  1. Hasegawa F-104 series kits are crisply detailed with sharp lines. Comparison between some resin and kit's plastic parts But in some areas, resin captures superior detail like in the wheel wells. I dont understand logic behind keeping the navigation lights blanked up. Drilling holes in so many of them is time consuming and getting the center right to dill a hole is a pain. On top of that, as if make fun of us, Hasegawa instructions call it 'an additional handicraft' !
  2. The way the aircraft is painted, there is no distinct line partitioning colors. So it seems free hand will be the most likely route to replicate the effect.
  3. I have created a new thread in STGB for F-104. So dont need to move this thread. Thanks Mike.
  4. This is the version I intend to build Some images of the finished cockpit and seat. Seat still needs some photo etched buckles. Hasegawa cockpit isnt bad and I have used the decal provided in the kit to show the details of the cockpit. Details on the finished engine which will show through the ventral opening in the rear of the fuselage. I have used Testors Model Masters metallic shades and also some passes of Gunze Burnt Iron. To capture the full splendor of detail, I have to juggle between three instruction sets. A misstep could be difficult to undo so I m being careful and slow.
  5. No I did not!! How to join the group build?
  6. I have been working on this project for a couple of weeks now. The progress is slow as I want to super detail this model using CMK detail sets. I will be using superb DACO decals for Belgian Air Force. The aircraft I have in mind is one in the retirement scheme with yellow wing tanks in Tiger Meet scheme. I m using Lock On 1 Lockheed F-104G-J Starfighter book as a reference. This book has very good detailed pictures of almost areas covered by CMK sets. First steps to accommodate extensive CMK detail sets is to butcher the fuselage port and starboard halves. Making those cuts is time consuming. While test fitting, I noticed CMK gun bay is a bit short. Some detail work on engine
  7. But my question still remains and may be should be put to Kinetic Models. When they have tanks in the kit which are not even correct for the particular kit, why not add these tanks which are appropriate for all III/V versions?
  8. I wonder why Kinetic does not provide the centreline drop tank in any of their Mirage III boxes. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Argentina-Air-Force/Dassault-Mirage-IIIEA/4174959/L?qsp=eJwtjDEKAjEQRa8iU9ssgsV2bpdCtPACQ/JZg6sJMwMalr27Y7B7vP95K8XyMnzs1ipoJAVLvNOeKgs/lcaVHmjvIsmZzll4xi6E4A8tYlNzm9hwihHVkP7%2BIgnym6Cxx2aPDw6Qa2c6HN2nrHXh3oBxXmjbvvzML%2Bs%3D
  9. One more lesson in the challenge of building the Revell Typhoon. First of all the step that mentions this assembly has the part illustrated in the wrong direction. If you follow the the step, the canopy will stick like an upside down boat jutted out in the air! From what it shows in the instruction, you have to rotate the hinge on which the canopy is resting by 180 degrees. Then you have to confront the challenge of how to fit a part that will be pressed from both ends that does not have locating pins on the ends that will be glued to the fuselage and bottom of canopy!! To execute that, I had drill metal pins in the fuselage and at the bottom of canopy. Only then could the canopy be placed in a position where its barely hanging in there. As I said not only the kit is the challenge but so is deciphering the instructions, even the purportedly correct one downloaded from Revell website.
  10. Knew the decal colors and placement was wrong on ASRAAM but had to use them since no aftermarket decals were available. The kit itself was not a challenge alone. Its instructions were a mess. Decals placement was totally wrong. Although there are many air forces covered in the kit, the decals are very dark. So using the Two Bobs sheet was good choice. The correct instructions can be downloaded from Revell website.
  11. Today I present to you my recently finished Revell Eurofighter Typhoon in 1/48. Revell kit builds into a fantastic scale replica but its not without its challenges. To build this kit, I have used the following detail sets. · AIM-120 from Hasegawa Weapons Set E X48-17 · Eduard EF2000 Single Seater Detail Set 49367 · Two Bobs RAF 90th Anniversary , RAF Coningsby 29th Squadron June 2008. I have used Gunze Acrylics, my preferred brand of colours, to paint the aircraft. I have used Gunze H334 Barley Grey H332 Light Aircraft Grey, H57 Aircraft Grey and also some black and H53 Neutral Gray to do some pre and post shading. Some panels on Eurofighter tend to fade and give the impression of bluish color. For that I have used mix of H67 RLM Light Blue and H418 RLM78 Light Blue. The weathering is slight and I have tried to replicate the weathering effect after viewing several photographs of RAF Typhoons on the internet.
  12. I want to do a Desert Storm RAF Jaguar and want to know if the box has all the right parts to recreate one. If you are building a Desert Storm Jag, what aftermarket sets would you ideally want to have without being extravagant There a lot of aftermarket sets for Jaguar available now. Was just looking at Aires website. http://www.aires.cz/en/catalog/?search=jaguar&searchButton.x=0&searchButton.y=0&searchButton=Search&category=#lightbox[photo]/8/
  13. Another 109 kit in 1/48? I probably agree with this sentiment but no doubt this will be a superb kit. Will beat all competition in fit, finish and engineering. Now looking forward to 109 in 1/32. That will be super exciting.
  14. What is the usual or most common weapons load configuration on an Italian Typhoon?
  15. Has anyone seen a Rafale carrying a mix load of Sagem Hammer and GBU-12 or a Scalp on one of the wing hard points and a cluster of three bombs on the opposite wing hard point? I m thinking of a mix load Rafale but I want to confirm if theres such a configuration in operational deployments.
  16. Excellent pictures for reference. I wish I could build a 2 seat version of Su-25 one day. Looks awesome.
  17. Why dont the Russian Sukhoi planes dont carry drop tanks? They look big and heavy. Do they have enough fuel capacity internally to carry out mission when fully configured with weapons?
  18. But this particular aircraft has a white fairing at the base of the vertical stabilizer. I dont think such tail exist in Kinetic's two seater. Also this a Pakistan Air Force Mirage and its cockpit will be very different from the other jets. PAF jets have gone through ROSE I,II and III re-configurations and accurate detailing might not be possible.
  19. I think with the way Kinetic is covering Mirage versions, IIIB isnt that far. I like the overall profile of IIIB and would love to build one.
  20. After a long time!! As I had been working on different projects. In between I moved homes, Photobucket changed its policies and this project, though not abandoned got lost in events of life! In my new place, although bigger, I dont have dedicated space for my hobby cave. Hence I had been working in a makeshift workshop. On to the project. I m slowly moving toward completing the cockpit of the aircraft. The fuselage halves were glued as loading/passenger compartment was finished in previous posts. The front of the fuselage is now in place. The bottom of the fuselage is also in place now The vent provided in Eduard set, although intricately detailed has some size issues as do almost all Eduard parts. So I will remove it and cut it to size so that it fits properly Italeri kit windows dont sit flush in the window cut outs. The kit also does not represent the rubber sealing around the windows. In order to create the rubber sealing I m looking to wound the thinnest Evergreen plastic rod around the windows. Lets see how it goes.
  21. Russian jets even when new, do not look to have a smooth surface like NATO or American jets. Is it maintenance or is it manufacturing quality or both? I have always found Russian jets to have slight indentations on surface. May its the quality of paint that gives that illusion. I m not sure.
  22. Not forgotten or shelved but I m in the middle of moving to a new home. So all things are packed up. Will be back soon
  23. Are there any Dirty Harry ZD433 Harrier decals availabel in 1/48?
