  4. Hi George, If you can get hold of a copy of the Anatomy of the Ship Queen Mary there is a drawing there showing position and type of armament. Armament consisted of 20mm Oerlikon (photos show these to be single mounts), 3in HA gun, 6in positioned on the stern, 40mm Bofors Mk 1 (twin), and rocket launchers (not sure what). Also fitted were Mk 51 directors and Type 273 radar. Unfortunately I do not have a scanner at the moment so can't do the honours. Other than that, if I can help more, please pm me. Interesting project, look forward to seeing the progress. Regards Chris
  5. i'ii go along with what Andrew said. SUPERB modelling. Chris
  6. As I see it, it's your model made for your enjoyment. Go for it. And the riet counters weren't there 24 hours in every day, do what we did on the model ships, anyone who knew different and questioned the model, we asked them what date they were talking about, and then took a couple of days of. Chris
  7. Hi Windy, Little bit of info. The book "Advanced Ship Modelling" by Brian King has a whole chapter on etching process. (ISBN 1-85486-197-2). I'd love to be able to scan it for you, but sans scanner at the mo, but maybe someone else on here, or the local library can provide a copy. HTH Chris
  8. Watching this with great interest Pete, and having seen your previous builds I'm sure it will be superb. Best Chris
  9. Hi Trevor, There is a book called Royal Navy Trawlers by Gerald Toghill, or could be a series. Part One deals with Admiralty Trawlers, ISBN 0-90777195-5 Published by Maritime Books, Liskeard, Cornwall. Tel 01579 343663 web site: www.navybooks.com Owner Mike Critchley may be able to help in tracking down if there is another volume. The dust jacket of the book states: "In the early days of the 20th Century the simple contact mine was becoming the cheap weapon of choice for many navies. Countering this threar eventually fell to the humble trawler - the similarity between trawling for fish and trawling for mines having been quickly realised. By 1916 however, the Admiralty were facing a famine of commercially available trawlers - so they went into the trawler building business. By the time the Armistice was signed, the RNR Trawler Section, originally a little force of 1200 men and 150 vessels for sweeping UK waters, had expanded to a massive 39,000 men, manning more than 700 vessles at home and abroad. This volume traces the histories of those Admiralty built vessels which started life a humble minesweepers but soon became the jack of all trades in two World Wars and beyond." Hope that helps. Regards Chris PS Just found Volume 2 on the bookshelf behind me. This details with requisitioned trawlers. If you find out what ships he was on, pm me and I'll track down the vessels for you from the books. edited by ChrisD due to not keeping a proper record of books owned
