  1. Thanks guys. Isn’t it funny how a little problem like that can put a dampener on a build. I remembered being really hacked off when I broke the pillar, losing all interest in the build thereafter. I wrapped the body in tissue paper & put it back in the kit box with no immediate intention of repairing it, if at all, thus condemning the Impala to a measly existence on the shelf of doom. It glowered & sneered at me from its lonely prison for months on end daring me to return it to the construction fold. Then one day I hit a stone wall with the Plymouth build, seeking a diversion I got the Impala down & with renewed enthusiasm repaired it. Because of a problem with one build I managed to fix, what seemed at the time, an insurmountable problem with another. Weird how things turn out isn’t it.
  2. `Ow do fellas. I’ve done a bit more to the Impala repair. I’ve filled the gap with plastic strip glued in place with 5 minute epoxy & left to cure for two days. The strip is a little oversize to allow for profiling which you can see is the stage I’m at the moment. I removed the masking tape in the second picture because it became scuffed, as the picture demonstrates there's still more work to do. I’ve caught a cold from my Daughter, she’s so generous with her viruses, so now I’m off to dynamite my sinuses.
  3. No. Model Cars Magazine forum. Linky thingy. A very good forum & a nice bunch of guys & gals. Though I've had my wrists slapped a couple of times. Nothing serious, just misunderstood humour.
  4. Neither would I Keef. My head scratching only gave me splinters in my fingers so I popped over the pond & asked the Americans, clever buggers them Yanks.
  5. Chris’s (Stringbag) interest in the Impala rekindled my enthusiasm in getting it fixed up. So with helpful suggestions of car builders on another forum I’ve made a start. Firstly I offered up the door & taped it in place to give some rigidity to the roof. I then glued in the windscreen with PVA & left it to harden off for a couple of days, The idea now is that I can tidy up the broken edges & replace the missing pillar with plastic strip secured to the windscrean with tiny amounts of epoxy. Careful measurement will hopeful reduce the amount of filling & sanding, but I’ll tape up the surrounding area as a precaution. I know just how clumsy I can be. Once the repair is made I can then re-foil the area & nobody will know what a clumsy sod I’ve been, well except you lot…….but you can keep a secret can’t you.
  6. Cheers Chris. I had a little mishap with the Impala a while ago, I broke the offside A pillar when I was foiling. I think I've worked out a fix for it so fingers crossed she'll be back on the bench soon.
  7. Sure Marc. The two wires from the dynamo, the six HT plug wires & the yellow Low tention are all 0.30mm Detail Master products. The long black wire veering off to the right is 0.40 copper craft wire painted black. A useful tip if you're going to use copper craft wire of any gauge it to give it a quick clean with a de-greaser (Isopropyl Alcohol in this case) prior to painting. You'll find the paint adheres better & wont flake off if you subsequently bend it. Finally the red wires from the started are 0.50mmm again Detail Master. I've made a mistake here because there should only be one red wire, the other should be a sliver earth strap. I'll have to correct that I hope that helps you.
  8. I iz vrom Norf Zommerzet Keef, we`d no all them posh wordz over yere
  9. Thank you Gents. A little more progress with some engine detailing. Still got a bit to do but its getting there. Basic painting done Now with a few wirey & tubie bits added. Laters
  10. I'd second that. I've used Phil Flory's washes extensively on cars & trucks & they work very well. Good range of colours too.
  11. Its been a while since I did any modelling, recovering from a hand op is the main reason, but I have a small update for you. Chassis & bits`n`bobs sprayed satin black. It all looks a bit mono-tone so I think I'll weather it all to add some definition & interest. I've painted the white walls free hand with artist acrylic paint. Then weather them with pastel chalks for a well worn & kerbed look. Finaly I mocked it all up to check fit & stance. It doesn't look too bad but I think a little work is needed to get it just right. Thanks for your time.

  19. Another gem of a model Pappy. I always enjoy your builds marvelling in the way you combine subtle details that enhance your builds whatever the subject may be. You are starting to annoy me now (just kidding) Is there no end to your talents?
