The Hawker P.1127 was first released in 1963, so over 60 years old now. I remember spending my pocket money buying this as a young lad in the sixties. I thought it was fantastic back then - even covered with gluey fingerprints! Something about the box (bag?) art on this kit, and the later Harrier GR.1, that always shouted "build me" 🙂

Here's a fairly recent build of the ESCI Sea Harrier FRS.1 that I came across recently. Don't know if its any help for you but perhaps for a few pointers or a bit of inspiration? 🤔

Hi Tim
Air-Graphic Models do a range of resin 1/72 RAF & RN aircrew and ground crew, including a pair of fast jet pilots seated in the cockpit. These do have their legs "amputated" at the knee but I guess that potentially makes them easier to fit into tight cockpits. No idea on the quality of these items although I do have some of their 1960's era RAF Far / Middle East ground crew figures which look pretty good in 1/72.

I can't make out the serial of the Buccaneer in the photo but it's clearly in the "XX" range. The first Buccaneer delivered to the RAF from that serial range (XX887) was built in 1974, delivered 29/04/74. So the annotated 1972 date can't be correct. I suspect its XX888 coded "D" of XV Squadron as a near identical photo of this aircraft (with the distinctive left slipper tank) is on the "Thunder and Lightnings" site; this attributes it to 1983.
There are also a number of photos on the RAF Luqa Malta Facebook site of XV Buccaneers at RAF Luqa (including XX888) in 1978 in the DG/DSG/LAG scheme.

Good call @Lord Riot I'm thinking along similar lines. Accepting the 1/48th kit is quite big, I'm planning to build it all folded up as if stowed in the hanger or more likely being ranged on a carrier's deck; probably HMS Ark Royal.

I don't know anything about the realative quality of these two kits but just checking Hannants, they show the 1/72 Academy B-24H as a future release at £20.69 which looks remarkably good value. On the other hand the Hasegawa B-24J is an eye watering £69.99, Neither kit is shown as available. Hannants have the new Airfix kit at £42.29 pre-order, I didn't think was too bad for a new kit.

You didn't mention dates but most likely they were Chinook HC.2/HC.2As. All the surviving RAF Chinook HC.1 fleet (32 airframes) were returned to Boeing for upgrade to CH-47D standard in the 1990's for further service with the RAF, designated Chinook HC.2; the first of which returned to the UK in 1993. Three additional HC2 Chinooks were ordered with delivery beginning in 1995. Another six were ordered in 1995 as Chinook HC.2A. The Chinook HC.4 (updated HC.2/HC.2As) was deployed to Afghanistan from December 2012, initially by 7 Squadron in support of Special Forces and then with other squadrons in Helmand in 2013.

Really pleased that Airfix have shown an interest in this often overlooked era. Might get one if the the kit reviews are good and hey its a new Airfix 1/48 kit...! I hope if successful it might also encourage Airfix to explore other subjects from this era, I particularly like those majestic bi-plane flying boats.

Not something I was expecting at all, but on reflection I'm looking forward to it and pleased its a new tool in 1:72. It fits right into the Airfix "late cold-war" series. A 1/48 version, beautiful though I'm sure it would be, would be just a wee bit too big for me with the rotors, but I'll definitely get one of these. I've a few unbuilt 1/72 Chinooks in the stash including a Matchbox & an Airfix reboxing (Italeri?) from about 20 years ago. Probably now dispose of them.
With the kit box artwork ready and the marking options announced - looks like its release is not too far off. Probably something in 1/48 to be announced later in the year.

Super job Charlie. I'd imagine resurrecting this was an even more satisfying build than straight out of the box. Great job on that canopy too, vacform canopies are always challenging.
It makes me want to build the kit!

Agreed. All staples in the Airfix range since the 1960's they must be on the Airfix radar for some 21st century love at some point in the future. Done in the (ever improving) Airfix new tool standards all three would be fantastic. Talking of which, I wonder if one day we might see Airfix introducing subtle ‘oil canning’ into fuselage and wing panels in the smaller scales, alongside rivet and panel detail?

I subsequently watched a follow-up YouTube video recently. Partridge Exterior Cleaning (supported by Joe Hewes) are in the process of carrying out an exterior clean of the Victor. They've done a super job on the starboard half and plan to finish the remainder (the port side seems much less filthy) when they have appropriate platform to access the tail section in the next few weeks. The surface finish - applied in 2010 apparently and possibly more "Dessert Pink than the original "Hemp" - is reported to be in excellent condition with little sign of paint flaking and the wash was sympathetically and carefully done; 'Teasin' Tina' certainly scrubs up very well! Also the guys seem very keen to work on the other aircraft (Nimrod. Comet etc.) too.
A really cool video, worth a watch. Let's hope these marevellous examples of Britain's aviation heritage have a good future.

At £22 off the original price for such a new kit (and free postage) seems a steal. Who knows I might even turn it into an early RAF S.2A; I'll have to check the reference notes from my CMK 1/72 kits... Although having seen this fantastic photo by Godfrey Mangion I really do fancy doing this bad boy at some point...

"Barrage" - something naval - could be a Battleship - or anti-aircraft. Re-release of the 40mm Bofors gun & tractor or 88mm gun & tractor in the Airfix Classics series.
"Daring" - re-release of 1/350 Type 45 HMS Daring
"Spectrum" - Got to be Angel Interceptor
"Payload" - maybe something with things under it's wings... SEPECAT Jaguar?
"Battle-Tested" - Could be anything really, but agree sounds like a heavy hint to the Fairey variety...

Bit esoteric but I've always had a hankering for a "Truck 3-ton 6x4 Crew Coach" - i.e. a WWII RAF bomber crew bus: a Fordson WOT1. in 1/76 or ideally 1/72.
Always occurs to me when I watch "The Dam Busters" with the crews heading off for their aircraft at the dispersals. Who's knows, maybe one day.

Great job there.
Disappointing that to hear that this kit has such poor decals and instructions. I have the kit in the stash (I also got the HK Models kit when Border said they had no plans to release it... grrr). Personally I thought the plastic kit itself was superb, certainly in comparison with its rival (although the HK Models kit does come with an alternate clear fuselage half and a transport trolley). Only got as far as fondling the plastic so far!
I did find this thread on a Lancaster nose restoration really helpful for info on the cockpit details, if anyone else is contemplating building the kit or its big brother the complete Lanc kit.
For anyone looking for reference material, Wing Leader Books series on the Lancaster provide unbeatable and accurate references for different marks and I understand a 4th Lancaster volume is planned specifically covering fuselage interiors, equipment, bombs and flying clothing etc

I regularly watch the Mr Hewes YouTube channel but could barely watch this one from Brunty. Enjoy seeing what he does with tanks and AFV's being brought back to life but so sad to see these magnificent aircraft in this condition. Do they a future?

Nice. I do rather like Zvezda kits. I think I'll have to get one! Be nice to see them do a Concorde to go alongside it at some point down the line.
I already have a colour scheme dilemma... to do it in its old school authentic Soviet era colours or to do a "what if" in the current Aeroflot scheme using a stylised section of the Flag, copying the Concorde BA livery?
