  1. Hi Bob,if you go onto Eduards web site and look at their Albatros (OEF) 253 instructions,it should give you some details. The kit is 48th scale and the etched belts/harness are pre coloured but that shouldn't really be a problem. All the best with it.

  2. Went to this show, travelled from Lutterworth on a Woods Coaches trip, with 2 coaches full of aviation enthusiasts. We got stuck in the traffic near Newbury, and the other coach managed to turn across the dual carriageway and the driver shouted to our driver to follow him.Unfortunately we got stuck on the central reservation gravel,so we all piled off to push the coach free.At that moment a police helo landed in the field next to us,and the commisionar jumped out and ordered us to push the coach back,Sat for ages to get into show, but what a show, and thanks for posting.

  3. I read somewhere that exhaust pipe colours were not as badly dis-coloured as say WW2 exhaust pipes, being due to the fact that WW1 engines never ran at the same high temperatures. If this is the case, what colours would the exhaust system be on a WW1 aircraft, and what model paints would people recommend.

    TIA.......Dave.

  4. Recently picked up the Airfix 48th scale rendering of the Blenheim Mk1F,a great little kit.I understand that the rear turret, though not incorrect in that it is fully raised, would be in the lowered position when parked on the ground.Has anyone attempted to lower the turret on their model, and if so,how did they accomplish it.

Secondly, what would be the colours of the cowling fronts, are they a bronze or burnt metal colour?

    TIA...…...Dave.

  5. My bad on the cabane struts, apparently the interplane struts are a tad too long and need trimming back. Also the cockpit tub location is a bit vague and needs care in assembly. When joining the fuselage halves, there is a slight gap that needs filling at the point of the rear cockpit bulkhead.Engine panels are fine and incorporate the gaps found on the real thing.Again I must state that the build review in Airfix mag is of a pre-production issue, the production run may be slightly different.

The article in the Airfix magazine is also supplemented by 2 other articles that covers briefly the career of the Tiger Moth, and one article is more of a photo coverage that includes close up detail shots of the real thing.

At approx. £18.00 I think it will be a real winner for Airfix, and there is a myriad of schemes to choose from.

  6. Just purchased the Airfix mag with the article on the build review of the new 1/48th Tiger Moth. From the photo's in the magazine,it all looks fine, definetly not the punched in the face look from the picture from the toy fair. There is a jig provided in the kit to produce the anti-spin strakes on the tail, and apparently no mention is made of this in the destructions, but it is a pre release shot, which didn't include any transfers(decals!),so it may be in the production run.The only other thing IMHO is the method of attaching the mainplane struts, aka with a joining piece and a corresponding slot on the underside of the top wing. Also the cabane struts may be a tad too long and need trimming, but again this was a review done on the pre-production run of the kit, this may be corrected on the production runs.

  7. Cat flaps can be a problem. In our old house we had one fitted, but it wasn't in for long.We had 2 cats at that time, and if it wasn't the prey(alive/dead) that had been brought in,it was the un-invited feline friends that were a problem.Went down one morning and there was four strange cats sitting on the kitchen table.

Also bed space is at a premium at the moment,I usually wake up balancing on 5 inches at the edge of the bed ,while the mistress and SWMBO hog the remainder of the bed, both snoring contently.

  8. Oh,it doesn't have to be winter in our household! Our mistress has developed a mild arthiritic condition whereas she cannot now get onto the bed,she is ok for the sofa, but the size of the mattress is too much. So,usually about 0300 hrs,she gets off the bed, goes downstairs for something to eat and a toilet tray episode. Then she will come back upstairs and create until she is lifted back onto the bed.Bless her!

  9. When I worked in the NHS,we had, from a local parish,a vicar admitted who had a very serious drink problem. It had been tolerated for some time, even his philandering with congregational members of the opposite sex, until the day day came when he had to provide a service for the funeral of one of his parisheners. He had over imbibed of the wine, had started to perform the service, then slid into the open grave onto the top of the coffin. He received about a months treatment at our local institute, and was then passed onto a drinks dependency unit.

  10. On straight pieces of railway track, overhead wires for a pantograph, the overhead wires zig zag above the track to spread the wear on the pantograph equally and increase its durability. The contact between the pantograph and wire is maintained and lubricated by graphite contact carbons.

  11. The Burbage Spitfire,of 74 Sqdn, was lost 27th June 1941 nr Adinkerke,Belgium. The pilot was Sqdn Leader John Colin Mungo Park DFC + Bar,12 confirmed victories to his credit.

Believed to have been shot down by pilots Major Rolf Pingel and Major Walter Balthasar flying Bf-109's of 1/JG26 and JG2.

I believe there was a total of 13 Spitfires raised in the county of Leicestershire.
