  1. Thanks to everyone replying, I have had a wonder down to the airfield and looked at a few of the jets on the flight line, got to be a bit careful in this part of the world they dont like you taking photosand the jails are not very nice so just had peek through binos on the sly. I now have all the info and them arkings I need, the stencils are in btoh English and aradic depending on laction but they are so fine its hard to see them, on 1/72 they would be very pale after I dull down the contrast s they are nicely faded now. I think the QAF is after replacing these things soon, I understand Typhoon was in the frame but to be honest what a waste that would be. I only see four of these jets take off a day for about an hour then home presumably for coffee and prayer. Typhoons would seem silly, but hey they can afford it. Thanks aain, time to get moving, thinking the Revell kit, as they seem much of a muchness and I have not seen the two seater yet to get the code.

  3. Hi Guys, Wondering fi anyone ould help me find a set of Qatar National Markings, they are about 18in diameter, ont have a pic to put in here but like me Im sure you can enslave the power of Google to check out the colours. Im building a MIRAGE 2000 of the Qatar airforce. Incidently while Im about it, could anyone recommend a kit on the 1/72nd scale I have seen the Airfix offering, no thanks, Has anyne buit the Heller kit/ Thanks,
  4. Thanks to all who contributed re: Eagles air wing and apologies for hijacking the Ark's Thread! A wealth of information here to help me out in my quest. Thanks again!!
  5. Why thankyou kind sir, this will do nicely, now my seaking has an identity.
  6. Hi Kes, Interestingly I am doing exactly the same as you but I am doing it for HMS Eagle and doing anything that served on her which is a growing an interesting collection of models . Hwever I am priortising her last airwing. So far I have my Sea Vixen [revell], Buccaneer[ arifix], Scimitar [thanks Xtrakit], and have just started my Sea King. I have built a sea king already, the revell version as 771 NAS I love the Grey Red contrast. But the point is I have the Airfix seaking bought from EBAY owing to 'Procurment budget issues' for this one and it requires loads of mods. If I were you use the Revell version that offers the AEW option. The model while a bit more expensive is fantastic, No real vices. The airfix kit is now an old dog. More accurate in shape etc in some ways but frankly, in my case, a mistake. I have not found an HAS 2 aftermarket set of decals for the dark blue navy sea king and anticipate having to buy several sets to build what I need. I have a list for the tricky white numbers all from hannants: MD 061 for large side fuselage idents aka 26 MD 048 For ROYAL NAVY TITLES. anyone help with an Eagle serial number for serving Seaking? cant make thenm out in the pics I have............ I hope this gets you where you want to go. Finally, I have painted an awful lot of RAF aircraft during my time in the service and re the colour. As initaly the coating was an epoxy it tended to whats called CHALK or go flat quite quickly in high UV exposure like being at sea so the aircraft do tend to look different shades from time to time dependingon how far through life the coating life they are. Acrylics were used by errosion was an issue. In the end Polyurethane coatings were used which offered a better UV resistance. Upto 6 years in total sometimes.
  7. Just while we are on the subject can anyone help me with the Seaking - HC4 commando conversion kit that used to exist and has ow apparently been discontinued. I understand its an Airwaves kit would love to get me 'ands on one but no where to be seen....
  8. My TOP 5 eastern block aircraft of the cold war would have to be: 1. TU 22M3 BACKFIRE 2. MIG 21 F3 3. SU 27 4. MIG 17 5. KA 27 HELIX. All odd choices in thier way but I love the subject, these and in fact all Soviet era aircraft seemed to have great character in thier appearance. Anyone care to chip in?
  9. If I as a brand new member may make my entrance by saying the following would be my list: Jaguar GR-ALL Hawker Hunter F6 Buccaneer S2 Avro Vulcan E E Lighnining. Nothing controversial on there but if I endulged myself a little, and said my TOP TEN, well then I would add; Nimrod Victor Hercules Phantom Chinook
