  1. A bit of fun. Saw the egg plane for the F-4EJ and though it would not be too hard to make a F-4M. Well yes and no, hacked off the top of the tail, glued on a bit of scrap plastic. Easy. Then cut the nose down and was left with the gaping hole in the bottom, after Inhad joined up the fuselage. Bum. So with a lot of patience and a bit of luck got it filled and sanded smooth enough to make a FGR.2 egg plane. Seen here with his bigger brother. Enjoy.
  2. It makes a reasonable MkIX but no where near Airfix's current standard of Sptifire kits. As has been said thin the trailing edge of the wing, the humped cowling is for the MkXVI with the Packard Merlin, but other than that enjoy. I also like the fact the decal sheet is nice & glossy colour, so much so that I still have mine for reference although I haven't built this kit for 10 years!
  3. McDonnell Douglas wish theirs looked that good!
  4. To make heavy weathering look that realistic is a true art form.
  5. I think you have made a mistake, surely not 1/144... Very nice, love the scratchbuild vehicles.
  6. I was thinking tankers when I said VC-10, forgot about the transport types; but yes that would be awfully bad form to jump out of an aircraft full of passengers.
  7. Wish I could get a single colour finish to look like that!
  8. Would have needed double size ones to carry the weight of their balls I should imagine.
  9. Crikey! Genuinely surprised. Would have thought they would. Like the everyone or no-one rule.
  10. Thinking about civil avaiation, brought on by reviewing the ship's life saving appliances (LSA) manual, aircraft passengers get a life jacket but no parachute. So, on military aircraft, other than those chaps sat on a Ejector seat, who else gets a parachute? I would have imagined Hercules crews get one each, and the Shackleton crews maybe, but what about VC-10's, or their modern replacments? Just curious really. Thanks in advance. :-D
  11. Xtradecal do a lovely GR.1/1A sheet with ZD740 from 31 sqd on it. And it is green grey wrap around, which is the best Tornado scheme ever!
  12. Been lurking around this build and am mighty impressed with the work and accuracy. It is worth remembering that somewhere under this there is a kit, though given the amount of work you have done I think you could have saved yourself £50. :-D BZ
  13. No worries Brah! ;-)I'm probably going to just whiff the whole Black Mike with tatty grey tanks thing if I was going to do it. Last diorama I built was when I was 13 and invloved a T-34 and some persil for snow. 2 problems using persil for snow... 1) you have to pick the blue and red bits out. 2) it absorbs water, goes clumpy and eventually you look like you have made a T-34 driving through packing wotsits diorama...
  14. Make for an excellent WIf diorama, 1/48 Black Mike, 1/72 111 Phantom in airdefence grey, both with 3 tanks, SkyFlash & Sidewinder, Black Mike's tanks being a low viz grey tatty pair from the pool. Formating on a 1/144 scale Bear, faces at the windows and cameras out... ..for someone with a much better eye for perspective than me! Lol
  15. Thanks, I was just wondering if she had been used as a 'normal aircraft' when not on show. A pic of her formating on a Bear would be awesome!
  16. Hello, Just wondering if Black Mike ever flew operationally in allover gloss black, usual Air Defence load of Sgt Fletcher tanks, 4 Sidewinders, 4 SkyFlash & a gun or central tank? Can't find any pics on line of her in anything other than a clean condition. Thanks.
  17. Ship's Radar displays of the 1960's could be 'burned' by too much direct light, this would make the display progressively less contrasted and harder to see. Perhaps this was part of the reason.
  18. Very nice, lovely scheme too! Waiting to do this in 1/48 when Revell put the next Tornado installment on sale. Reminds me of the 1988 Observers book of Aircraft which was required reading when I was at school!
  19. Nice, looks ready to go toe to toe with a 92squadron Lightning...
