  1. Simply amazing stuff. May I ask what decals you used? Kenneth
  2. Thanks A LOT mates, you have been most helpful! Superb pictures and a very good point about the green color. Thanks again! Kenneth
  3. Hi, I'm planning to build the P-47D Razorback coded UN-L of 63rd FS / 56th FG ("Belle of Belmont"). All the profiles I have seen suggests that the D-day stripes were painted over with a darker olive drab than the rest of the aircraft, but I have not been able to find any real pictures supporting this. Can anyone direct me to a photo showing the side and/or topside of the wings of this aircraft? Kenneth
  4. I seem to have found a solution that works for me, at least my initial tests are very good so far. The surface was a piece of scrap plastic primed with Mr.Surfacer 1200, buffed with a 3600 grid cloth. I mixed 1/3 distilled water, 1/3 Future/Klear (actually Sterling Gulvpolish) and 1/3 Xtracrylix paint from the jar. This mix gave a very smooth surface that did not peel when unmasked. I tried masking it with fresh Tamiya tape and a spare Montex mask, with 1 hour drying time between layers, and had no problems at all. I also did not notice any beading, and tip-dry was acceptable. Anyone tried something like that? Regards Kenneth
  5. Thanks a lot for your suggestions, guys. I might try a different brand of paint if the problem persists. I just believed - until today - that Xtracrylix adhesion where much better than the Vallejo ModelAir I used to use. You got me Mike - this foreign language is sometimes difficult I would like to have a carrier as my hobby room thought Regards
  6. Hi, I'm currently having a serious - and I mean very serious - problem with paint peeling off while removing masking tape. I have done about 30 models in my career (edit: not carrier), and never experienced something like this. Here is the procedure I have used this time: Plastic lightly sanded, then washed with dish soap. From this time, the model was only touched with rubber gloves. Then primed with Mr.Surfacer decanted into an airbrush. After 48 hours the primer was lightly polished with a 4000 grit polishing cloth (nice smooth surface). Then shot a few layers of Xtracrylix Medium Sea Grey, which came down very smooth, almost glossy some places. Left it to dry at least 48 hours. Placed normal Tamiya masking tape, then removed it again. Voila - most of the Xtracrylix paint under the tape came off. The primer was still perfect on the model though. My own guess is that the primer became too smooth, so the Xtracrylix could not get a grip. I have done this before though, without problems. Or maybe the rubber gloves (hospital type) left some invisible residue on the primer. It's the first time I use these gloves. Any ideas? Regards Kenneth
  7. Looks great so far! I will be following this one. Kenneth
  8. Fantastic paintwork! I have saved your photos for later reference - hope you don't mind! Kenneth
  9. Fantastic job, a real inspiration! Kenneth
  10. Amazing work. I will save this thread for future refence. I can't wait to see it with the aircraft! Kenneth
  11. Hmm, according to the instructions, A is a D-25NA, B is a D-10-NA and C is a D-5NA, so none of the above! I don't know which one comes closest though. Further investigation is needed... Kenneth
  12. Thank you very much for the information, all of you. It seems that I should go for one of Terrys suggestions instead. By the way, it's not a specific pilot I'm after, just the desert scheme and the shark mouth. And since I have a few fine pictures of GA-V I thought it was obvious - until now... Cheers Kenneth
  13. Hi, I'm planning to build a Curtiss P-40E Kittyhawk mk I, more specifically the AK578 GA-V from 112 sqn RAF, North Africa. I would like to use the Hasegawa P-40E Warhawk, since I have this one in the stash. I know that the pitot tube was different, the correct L-shaped is in the box. The harness should be british Sutton, easy to get a resin seat with the right harness. The wing guns - did it have 4 or 6? (impossible to see on my reference photos). Other things I have missed? Cheers Kenneth
  14. Holy cow, thank you very much for that explanation! It looks superb, I'll have to try this some time... Kenneth P.S. Your explanation is saved for future reference!
  15. Amazing job, as others said. Forgive my igorance - I have never tried a foil job! Do you cut pieces to fit each panel or groups of panels before glueing, or how do you approach? Kenneth
  16. Great build and paintwork I love this scheme - have build it myself in 48-scale Kenneth
  17. I like the weathered look very much. Very cool P-47! Kenneth
  18. Fantastic model as always! How did you do that very convincing weathering? Kenneth
  19. Great model! I have a similar subject in my stash for next year - I will use your paintwork as a reference! Kenneth
  20. Fantastic model again. I don't think I have ever seen that paint scheme on a bomber before - I love it! Kenneth
  21. Great model and superb paint job / weathering! I like the attention to detail, fx. that the spinners are a slightly different color than the rest. Kenneth
  22. Great model! I like the extra detail you put into the cockpit. The weathering is also superb! And of course a wonderful choice of paint scheme! Well done. Kenneth
  23. Great model! I have the danish version in my stash. I'm looking forward to build it, especially after having seen yours! Kenneth
  24. Firebird, Belle and Peter: Thank you very much! Firebird: I agree completely. I only did dry-brush it, because I did not want the interior to look too dirty, but next time I will also give it a light wash. Cheers
