  1. simple answer.... North Viet MiG17 was the F variant.... the kit I have is D/E so wont put myself forward for this GB (with that model anyway, if a new one comes along....).... will switch to the Soviet/Foreign Service GB
  2. cheers Mish.. the A-37B Dragonfly it is... the MB326 is progressing well so I will leave the baby for this GB......
  3. assume the Falklands has been done recently but it will be the 30th anniversary..... one that had occurred to me (doesnt fit in with an anniversary) was Lend Lease.... so anything used under the lend lease WWII agreement......
  4. 2nd colour, and attempted sort of digital....... 6. as promised some photos to show the closed up fuselage _MG_9497 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9495 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9494 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9491 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr
  7. thanks Mish... if I can confirm which variant of MiG17 the North Vietnamese used (and I can source decals (trip to the decal bank) I will then approach the 2 mods
  8. well thanks guys - thought Alcad would be a pain.... well anyway dont have the kits yet so plenty of time to read .. and have a tester (NMF Grumman Goose.....) to practice on
  9. OK guys, am sure this has been asked in the past but cant spot a thread.... what non-Alclad II options are there for NMF (thinking chrome/aluminium for an early Mig-17 (and perhaps a Fuji T-1A if that calls for it (box looks like it does).... Not confident enough for Alclad so would be enamel as preference.... do humbrol make anything that will work to give an approximation of NMF cheers
  10. have closed up the fuselage and made the wings... also 2 drop tanks and the 2 SUU weapons pods (not exactly sure what type of weapon they are)... photos to follow once I have painted the exhasut interior (forgot that bit) and combined fuselage & wings.
  11. I have applied the first green to this model IMG_9478 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr and am wondering now if I could mask it - am thinking forming a hard edge for colour 2 (next green) where it meets the first green and then when I do the 3rd colour (brown - I went for SEAC scheme) taht would have 2 hard edges as it meets both pre-painted greens..... will have a play...... EDIT just looked at some images - could also add some "insert" colours in 2nd green & brown to the original green (maybe it would be easier if it was painted solid green to start an dthen the other 2 colours added... think I will do the camouflage scheme (with hard "digital" edges) first then see how it looks
  12. I can second that - ASDA sell it too.... yes it is like a pale beige colour now but have not noticed any tinting when I used it (maybe slightly on a pure white surface but I think that was more me applying too much - but its not that obvious..... brush applied (.5" paint brush with soft bristles)......
  13. seems my wife has access to a supply so she will get me a small amount to try... in the past have used masking tape but that seems to give rough edges (I guess due to it being relatively thick).... guess you could use this for all masking - does it take paint off if you use it to mask camouflage for example?
  14. my only problem with this (and it is what I do) is that you have no depth to the frame... it would have sides into which the clear product was placed (like a normal household window)... The Dragonfly I am on with at the moment, albeit in 1:72 has a large raised cockpit and was hoping to be able to paint the inside of the frame as well as the outside - I guess the biggest problem there is that there would then be a (very very small) area of clear between outer and inner surfaces....... anyway, will see what I can do
  15. love the Alcad finish (and the kit and the whole) and your photoghraphy shows it off very well... I may try some Alcad (Fuji T-! and Mig 17) so will be back looking at this for inspiration.......
  16. great work so far - like the rest I love the neat scratch building on the interior and pity that there is not more on view.... thats the problem I find in 1.72 (I built the Airfix Grumman Goose earlier this year) - you get empty fuselage but the windows are so small (and thick) that you cant see the detail you add in there...... but you know its there (and so do we).....
  17. progressing very well Nobby.. like the extra detail on the canopy...
  18. ok... so as I said in my last post the paint has started to go on... the underside grey looks a bit light (no photos as it is masked up for the upper surfaces) so may get redone (or once the white plastic is covered it may look ok).... first green went on last night - it highlights a huge lip on the nose that I will need to address (tempted to cover if the canopy cover can be pushed that far).... so just some bad quality images for an update: IMG_9481 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr IMG_9478 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr IMG_9477 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr IMG_9480 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr
  19. have started to slap paint on... as my 8yo said - its an ugly plane with green camouflage - such a lovely son! but anyway.... first of 3 colours on... next green tomorrow then brown later in the week.... freecamo is the way to go so photos at the end of the week (the grey underside looks a bit pale, may look for advice on that)
  20. quick question... anyone know which mig 17 the North Vietnamese used in the 921/923 squadron (also is it permissible to enter 1 model in 2 GBs.... will put the MiG 17D/E in the Soviet Mig / Foregin Service GB and this one as well if that is allowed (and it is the right variant)
  21. looks like i could be in with a Dragonfly on this one.... do we still have the same 25% completed rule (I would assume form the title that that is not the case but just clearing things up.........)
  22. I should be able to enter this - MiG 17 (not sure what decals the kit comes with, an old Hasegawa kit) so may be on the look out.... time to visit the decal bank again! found out that it is a Mig 17D (or E) with Soviet, East German or Indonesian markings... am trying to see if this variant also flew during the Vietnam wWar (for the Vietnam War GB) so have plenty of options... count me in
  23. I use the AB-AS18 Mini Piston type which is also on that page... had 3-4 months now.... relatively quiet, relatively low heat... easy to set pressure guage. No problems wiht it yet (mind I have not done a huge amount of painting, finishe dthe hellcat + detail on the Dragonfly (just painted underneath of the MB326 and the airflow was even and tyhere when I needed it.......
  24. very very nice Calum.... is the green/brown camouflage masked or freehand?
