  1. Hey, nice work so far! The way you've done the cockpit interior is cool! I'm making the same model, I did mine in a rare grey Falklands War scheme though. You can check it out here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...=68569&st=0 Because none of the parts would fit together, it wee weed me off so much that it even had an epic near-death situation! It's almost finished now so soon (hopefully if I get the time) I'll update it. Good luck with yours gunpowder17, you'll need it!
  2. You don't have to rely on aftermarket. You can pimp-out the kit seat yourself! Here's a link to a method that I came up with to pull it off: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...t=0#entry594621
  3. Thanks for the support you guys, I like your sea harriers! I think during the falklands war they were better than than the GR3s because they actually had radars and the pilot had more visibility. Anyway I got some more work done on the airfux project. I'm gonna do one side of the tail with the lightning bolt... ...and the other in the normal scheme I painted each half of the tail individually before gluing them together. After spraying it with a gloss coat, I weathered it with water, some black acrylic paint, and a bit of dish washing liquid. Wiped off the excess with a damp cloth when it was dry. Makes it look a lot more realistic! Started applying the decals Because the grey scheme markings are twice as small as the regular ones, I'm using some left-over decals from the 1/48 harrier GR3 that I used to have. I also finished painting the custom ejection seat, and it looks nice! The project is going faster now that I'm finished with the assembly and painting.
  4. Opened intake doors. Painted it. This thing is so boring! I feel like I'm wasting my time whenever I work on it, and I don't think I have the patience for it anymore. Bin man comes tomorrow.
  5. That's must be why the kit includes a display stand...which didn't work when I tried t!
  6. Progress: I'm trying to rush through this because it's the most boring thing I've ever made but I want to finish it! Ready for paint. Found this awsome color scheme from the 1/48 version which I'm considering, event though I don't have all the right decals. Googled it and only found one picture of it at some airshow.
  7. Thanks! LOL I'll have to remove the dead batteries in the front and replace them with something the same weight before they start leaking to weight it down!
  8. Thanks for the comment! Yeah I wasn't sure if that was right, but the hinges on the kit are at the bottom. I'm not bothered about it!
  9. I'm making an airfix 1/24 harrier GR3 and seen the following weapons layout on another harrier model I like the look of, but it isn't an option in the instructions of mine. Is this a good layout for a falklands war harrier? centerline- free fall bomb inner wing- paired rocket pods outer wing- sidewinders I also an airfix picture of a harrier with 1 drop tank on the center pylon, which I also like the look of.
  10. OK, thank you all for the very detailed advice, I think I'll paint them in green! Probably should of mentioned I'm not a smiling cat so intersetred in every detail that I actually count the rivets because I have way too much free time to spend on an toy made of plastic which is 24X smaller than what I believe it to actually be!
  11. I'm making an Airfix 1/24 Harrier GR3 in RAF scheme. The paint guides for both this and the 1/48 version show only a side view of the gun pods as completely green, while the rest of the aircraft is grey/green camo. I've searched it on google images, but the only pictures of the harriers show them without the guns on display at some museum. Does anyone know if they should be just green or grey and green?
  12. Thanks for the advice., that's pretty much what I'm going to do- fill the gap with glue without gluing the part to the wings.
  13. My uncle is pretty obsessed with the hobby too (well, sort of). He makes racing bikes and dragons though. His awesome modeling attic is one of the things that made me realize just how seriously some people take the hobby! btw that's a nice harrier, bet that took you a while to make!
  14. Made some progress. Front doors wouldn't close properly, so I drew lines where the closed higes go and put in 2 pieces of sprue to push them in as they close. Closing Closed Wings almost done. The wheels and tires are one piece in rubber, so I masked off the tires for the wheel paint before putting them in the bearings. The center part would not fit so I sanded it until it did, but it left a big gap. This what I mean when I said nothing fits together.
  15. Lookin nice, best I've ever seen! Are you goin to use the fuel tanks for the wings too? A stupid problem with this kit is that it only includes decals for 2 of the 3 tanks.
  16. I can remove them, because I didn't glue the hinge thing part down. (should of mentioned that)
  17. Looks nice so far! I made one too, you can see it here. This kit has one problem: not enough weight at the front. For mine I had to put 2 AA batteries where the machine gun should go, and it just holds it down. I put them in using the space behind the cockpit where the hinge thing goes. There was no room anywhere else to put them, so I hope you left the gun out. If not, good luck with the problem!
  18. Thanks Dan, that's what I think of it! I just found 'airfix 1974' engraved under one of the wing parts, so that explains the bad fit. When I said "nutty old men" I was refering to those guys who are obsessed with perfecting everything about this hobby. I've seen them commenting about one detail being wrong in some reviews on this site!
  19. After a month trying to make this harrier, I've decided that this kit is 100% crap. This is why: NONE of the parts fit together without 5-10 minutes of sanding and cutting. The undercarrige doors don't close properly. It doesn't even stand on its own landing gear. I still don't know where to put it when it's finnished. Because of all this I may give up on this project, and also give up on the entire hobby, along with this ran-by-nutty-old-men-website. Thank you airfix!
  20. It's only in spray can, the color code is AS-26 tamiya spray paint is really good if your only planning on airbrushing.
  21. Try Tamiya lght ghst grey. It's more blueish than other lght ghosts and looks the same colour as the german typhoons.
  22. Nice build, what are you going to paint it? When I made this kit I used tamiya sky grey overall and model master RAF medium sea grey for the nose. Looks fine, but a bit creamy. I have a magazine full of RAF typhonn pictures. It seems to be light ghost grey, also it's the same colour as the AMRAAMs, which are definately light ghost grey. I'd try the model master vesion of that colour (which looks more greyish instead of blueish) with RAF mdm sea grey with camo grey for the ASRAAMs!
