I've been and gone and done it now...... can anybody rescue me?
The canopy of my 1/48 Hasegawa F-18 Hornet had the usual moulding seam line down the middle (actually it was more of a step when I came to deal with it - quite a mismatch). I wasn't too worried about this because, although I haven't dealt with many of these, others have been quite confident about getting rid of the line completely and I followed their advice.
Having worked through the various grades of abrasive and ended up with quite a nice clean canopy, it just needed a polish to finish it off..... So close and yet so far!
Unfortunately, the plastic polish I used proved rather too potent and the canopy clouded up.... I had tested the polish on a CD case without any problem but there was obviously a chemical reaction of some kind with Hasegawa's plastic. I have since tried to rectify things by reverting to Micromesh but the damage is done. It's still partly clouded and there is also a fine 'crazing' within the plastic - fine cracks.
Any ideas how I might rescue things? As a last resort, I will get it as good as I can and then dip in Klear/Future and pray but I know it's never going to be right. Anyone out there with an answer?
I've discovered that the polish, by the way, is meant for perspex.... I've had it a while.
Failing a satisfactory solution, can someone advise me as to how I go about getting a replacement canopy?
Cheers
Chris
