Thats the plan, really liked the look of it when i saw it in the LMS and then this group build appeared at the same time )

OK guess its time to make a start, been pretty busy last few days so first chance I had. Gunan be making the 1/72 Revell Tigermeet Tornado. First time making a Jet and first time working with resin so should be interesting. Apologies to all the experts out there but I know very little about Tornados so my main aim will be to make it look pretty rather than accuracy. Heres the box shot (crappy ipad camera, hope for better camera for rest of pics)

Hi all, bought myself a Revell Tornado at the LMS the other day when I noticed a really nice decal scheme (eye of the tiger). THne I noticed this group build coming up and thought what a wonderful coincidence. Therefore I'd love to join thsi group build if I may, will be building aforementioned 1/72 REvell kit with some aires stuff, and it will be both my first jet and my first time with resin.

Hasegawa 1/48 Me109E as Flown By Hans Joachim Marseille Buld Thread

Ok thought I had taken more in progress pics than this, but this is all I have Fuselage and wigns stuck together, fit was superb, as seems to be normal with Hasegawa kits, had to do a bit of filling aroudn the cockpit, but otherwise very nice. Masked up and airbrushed with Lifecolor paints, first time using them and I think i'm in love, went on beautifully, didn't dry early and left a lovely smooth finish. Definetly will be using them in future. Camo finished, and nose and fins done, love the contrasts thsi gives on the 109, really sets it apart had issues with the yellow paint, had a bit of a run and needed to set airbrush down for a second to clean it, knowing full well I would knock it over. Tried 5 different spots before I was satisfied it was safe, then knocked it over with 3 seconds, oh well. Thats all I can find atm, will check camera to see if I missed uploading some. Need to finish work on the undercarriage and tidy up a bit then see if I can take some better pics.

Was also at Duxford, definetly a 'lump in the throat' moment when the 16 spits went past in formation

Cockpit finished. Seatbelts were scratched from tape and some spare PE frets i had. Had to make 2 sets as carpet monster ate the first. Next job is fuselage.

OK the kitchen is closing in on completion so finally found time to make a start. Apologies for bad photography, if anyone can provide tips on gettign better resolution on these photos i would really appreciate it. Work starts, as ever with the cockpit, side walls lacked a bit of detail so painted some extra in. Wasn't keen on the foot pedals so made the holes in them, added some wires behind, although they arent at all visible on the photo. Scratch made a rubber boot on the stick as well, as this wasn't included in the kit and all the source photos i can find seem to indicate the presence of one, again not too visible. Have drilled out a hole in the seat for the seatbelts and will scratch the seatbelts as the moulded on ones are hideous (no photo here sorry), next job will be putting the whole 'pit together. So good to finish up tiling and get on with some proper work

The plane I will be building for this group build is the Messerschmit Bf109E as flown by Marseille. Marseille first fought in the Battle of Britain on 24th August, with JG2, and after a long dogfight with a skilled opponent got his first BoB kill on that day. He was famously quoted from a letter to his mother thant same day saying 'Marseille did not take any pleasure in this kill and found it difficult to accept the realities of aerial combat. In a letter to his mother, dated 24 August, he said: Today I shot down my first opponent. It does not sit well with me. I keep thinking how the mother of this young man must feel when she gets the news of her son's death. And I am to blame for this death. I am sad, instead of being happy about the first victory.' Towards the end of the Battle of Britain he was moved to the famous JG52, where he lasted only a few months before being moved to JG 27 for 'insubordination'. The insubordination in question appears to be for livign an overtly 'playboy' lifestyle. The kit I will be using is the 1/48 Hasegawa Bf109E 'Marseille' kit, so i'm kind of cheating as all the required markings are in the kit . Its a nice looking kit, very crisp and no visible flash, it also has a small PE fret. Obligatory box shot. and Sprues Intention is to do it mostly OOB, but will likely add stuff if I feel confident enough, or find something I think I can do. Been looking forward to this for a while now, wish me luck

So tempted to do a 'what if planes were assembled really badly then painted by a 3yr old ADHD child hooked up to an IV of sherbet' should be simple with my skills.

Ok big update, sorry its been a while, but I've been working on it. Plenty pictures to follow, its getting close to being finished. Firstly the undercarriage, freshly primed. The photoetch stuff here was quite useful, although the pieces deep in the wheel wells were difficult to get to stick on. It was quite nice to have the sides of the wells to block it in (not shown here) Next up were the flaps, Again these were done with Eduard photo etch, and they looked like an absolute nightmare. However they went together pretty well. Was a pretty scary moment when i cut through the wings! The cross members were supposed to be bent from pieces of PE, but these were really tricky to do, very thin and needed several bends to make them nearly circular, so I replaced them with appropriate diameter brass rod and I think it looks pretty decent. Sorry for the poor quality of the image was using my phone still, have new camera now tho, so hopefully better pics soon. Built up the wheel wells and Nacelles, the nacelles were an absolute nightmare to fit, not even close and took a lot of filling and sanding and refilling to get them even close (sorry no pics of this stage). Then masked it all up and quick spray. Really quite happy with how the main fuselage has come out, probably the happiest I have been with any painting I have done. The decals went on the fuselage really easily and microsol/set made them look way better than anything i've managed before. The roundels on the wings however were a compeltely different matter, they fell apart as soon as i looked at them. I put the first roundel on and it disintegrated, but fortunately I managed to use the other variants to make new roundels, don't think they turned out too bad although you can just about see where they are. I painted the walkway strips by hand as I've never had any luck with the decals. Onto the gun placements and I must say the Eduard die cut masks are superb and simplified painting these so much. Managed to paint them up with very little over spray. Again the PE parts made a big difference to the guns, especially on the rear gun having the ammo chutes. The quickboost guns are also pretty much a necessity, made a big difference and only cost a few quid. And finally a picture of where I am now, with new camera so hopefully a better quality. This is probably the best it will ever look as I am about to embark on my first attempts at weathering. As a final question, can anyone tell me about wing tip lights, should they be coloured or clear, and if coloured, what colours.

Okay its all done, picture quality not the best, stuck with just a phone, will try get some better pics before the deadline. Cockpit/Interior Chassis and Engine Finished

Was in local Model Shop this afternoon and saw this just sat there winking at me, so decide to get it and join in with this GB (my 1st one!!). Hopefully should be done in time. Box Shot Contents No AM parts, just OOB, but may add some scratchbuilt stuff to engine if I have time

Thanks Started looking at the engines and i'm not too imrpessed with the detail on them. I want to display the model with the 2 engine bays open and am unable to find any decent AM engines for it. So gunna try to improve the engines myself, have had a look round and I belive its the merlin XX engine on the Mk I, but none of the pictures I can find match the engine that seems to be included, anyone got any experience with this?

A full Saturday (and half of Friday night) has resulted in the 2 sides of the fuselage being finished (I think) I went with the colour scheme from the 360 panorma and the build guide that was linked. This is my first try at painting anything other than flat paint on anything, and I'm kind of happy with how it turned out. The Photo etch stuff went out pretty easily, not much bending to do, and no real fiddly bits. Only exception was the fold down table/seat part (B17 on Tamiya instructions. The block that goes underneath seems to preclude it fitting on properly, although the PE instructions say to attach it, but I cant make it fit well at all. May just leave this off (Ye, i'm a cheat) As usual any comments or input greatly appreciated. Cheers Paul

I dont think the kit is boxed in, just has a zig zag shaped spar piece. The Eduard PE kit does however box them in (I think). With the paint scheme, the 360 panoramic i linked earlier has the main cockpit in green and the gunners area at front in black, is this wrong? Is this on both sides?

Finished the first part of the cockpit, slow work as i'm taking my time and trying to do a decent job. Finished the front part of the cockpit, quite happy with how it looks, lost one of the spiked wheels in a cat related incident, but looks ok without it, may try my hand at making another from scratch. Decided against moving the window, scared of making a complete mess this early in my modelling career. Did my first attempt at preshading on the interiors, don't think it turned out too badly Overall its going together quite well, parts have fitted together well and havent needed to alter much. The photo etch is interesting, think I spent as long looking for parts as I have folding them and sticking them, they have a tendency to jump up and fly away at every opportunity. Would welcome comments on my attempts at painting and the weathering I have tried, as well as any other aspect. Apologies for the lameness of the pictures, mobile camera with no zoom isnt the best
