  3. Just to add, Eduard themselves also do resin one piece cowlings for their kits and here in the UK are less than half the price of the Baracuda ones.

When you say "to keep replicating the subject" well I don't generally do that neither do most people, but if you are talking about building a model in markings which a lot of other people have done, why let that effect what you want to build? I don't really care how other peoples models are marked on their shelves. Why let other other people's choices stop you from building a historically important aircraft if that's what you want to do? There are plenty of photos out there for aircraft that no markings exist for, normally because of a lack of photos to show the whole aircraft but there is nothing wrong with producing your own markings based on educated guess work. Also there's some markings that have only been done inaccurately, often because more photos and/or info has surfaced about the subject since or due to poor interpretation of photos, so there is always plenty to do if you are producing your own markings.

Looking good, though one small point, which you may have already picked up, the magneto block needs removing from the engine - the unit at the 12 o'clock position on the front case between the Turtleback mags. It should look something like this, where there is a blanking plate over the magneto position. The black unit in front of where the magneto block sits on the early engines is the prop governor.

  9. Yes the E is still available but the N and K are not so easy to come by, but I'm sure Haswgawa will rerelease them soon.

  11. I'm not Russian but as I understand, historical Siberia included the far east region (so not classed as Siberia now days) which is probably why the Siberian Tiger was named so.

  13. Looks pretty nice for 1/72nd scale, I see one in my future. The clear parts look a little thick though.
  14. From what I've seen it looks like the Aires and Quickboost R-2800's are both incorrect for a later P-47D.
  15. To me it looks like Olive drab in that picture as well. Other D-20's from the 19th FS that left the factory in NMF also appear to have this area painted OD as well. They must just had their canopies removed for the painting. This is what you quite often see on a NMF Razorback.
  16. Yes that's what I mean. It was treated as part of the fuselage, so Olive Drab aircraft were painted Olive Drab here, but starting in the D-20 block with aircraft 42-25274, they were coming out of the factory in NMF so this area was also NMF. Bette must have had this area painted when they painted the fuselage, like some of the other 19th FS aircraft. The blue you want is FS 15102, I can't help you with Gunxe or Tamiya as I don't use them, but iI would use Colourcoats ACUS28.
  17. Yes NMF is just quicker than have to type bare metal all the time. Here is what Tamiya give you in the Razorback kit ( top photo ) - the two distributors, part C14 in the kit ( part C15 is incorrect as it was only used on the engines fitted in the P-47M and N ) sit either side of the black magneto block in the middle. On the -59 engine used in the later P-47's they used combined distributors and magneto, commonly referred to as turtleback mags due to there shape. So this also means the magneto block (black in the photo) wasn't fitted. A lot of companies, including after market ones get this wrong and a lot of people incorrectly call the distributors magnetos. The annoying thing is Tamiya only give you turtleback mags in the 1/72 scale Razorback kit! A quick way to get around it, is used the incorrect distributors in the kit and reshape them a little and paint them black and remove the magneto block. The small part in between the turtlebacks is the prop governor, not fitted in the top photo as there were two different types - one for CE props and one for HS props.
  18. I remembered where I got the other picture from, it was stills from this video here Note although the area behind the cockpit should be NMF, it appears in this footage it's painted.
  19. I've a feeling I've got another photo of Bette, but can't find it at the moment. I haven't used any of my Thundercal sheets yet, but they are printed by Cartograph, so yes the quality is very good. This aircraft was delivered in NMF, so the area behind the cockpit should also be NMF. The turtleback mags correct for this aircraft's engines don't come in the kit, Tamiya only supply the earlier distributors - they need to come from else where, the easiest place is from the Tamiya P-47M kit if building it as an P-47M.
  20. I know, but it still seems cazy that they spend more money tooling kits to allow for more versions then don't bring them out.
  21. You would have thought they would be all over popular Japanese subjects but Tamiya never seem that worried about rushing variants out (if ever) - still waiting for an F-16D!
  22. This may have already been mentioned, but with being able to pose the aircaft ready for a cat launch are we getting some flight crew, or will we have to source them elsewhere?
