    Grumping into the 20s

I usually ask for the winning lottery numbers! That stumps them,or ask for my money back on a lottery ticket that has not won anything.

    Grumping into the 20s

Just been watching the Vera Lynn funeral and tribute on one of the news channels. The film showed 2 aircraft on a flypast.SWMBO commented that somebody would criticise the colours they were in,when the commentator stated that 'A Spitfire and Hurricane were performing the flypast'.The wife was incredulous, the aircraft were 2 Spitfires. Is the commentators remarks an indication of the education/social system in this country at present?

    Cataract op?

I had both cataracts removed 3 years ago.The procedure was carried out with lasers, absolutely painless and a very quick op.The left eye was operated on on the Monday, and the other the following day.By Wednesday I was reading stuff that would have not been possible prior to my op.I had to apply drops for about a fortnight after, and wear these eye protector coverings at night,SWMBO said I looked like something from a sci-fi 'B' movie with them on lol,its to stop you rubbing your eyes in your sleep.Colours were extremely intense after too,who needs recreational drugs lol,but this soon settles down.I regret not having had the op done years ago when my eyesight had started to go downhill,I wore varifocals for many years. All the best...........Dave.
  5. What about Slaithwaite in Yorkshire.First time I ever went there and was trying to get direction(pre satnav),locals would say where, until somebody cottoned on to where I wanted to go.Slawick,go figure. Great build, eagerly awaiting the finish. Dave.

    Grumping into the 20s

Used to take a book with me when wifey goes shopping. Now find plenty to keep me entertained as punters try to enter, park and leave the supermarket car park. Dave.
  7. A couple of years ago I had cataract replacement performed. Our brown sheds definitely were purple after the op,well for a couple of days anyway. Dave
  8. Hi Bob,also have a look on the Hyperscale site,Bruce Salmon builds the Roden D.III in 32nd scale. He shows the frame attachment points in his build.Sorry can't provide link for some technodinosaur reason lol! Dave.
  9. Hi Bob,if you go onto Eduards web site and look at their Albatros (OEF) 253 instructions,it should give you some details. The kit is 48th scale and the etched belts/harness are pre coloured but that shouldn't really be a problem. All the best with it. Dave.

    Possible HMRC scam!

Hi all, just had an email purporting to be from HMRC regarding the award of a £3650 grant.I have never applied for a grant being retired. It is aimed at reservists and former service personnel.Have emailed HMRC to confirm either genuine or scam,IMHO its the latter, even though the email looks good, but am not expecting an immediate response due to bank holiday.Pleas be aware out there!Stay safe all. Regards...........Dave.
  11. Went to this show, travelled from Lutterworth on a Woods Coaches trip, with 2 coaches full of aviation enthusiasts. We got stuck in the traffic near Newbury, and the other coach managed to turn across the dual carriageway and the driver shouted to our driver to follow him.Unfortunately we got stuck on the central reservation gravel,so we all piled off to push the coach free.At that moment a police helo landed in the field next to us,and the commisionar jumped out and ordered us to push the coach back,Sat for ages to get into show, but what a show, and thanks for posting. Dave.
  12. I wonder if he did string those hammocks between the struts?Lovely shots of the old bird, thanks for posting. Dave

    Exhaust pipe colour?

I read somewhere that exhaust pipe colours were not as badly dis-coloured as say WW2 exhaust pipes, being due to the fact that WW1 engines never ran at the same high temperatures. If this is the case, what colours would the exhaust system be on a WW1 aircraft, and what model paints would people recommend. TIA.......Dave.

    D'oh moments

In the early 80's I was working nights at a hospital. After midnight it became very quiet,so I thought I would check my cars firing sequence as it had been misfiring.Popped the bonnet(hood for those of a different persuasion!),got out the plug socket and connected to spark plug, with engine running!!!Fortunately a patient who was outside the ward who was having a cigarette saw me juddering to the cars firing sequence and knocked me over to break the connection. No damage done to myself or car,but what a muppet!Lol.

    Grumping into the 20s

During this crisis,I have had no spam emails for nearly 2 weeks, then I suddenly have one pertaining to be from Virgin, stating that my bill has not been paid due to processing issues. These scutters have tried this before.Another scam that is doing the rounds is that someone rings you up purporting to be the police, and that you have been spotted out on an unnecessary journey and that you are liable for a fine, that you can pay over the phone with your credit card details.

A few years back, there was a certain big money lottery winner from Leicester,in fact it was his girl friends ticket that had the winning numbers, they had broken up,and he got back with her when he found out about the win!But he had an outstanding court appearance for stealing motor vehicles,he attended court and was sentenced to a custodial sentence, not sure how long. After being released,he and 3 of his buddies went for a meal to a locally well known resturant in Market Bosworth. The place was very busy, and he was informed thus, and asked if he would like a round of drinks, and a table would be available in approx 30 mins. This wan't agreeable to the scroat, and he began to create a scene at the bar, demanding a table immediatly, the staff trying to placate him and further explaining the situation.By this time all the diners had stopped what they were doing to witness the proceedings,at which point the scroat shouted out,'Don't you know who I am?',and one of the bar staff retorted,'Aren't you the car thief from Leicester?'The applause was deafening apparently, and none of the staff had to buy a drink for themselves for weeks afterwards.

Went shopping in our local Morrisons yesterday, never seen anything like it at all, shelves empty,no loo roll.Talking to the checkout girl, she said a friend needed a new freezer, but was told that she would be lucky to get one as people who had stockpiled food were buying the freezers up to freeze their hoard.
  19. Sad that I liked that Ed,but it was music played by ear...……..(I'll get me coat!)
  20. Thanks for posting all your photo's of the Wyton Canberras.I used to drive to this base, and many others in the 80's and 90's,delivering to the DOE stores for a flooring company. Have many memories of seeing these aircraft at their bases and in the air around East Anglia,a beautiful sight never to be seen again mores the pity. Dave.
  21. Thanks for the replies guys. Have just been on the Airfix home page, and noticed when they released the 72nd version, they included the lowered and raised turret options, strange they didn't for the 48th kit. Dave.
  22. Recently picked up the Airfix 48th scale rendering of the Blenheim Mk1F,a great little kit.I understand that the rear turret, though not incorrect in that it is fully raised, would be in the lowered position when parked on the ground.Has anyone attempted to lower the turret on their model, and if so,how did they accomplish it. Secondly, what would be the colours of the cowling fronts, are they a bronze or burnt metal colour? TIA...…...Dave.
  23. Just been to All Saints church in Leicester to view the Van Gough Immersion experience, brill. Not an artist that would rank in my top 10,but this was a really interesting and eye opening show. The immersion is something else, and then you have the option of doing a Virtual Reality tour, the first time I have experienced VR,blew my mind, all it really needed was a couple of tracks from Pink Floyd and I would have been gone man,who needs recreational drugs? Dave.
  24. My bad on the cabane struts, apparently the interplane struts are a tad too long and need trimming back. Also the cockpit tub location is a bit vague and needs care in assembly. When joining the fuselage halves, there is a slight gap that needs filling at the point of the rear cockpit bulkhead.Engine panels are fine and incorporate the gaps found on the real thing.Again I must state that the build review in Airfix mag is of a pre-production issue, the production run may be slightly different. The article in the Airfix magazine is also supplemented by 2 other articles that covers briefly the career of the Tiger Moth, and one article is more of a photo coverage that includes close up detail shots of the real thing. At approx. £18.00 I think it will be a real winner for Airfix, and there is a myriad of schemes to choose from. Dave.
  25. Just purchased the Airfix mag with the article on the build review of the new 1/48th Tiger Moth. From the photo's in the magazine,it all looks fine, definetly not the punched in the face look from the picture from the toy fair. There is a jig provided in the kit to produce the anti-spin strakes on the tail, and apparently no mention is made of this in the destructions, but it is a pre release shot, which didn't include any transfers(decals!),so it may be in the production run.The only other thing IMHO is the method of attaching the mainplane struts, aka with a joining piece and a corresponding slot on the underside of the top wing. Also the cabane struts may be a tad too long and need trimming, but again this was a review done on the pre-production run of the kit, this may be corrected on the production runs. Dave.
