    DIY Decals

Like the idea of getting the colour from the humbrol chart - good shout!
  3. Wee decal update - the geometric pattern you posted - is as far as I can tell on the decal sheet for (wait for it) the Mistercraft Boxing of PZL P-7 "Transylvanian Fighter - I know this because I built one and used the decal sadly. The decal is part if the PZL P7-a 122 Fighter Squadron, 2nd Air Regiment - Polish Air Force, Krakow Balice, 1935 (Balice FYI is the current Airport at Krakow which is also still an Aitforce base - interesting aircraft sitting on the apron as you approach the domestic terminal) As for PZL 11 Decals I have the leftovers from Techmod sheet 72120 PZL P-11c - but that sheet does not have your geometric pattern - I can scan what I have left if you are interested - let me know.

    DIY Decals

I am about to delve into the murky world of printing inject decals - I tip I picked up from elsewhere was for instance if you are printing on white paper - print the outside of the decal roughly the colour the portion of the model onto which it will be placed - then when you trim it - you won't get any white portion of the decal showing and should blend in better.
  5. I shall have a search thru' my decal mountain - I have done various PZL 7 & 11's (Master/Mistercraft / Plastyk & Heller) - I am working right now (or supposed to be) - I have certainly done a PZL of some sort with the white "geometric" pattern in your photo above! Will report back later. For the record I didn't do well with the PZL37 Los (the canopy did not go well) Plus I have the leftovers of a Techmod sheet for a PZL11
  6. Nice builds - i have built all of the models in your WIP over the last couple of years (not to your standard though) - The MisterCraft ones can be horrible - interestingly I have purchased some of them while visiting Krakow (Phantom Model Shop) for sub £2!!!!!! The girl in the shop thought I was nuts when she had all these nice IBG & ArmaHobby kits on the shelves!!!! The Heller Karas builds into a fantastic kit for its age - I have an IBG Karas in the pile to do - will be interesting to see how it compares.
  7. Awesome job - built one of the Arma Hobby Hurricanes recently - they are absolultey fantastic kits! Cant wait for their Mustang that is being produced.
  8. JWM - sorry for the direct approach - didn't want the thread to wander - do you know if there are any ways to find out Sqadron Codes and serial numbers for other planes that Stanislaw Litak flew - I understand he might have flown Hurricanes & maybe spitfires? You seem knowledgeable on the topic.

      JWM

      Hi,

Here is his history - but I think you know it, though it is in Polish

      https://www.polishairforce.pl/litak.html

It is said that he was flying Tiger Moth, Battle, likely Lysender - during training.s Before WW2 in Poland he had accident on PWS 26. In Squadron 316 prior to Mustang Mk III he flew Spitfires Mk V and IX.

      here

      http://polishsquadronsremembered.com/316/42/316_June1942.html

is his photo on front of Sptfire Vb AR 428, J is visible so likely SZ-J.  From other photos it is visible that they were Vb LF, but having serial I am sure that people can confirm it (or denied).

Here are (in Czech) next infos, he is on one photo among other pilots

      Here is mentioned

      and here also

Here are few more photos about Sq. 316

That is what I was able to find so far.

      Savenosouls

Thank you - I might try and build the Vb - I did not know the mark of the Spitfire - thank you

  9. I stand corrected - however on the computer my starting point is "font".
  10. I have been to see them in both locations! Always make a point of going to visit when I am on a trip there from the Uk - however they always look at me a bit weird when I buy MasterCraft (yes the nasty ones) Models - at current exchange rates cica £1-£2!!!!
  11. I have other Techmod decals for Spitfires (bought in the Phantom Model Shop in Krakow!!!) - but the Xtradecal ones will do just fine - now I am not worried about the font!!! Thank you all for your assistance.
  12. I have all the info - was just curious about the font - the Revel Kit Mustang III kit has SZ H and correct squadron badge - will cut off the SZ H (as they are intergral with the roundal) and use the xtra decals to for the SZ-U and the serials I have too - The pilot was actually my other half's great uncle!!!! The Revell kit has mission / kill decals - I assume they relate to the pilot so should not be left off?
  13. Cheers will download and have a look - much apreciated
  14. Cheers - the Revell Mustang is almost correct - Squadron - 316 I think - Just need to butcher the letters & serial
  15. I understand your methodology - I used to use Coreldraw, but now have a MAC - Inkscape (free) is very familiar in feel and use as Coreldraw. When I take things further I will take on board your suggestion (I have access to AUtocad & Microstation also via the work PC) - Note Inkscape is available free for the PC & MAC - I checked the help - it seem it is possible to convert the text to curves
  16. A vertitable can of worms it seems - I noticed variations on the Xtradecal / Airfix & Revell Sheets - for Hurricanes. Spitfires and Mustangs - all came about trying to build a particular 1/72 Mustang of a Polish Pilot Called Stanilaw Litak (crashed and killed in Holland) - I have the squadron code of the Mustang and the serial number of his plane - as there seems no right or wrong answer - I will build the Revel Mustang and cut off the Revel Codes and substitute the Xtradcal ones, along with the correct serial number. For the record if anyone is interested:- https://www.tracesofwar.com/persons/76166/Litak-Stanislaw-Jan.htm Thank you all for your input and sorry for stirring the veritable hornets nest!
  17. Does anyone have any idea of an approximate font that could be used for RAF Squadron codes - I have an Xtradecal sheet of various sizes - scanned in the sheet and imported to Inkscape (free vector graphics programme for PC or Mac) to try and match the font - Arial is close but the B isn't quite right - I realise this may not be an exact science - but if anyone has any pointers I would be grateful. Ta in advance for any help
  18. Nice Build - built 2 a few years ago on my return to modeling - for their age the kits build well - I have a modern 1/72 IBG kit of the Karas to build - will be interesting to see how it compares when I build it. I am loyal to Humrol enamels - but had so many problems with their Gloss & Matt Coats - for gloss I now use Quickshine Floor Polish ( From Lakeland here in the UK) this also sucks decals down like you cannot imagine - for Matt & Satin I use Windsor & Netwon.
  19. I built the Heller version - for old kits they do scrub up well! Well done (hope your decals behaved better than mine)
  20. Black it is then - thanks for your assistance.
  21. Any of you markings gurus - can you tell me what type of swastika an ME262 should have on the tail - all black? black with white, black on a white circle? I am doing a Heller ME262 Nightfighter along with it's modern Airfix equivalent, and I have no idea? (and a large Xtradecal sheet of swastikas?) Thanks in advance (I appreciate that the markings are banned in some European Counties!)
  22. Looks good - I have the Heller Kit in the "to do" pile - fortunately I have some nice new decals to use with it 🙂
  23. A US option for you:- https://www.hollowayhouse.net/product/quick-shine-multi-surface-floor-finish/ Works a treat - don't be worried about it's miky appearance!
  24. Guys another option is as follows:- https://www.hollowayhouse.net/product/quick-shine-multi-surface-floor-finish/ It is made in the USA - so presumably available there - in the UK you can get it from Lakeland - shiner than a very shiny thing and suck decals down no end!
