Morane Saulnier MS225 - Heller 1/72
Savenosouls replied to Savenosouls's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
The photos were taken with an ipad which perhaps makes the finish look not too bad - however since restarting the hobby I am a lot more patient than younger years and when brushing use multiple thinned coats - the top surface probably had 4- 5 coats followed by Quickshine and then Matt Coat -

Thanks for all your kind words - one question - does anyone know what happened to the Heller moulds after their demise? Does anyone own them? -

One skill I have taught myself is the art of the cigarette lighter, fire, Ikea Chopping Board & stretched runner for rigging - it is not that dificult! -

I have seen a Heller Neuport Delage 622 - similar sort of plane - might see if I can get one. -

The roundel started to break up a little - I had coated them with Quickshine (clear substitute) and I think it helped a little - I did an MS 230 some time ago and the letters broke up badly. I have a Heller Saab J21 but have invested in new decals. I do like the old Heller kits - I have been doing more oddball things since my return! I'm not sure what other Heller kits like this are available - may have to go an trawl round ebay - Thanks for your kind comments. I only do this for relaxation and tip my hat to the skill of some on here. -
My latest humble effort compared to the masters on here - if anyone wants a look here you go:- Humbroll Enamel, brush painted, quickshine (clear substitute) & humbroll matt coat. Thanks for looking:-

Cheers - I just build out the box for fun - I ahd bought a set of the decals though - I just did another vintage Heller Kit (Morane 225) and the decals started to disintigrate - the ones in my very old J21 kit look even older so didn't fancy risking them) - nice build, I had been trying to build "oddball" prop jobs now my 35 year sabatical is over!!!
-
Now that I know where to get some decals I might do the one I have - nice job - Are there any pitfalls re fit etc I should know about before i start?

Much apreciated Wez - Ta

Thanks I did find these - but I couldn't find any way to source them via the internet - anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone by any chance know whether there are any after market decals available suitable for a Saab-J21 1/72 Heller Kit? I have the kit and would like to build it - however I had a look at the decals and they don't look very good & I don't have a lot of confidence in my abilities (given that I've just applied some vintage Heller decals on another project that did not go well) I had a trawl round the internet - but couldn't find a source to buy any? Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the advice - I was thinking I'd go with my usual routine but wanted to check - I do like the effectiveness of the Quickshine on the decals
-
I use Humbrol enamels - and then use a product called Quickshine (available in the UK from Lakeland, who import it from the USA) 2 thin coats of it on enamel normally brings up a shine you can see you face in - I also use it to apply the decals, sucks them down like a hoover on steroids - I finish with Humbrol Matt Coat. If you try it don't be put off by it's milky colour - works a treat.
-
Looking for some advice - I hand paint all my planes with humbrol enamels and use Quickshine (Klear Substitute from Lakeland here in the UK) before applying the decals (again with Quickshine) and finally add a coat of Humbrol Matt Coat. I am currently building an Airfix F51 D Mustang and have hand painted it with Humbrol Aluminium Metal Coat (ref 27001) and I am almost at the decal stage - not sure whether I should do my usual routine with the Quickshine & Matt or use no Quickshine and them Matt - Any advice gratefully recieved Ta In Advance for any help

I built the Heller kit a few months ago following a 35 year gap - The clear parts are not easy to assemble to create the cockpit - and I hope you a patient painting the things!!!! - The heller kit is nice - I even attempted the squiggly camo (which seemed like a good idea at the time!!) No "banned german insignia" on the decal sheet.

Thanks for the info - if anyone else knows where the jig is could they post it - ya -
The PZL 11 was by a company called Plastyk (the mould did have heavy raised lines) - bright blue plastic with loads of flash - It too was brought from Poland - in fact from Krakow - where the only surviving plane lives in the aviation museum. I didn't know Heller did a version - I quite like the old Heller kits - I did 2 PZL 23's in the 2 version on the decal sheet - I will need to go and have a rummage round ebay to see what turns up.
-
Funny you should say that!!! - The instructions were not clear and I did wonder - The previous similar PZL11 I did was not really a help as it was a particularly nasty piece of plastic!!!

Pete The eyesight went some time ago!!!!!! As for the dark magic - couldn't agree more - not sure how you acquire a set of the juju weathering beans!!!!!!! However you are correct - I restarted about 2 years ago after a gap of about 35!!! - I wish the internet had been about then - I am however proud I have mastered the art of setting fire to the runner/sprue and stretching it where necessary (all without setting of the smoke alarm) Thanks to all who look in - I build to instructions & instruction colours (near enough) - just for fun - but I am in awe of some of the stuff!!!!!
-
Pete - thanks for the tip - These wings were one piece - If the wings are 2 piece - ie top and bottom - I try and paint them before I stick them together! I only do this to switch off - I can only dream about some of the stuff on here - Nothing oddball next, a hurricane & bf109 (very new Airfix & very very old Airfix) - however after that will be a TU-2S & a LaGG-3 (didn't even know they existed until someone (ie the GF) brought me them from Poland. S

Another humble effort if anyone wants a look - Trying to do more oddball things - gift all the way from Poland - already done a PZL 11 - now a PZL 7a (122 Fighter Squadron, 2nd Air Regiment Polish Air Force, Krakow-Balice, 1935 - I think Balice is the current civilian Airport in Krakow today) Not a bad kit compared with the PZL11 Hand painted with humbrol enamels - Quickshine (Klear Substitute) & Matt Coat (which despite my best efforts didn't go very matt!!!!! (Blue decal didn't behave when it set - it was printed on a different sheet and didn't behave like the others) Not sure if it should have antenae wire like the PZL11 - maybe some clever person in the know could let me know I am running out of PZL's - done 7,11,23,37 - anyone know of any others with Polish markings in 1/72 Here you go if you want a look - As usual in awe of other stuff on here Ipad Limitation for the photos - sorry

Thanks for the info - I got given a whole host of models as presents - the Roden being one of them - Bi-Planes would not normally be my choice as I have all sorts of problems setting the top set of wings. The Roden is not up next - but as usual the depth of knowledge on here is staggering (if only the internet had existed 35 years ago!!!! I might not have stopped) - Again thanks for the info - I'm away to put the decals on a PZL 7 (photos will be posted tomorrow or the day after). -

Very nice - hope it fits better than the old Airfix one - I really like the oddball planes like this - but the old Airfix Kit is way beyond me - nice job - I admire your patience with the cockpit - not to mention the "greenhouse" painting!!!!- 12 replies

Relaxation builds continue - Only do this for relaxation - here is the latest - hand painted - Humbrol Enamels - rigging (and control wires which seemed like a good idea at the time) from stretched runner / sprue (whatever you are supposed to call them) - I know they are not supposed to be attached to the upper wing support - but I think I got the guns in wrong place - thus couldn't attach them to the fuselage - I don't add them for accuracy - only becasue I think they make the model look better. The model is seriously tiny - only 80mm in length!!!!! Had to remake the under tail supports - broke the existing ones trying to snip them off. Some one gave me a Rodden Fokker D.VII - can anyone tell me anything about that kit? (not sure whether it may be a little beyond my skill - or lack of it) If anyone wants a look - here you go (as usual - hats off to some of the stuff that is posted on here - I can only dream!!!!!) :- Thanks for looking - image quality is controlled by the iPad - sorry

Nice - can I ask what the other types (and model kits) in your picture are - I assume I see a Pair of PZL 7 or 11s - I have built a PZL 11, 23 and 37 - I am currently doing a PZL 11 and would like to add other Polish types if possible.
