  1. Err... I don't know how to put this.... but the belly colour is a light grey with a tinge of blue Two usually given near matches are Tamiya XF-66; Humbrol 175 is another; Xtracolour X133 Neutral Gray... but not light blue.
  2. Very interesting bit of modelling...
  3. Beautiful job! Mmmm... serious memories of watching the original series at the beginning of the `70's Thanks for sharing!
  4. Excellent! I'm following this with great interest - since I have the same kit (plus a few old Rareplanes) with yellowed canopies... I had already bought the plaster of Paris but haven't gotten around to perform the deed
  5. Hi Tom! Wow! Thank you for your answer! Now I have no excuses left not to start the Amodel Mi-6... I'll be making my own decals Hikoki did a few very well researched books (ex. "Shadows" on the Biafra war)... So they cannot be relied on for serious, high grade researched books anymore... That's sad. Thank you for the warning Thank you for the Syrian "no-roundels-on-fuselage" rule! I was going to go with the 'Arab MiG-19 & MiG-21 Units in Combat'... seeing as it was one of yours That means that the Tally-Ho decal sheet I was going to use on a Syrian MiG bis is wrong... BTW - the camo "sand/grey/green" - is it real or just another error? I've noted that in the "...Units in Combat" book the grey is replaced by brown. What gives? YG - I had noticed that his MiG-21 books repeat the content of his earlier books and that the info on export aircraft in general was sketchy (if there at all!) I have almost all of his Aerofax and Red Star books and find them useful. I stopped buying his books sight unseen after buying the Warbird Tech and the "Bible" on the MiG-21. Self-plagiarism is as disappointing for the reader as general plagiarism is for the investigator. About drawings: I have several sets... How about the AiV 095/96 scale drawings. How are they rated? The Aerofax MiG-21 book has an interesting collection of drawings too...
  6. Great model - serious modeling skills AND impeccable taste in subject choice!
  7. Hi Tom! Thank you very much for your careful, informative and well thought answer. I had a feeling about the Mi-6 that it might prove to be as you told me - painted at soviet factory! So now I'll have to find out what kind of "sand" & "spinach" was in use in the Soviet Union at the time... The MiG-21 books I'm using are the Aerofax, the two 4+ and the MiG-21 book from Planes & pilots... the one you recommended Add to that your Arab MiGs books and a lot of (well illustrated) articles from Air International, Air Enthusiast, Le Fana, Aviatsiya i Vremya and a slew of articles and books mainly in Russian. I have a few older books made obsolete by access to better sources after 1992 - as it was rudely and quite uninformatively pointed out to me by some "guru du jour"... There are lots of photos floating around the Internet to check airframe details... Your books have a carefully researched historical content not available anywhere else - so they are THE source for modellers with an interest in Middle Eastern Arab hardware. Is the appendix by Herr MĆ¼ller going to appear in the next "Arab MiGs" book? BTW - dare one ask for your opinion on YG latest Hikoki book on Soviet hardware in the ME? Thank you again for your informative reply, Eduardo Mitchell
  8. Hi Tom! Which book is the 1000 pages "bible"? I'd like to know in order to avoid expending a lot money in a flawed source of info. BTW I love your "Arab Mig" books! Why not do a wider scope book on the rest of the equipment? I'm going to build n Egyptian Mi-6 based on your pictures of its cammo before the June 1967 war... Were these helos painted at the factory with Soviet cammo paints before delivery? In that case - are there any reliable sources about the colours used? TIA Eduardo Mitchell
  9. No. As I said in my post - it's gonna be one of 70 new build machines purchased from Italy in the late '40 and used as advanced trainers by the Argentine Air Force. I've created decals for the machine displayed in the picture I added to my earlier post.
  10. ...as promised! Thereby it's kick-off time for my resin 1/72 FIAT G.46 . Citing my original proposal: ...and I have made custom decals for this bird since I have the ORIGINAL picture The picture was taken in the fifties in Argentina - the machine was used as a trainer for the Argentine Air Force (FAA in Spanish) and was very well liked by both students and teachers. This is a first for me: first time I build a resin kit - I LIKE polystyrene as basic material for many reasons I have used oodles of resin detailing and conversion AM but never a kit entirely made of resin Later today I will hopefully some intersting pictures to show progress in this project!
  11. Hi chaps! I'm in with an Argentinean aircraft! Dibs on Argentina!
  12. Mish: you must be one of the coolest ladies I've met! You fly gliders, build models, host a modelling site/forum... You must have a following like a freight train! Thank you for all the work you do here - it makes our lives brighter!
  13. Count me in... MiG-15, Il-28, Israeli aircraft galore!!!!!! I've already slated both Ouragans and Mystere IV's for 2015
  14. Or ANY kind of Venom at that! I guess it's my fault: I was going to start my Rareplanes Venom Mk.4 and just ran out of modelling time I guess I have to build my Rareplanes Venom - then just when I start painting and decalling it Airfix will announce a whole family of Venoms...
  15. WOW! I guess this is (in places like Sicily or the US) called "a proposition you canĀ“t say "no" to"... Paul J- never a problem! I refuse to be a kit "collector"; kits are made to be built . Any kit in my stash that I decide never to build gets sold off or given away ASAP Well - vox populi vox dei (that's a bit of Latin to go with the Italian aircraft ) No angry mobs necessary - I'll be building the FIAT G.46 during the GB Trainers If time and inspiration allows I might be adding the odd L-29 Dolphin (in Middle Eastern colours)... and maybe ANOTHER FIAT...
  16. Mmm... I am sorely tempted to join this GB! I have a ton of trainer aircraft since I have a soft spot for trainers: they are the gateways to pilot heaven However... I have been itching for a rare bird in my stash: a 1/72 FIAT G.46 ...and I have made custom decals for this bird since I have the ORIGINAL picture The picture was taken in the fifties in Argentina - the machine was used as a trainer for the Argentine Air Force (FAA in Spanish) and was very well liked by both students and teachers. The kit is a resin and etch Czech creation; I just found it in Ebay one fine day a LOONG time ago for a decent price and since then been hoping to luck out again and manage to find and buy a second one... What do you guys think?
  17. I'm in! I have among others a DH Dove by Rareplanes waiting... and a resin Percival Prentice... mmm so many vacu/resin kits - so little time
  18. So you have visited our lovely city? Next time you're here drop me a mail... It's always fun to meet modelers and talk models (for a change )
  19. Absolutely! It's a great favorite over here (Here being Gothenburg, Sweden) We usually eat it during summer - and during holidays... With any luck we'll have some for Christmas
  20. Interestingly enough the Airfix Herk is still the only kit with the right fuselage shape forward of the wing - the cargo floor kink and a generally better nose shape. Neither Italeri nor ERTL have managed to get that right. Shapewise the only real correction the Airfix kit needs is the engine pods... Flightpath did a correction set specially for the Airfix kit. The props are iffy too. Aeroclub did a set of Herk props. I have both correction kits! The kit has been modified to represent a Gunship (urk) - and it fits where it touches (double urk). Panelling needed - but then so does the Italeri kit! I would gladly buy an original Airfix Herk to build it! So if somebody reading this has a (pre-gunship) Airfix Herk for sale for a reasonable price please e-mail me about it...
