  1. Dave, It certainly is a most excellent volume, very comprehensive, and in my humble opinion, one of, if not the best references I have read on the FB6. Certainly would have no hesitation recommending it to fellow Mossie builders, it certainly straightened out alot of the anomilies I have found. I can understand and agree with your thoughts on the Engine, particularly as the aircraft is an early issue. The kit one is beginning to look like an early Merlin XX at the moment, I need to do a bit more work at Hendon to iron that one out. It has been interesting to study the manuals, photographs, and actual aircraft detailed, and there still are a few anomillies to resolve. Take the Rudder trim tab and Radiator flap switches as an example. The manual shows the swiches to the right, but all the actual aircraft interiors, I have seen to date, have them on the Left. This however may be a fuction of the different gunsight brackets noted at the same time. It was also interesting to see that some Mossies such as TA122 has no downward ID lamps, but again this may well be down to the date of manufacture and there use at that period of time. I just model by the old saying, measure twice cut once, or in my case, check my references 10 times and model it once!! Like many, I have waited a long time for this Kit and would like to get the best out of it. many thanks for taking the time to help, very much appreciated. Gary
  2. Hi Dave, A big thanks for that. I did get a little confused as the Mossie site does give them all as MK23 or 25, however in the great Aviation Guide for the FB6, the last page shows that they could have used MK21/23 for series 1. I couldn't bottom it out at Sailsbury Hall, but I have another appointment back at Hendon this week so I will ask if I can see the Form 78 for the Airframes concerned. I suppose the issue is now identifying what mark of Merlin is supplied in the Kit? From that I will be able to work out any mods that may be necessary. Gary
  3. Hi Guys, I have a question for both Mosquito and Merlin Experts. I am trying to nail down which mark of Merlin is supplied in the 1/24 kit. I was under the impression Mosquito FB6 used either Merlin MK 23 or 25 engines. However using the radio layout as a guide, the 1/24th Airfix kit seems to depict one of the first 48 or so series 1 aircraft (HJ662-HJ682 & HJ715-HJ743). From a quick bit of research I am of the belief that these early series 1 had either MK 21 or 23 engines. Now when I look at the kit engine, It has the early type water channel (Part G18,27) supplied. (although fittng is missed off the instructions). Having a quick look through some reference material at DoRIS at Hendon, I found this channel was only fitted to early engines with single piece blocks. While at Hendon I looked over the MK23 there, but this has the later water channel fitted for the Two Piece Block and different input plug cable layout. However looking at the Merlin XX engines of the Halifax you get very close to the supplied kit engine. I am hoping that someone will be able to enlighten me on the differenced between the MK XX and MK21, but based on this, does the Kit actually have MK21 Engines suplied? I have included some pictures to help clarify my points (I hope!). Any help or guidance greatfully recieved!!
