That looks great George, well done, and the icing on the cake was those little fiddly bits that sets of the model nicely,Lol!
Best wishes to you and her indoors, lets hope for a speedy recovery after her op.You will know when she's better, the nagging starts again lol!

A couple of years to retirement, should have plenty of time then, hopefully,if I'm not already gaga, they'll help on the way to complete madness.Another problem is that Trumpy have produced a 1/700th Dreadnought, and I'm feeling tempted, its such an iconic ship I just can't help myself!
Had a word with the Pontos guy at Telford asking about the detail set for the Trumpy kit and he just said that its on the drawing board still. They are beautiful sets, expensive yes,but the detail is astonishing.Just put on the wood deck, nice but fiddly IMO,think I'll paint on the others,we'll see.

Know where you're coming from Beardie Lol!I suppose they do add a little more finer detail, can be painted in a different colour off the model and stuck on after the main paint scheme is applied, especially in the case of the inspection covers that were usually left in the grey green colour!

Lol!Sorry Keefr22,have 3 (I must be bloody mad!) Dreadnoughts to tackle, just started the Zvezda kit with a Pontos detail set which includes the aerial spreaders and a bucket load of other etch
It will be interesting to see who takes on the WEM line when everything settles down,it would be a shame if they disappeared.A Russian company,North Star also produce Dreadnought etch sets.

Very nice Ingo, well done. And a great tip on doing the aerial spreaders,I'd been wondering how to tackle those little suckers, and your method has provided a solution.Did you space the starfish by eye or use some form of template?
Thanks for your effort on getting WEM to bring them out, fortunately I ordered 2 sets before their unfortunate demise.

Boy,that Duellist set would be a nice Christmas prezzy, but I don't think her indoors would cough up that much.Got a friend who wants 4 Felixstowes, think he'd better start doing some overtime!

Hi George,
what a bloody nightmare those underside decals look.Have you tried slicing through the 'balloned' decals with a very sharp(new) knife blade, then applying more setting solution to the area.Any cracked or flaked areas can be touched up with paint once decal has settled down and dried, but, like you have pointed out,the silver will be a bummer to match.Possibly not so noticeable as its on the underside and you'll have weapons on the pylons that will help disguise/hide offending areas.

Hi Beardieweirdie,
interesting jig there, like the idea of placing it vertically so that you can see the struts and their locations. Was thinking that perhaps instead of some form of grub screw to push the trailing edge of the top wing into position,(I would think that would put undue pressure on other parts, maybe leading to fracture or distortion of other parts!),you could incorporate a concave or shaped piece that would allow equal loads over the profile of the top wing, maybe even line it with a soft material that would minimise damage to any paint/decals.
Being of the older generation,we used to have those type of boxes at school to keep our pencils/ruler/rubbers(and for those across the pond,a rubber was something that was used to erase pencil marks!),and for larger scale models, you could use and adapt a wine box that fine wines are sold in.Good luck with it,and looking forward to your progress on this.

Holy anime Batman, that is speedy work George.Yep,the filling and sanding areas look just like the ones I have dealt with too.I have built the Taurus missiles and found them OK,just filed down the locating lugs a bit on the fins and they fit and held well.Love the blue colour.

Handley Page 0/400,Morane Saulnier L,Avro 504,Curtiss Jenny,Albatros B types,CA 3,all in 48th/32nd.
Now if Shane started scratch building those,OK we'd have to wait a couple of years, but the mainstream manufacturers would then bring them out.

No probs George, and you have to fit the exhausts assembly before fitting the wings,it won't fit after the wing is on,ask me how I know lol!

For stronger struts, you could try Plastruct plastic coated wire which can be cut to length and then filed to shape.I think it was Creative models I got mine from.

Must agree about those characters, like clowns,a bit creepy.I'm attempting to build the Revell single seater and agree with you that there is a lot of flash present. The intake splitter plate needed building up with card as there was a large gap where it meets the trunking. The engine exhaust tubes and cans were an extremely tight fit and I sanded them down a bit which eased the problem.I'm glad I followed the wing construction sequence as the bottom and upper wing pieces needed a lot of fettling to get them to sit correctly, and there were still biggish gaps all round.I'm going to be building mine as a What If future Luftwaffe example.I also found that I was a bit heavy handed with the glue(used Revells own brand) on the tail fin area, despite letting the assembly set overnight, the fin became a bit 'floppy' and bendable, everytime it was under any pressure it would distort, took about 3 days to fully cure,so be sparing there.Just waiting for all the filler to set before rubbing it down, have fun and looking forward to your build..

Eduard do a set of RFC personnel and Preiser do some Luftwaffe sets that include groundcrew that are dressed in coveralls that could be adapted.

Good news from White Ensign, they have released a set of etched 8 point star spreaders in 1/350th.There are 50 spreaders and they have holes at each point to allow your chosen aerial material to be threaded through.Item number is 35178 priced at £3.25 per set.

Approx 15.20,heard a loud engine roar, looked up to see a Spitfire and Hurricane flying about 300 ft over towards our house in Burbage,nr Hinckley,Leics. Fantastic sight.

Bit late I know, but the offset rod to the front of the cockpit is the control rod for the ailerons. This little titbit of info was in a 2 part article of Scale Models International from 1997 on correcting the errors and detailing the Matchbox Gladiator.Apologies if this has been noted elsewhere!

Have just looked at the Pontos set and that looks like a small groove at the end of the star arm,and the North Star set appears to have small holes for the aerial wires.Incidentally,NS are offering their etch set for 37 euro's.I don't think there are any spreader sets available separately except for the WEM sheet!

Thanks for the info on the WEM and Pontos sets, and I've found another set is available from North Star. What a dilemma, which one to choose?I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not too sure.
The AOTS book arrived yesterday, and I also bought the Kagero book, boy, what detail, and the Kagero book includes a pull out 1/350 plan, amazing value. And OMG I see that the aerial spreaders were an 8 pointed star shape, which the Pontos and NS sets include.Do I want to go down the insanity route as I'd need a little bit of a push(not much of a push mind you!) to attempt something that fragile and small!

Yeah, its the Walfisch, pictures up of the box top and a built up example on LSP.Who's for another dog fight double duellist set?
