggle pattern!!!!! (The Storch and an MS 225 cost approx £6.00 for the 2 incl postage!!) I've been getting back into the hobby for the last 10 months (after about 30 years) and really like the old Heller kits. Once again the knowledge and willingness to part with it from this forum amazes me - thank you, I should add that the quality of most of the stuff here is gobbsmacking (my efforts are not really worthy, but I'll persevere for the enjoyment and relaxation) So thanks again to the Britmodeller Masive for it's help.

Wet and dry put back in box!!!!!
