  1. cheers TRUSKY... yeah the large expanse of glass is the main reason I am paiting the inside as well as the outside of the canopy (i usually paint the interior colour first on the outside of the canopy but think in this case it would look wrong... pre-shading is (in my usual OTT style) plastered on and hope to get the first light grey coat on tomorrow...... going to look to do a bit of post-shading (using the technique outlined in a thread by Honza_K) so just working out the technique and how best to approach it......
  2. thanks. that was my leaning. I think dive drab.. have to look in to how to paint "cloth"
  3. thanks - i will now return the thread to the original question.......
  4. I use the packaging from a Venus razer blade - as it has a lubricating block on the blade the packaging is about 1-2cm deep. Ideal for mixing paint & thinner before adding to airbrush cup.... 1 sort of hijacking question - i am struggling to get small amounts of paint into the cup - usually have to have about 1mil (think thats right, the cup is 5mil so its about 1/5th full (or 4/5th empty i fyou are that way inclined). How can I get even less in? drop it directly into the airbrush perhaps?
  5. aircraft suits that paint scheme.... looking good after your earlier issues.....
  6. quick request for your thoughts guys.... creating a canopy cover (parking type cover) which I have now fit to shape. What colour do you think it should be? I have intake covers that will be red but think that a big red cover on the canopy would look out of place... so grey or olive drab or khaki? I guess I could try camouflage but not sure...... so as you can read I have started the canopy cover - hope to get photos of it once I have started painting....
  7. great start.... I am beginning to like Academy 1/72 kits (the F/A-18C I have really does look like a nice kit - too nice for me to ruin by building it just yet). Look forward to seeing this progress as you have done great work in the past......
  8. oohhh thanks for that - I havent started researching things yet - will probably try Alclad. Have a Japanese Fuji T-1 to try NMF on... at some point I will visit tips & tricks to read up on this subject
  9. you should do... they look so cute when you build them but when you load them up (mine is having 2 fuel tanks, 4 MK82 bombs and 2 weapon dispenser pods) it looks mean..... progress (no photos) wingtip pods attached, cockpit masked (going inside & outside - such a huge expanse of glass and the canpoy will be open that I felt it needed to be painted inside & out. Hope to get the interior grey painted on the canopy & the cockpit edge and then the pre-shading done.......
  10. nice.... am sure I built a 1/72 version of this too long ago to remember.... probably Airfix or Matchbox..... love the netting/wadding on the back
  11. nice detailing in the wheel wells - something I still need to work on myself....
  12. nah, thats not paint - he just used a rusty can!!!!! ;-) great progress Nobby - that gun bay door is very neat...... and yeah I can imagine expletives flying - mine would either end up stuck to my fingers with super-glue or eaten by the carpet monster!!!!!! anyway, I am getting more adventurous and will be back to pick up tips.......
  13. Patience, that is definately something I need to work on... once the MB326 is complete I will start the Fuji T-1. Now this has next to no cockpit detail (has 2 seats and thats about it - no IP, nothing) so I am going to set myself a task of trying more scratchbuilding..... really sitting, taking time, learning, reading, practising, reworking.... just to see how I can make it look..... this really is a stunning engineering project (its not modelling, it is engineering)..........
  14. at last some progress..... wings assembled and attached, horizontal tail attached as well..... nearly time for the paint shop (need to add the wing tip tanks and mask the canopy).... photos _MG_9531 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9532 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9533 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr
  15. good - i have too many other things to work on (only 2 on the go + 1 I want to do to test NMF but need to get them in before I start on this....)
  16. i am the same as you even on non-white schemes.... this one looks great.... I guess once you have a few more kits done down the track you can revisit this one and start your weathering practice on it (or perhaps on the brush painted one - least you wont ruin such a lovely version)......
  17. admit it - you have small batteries.... that fuselacge is huuuuuuuuuuuuge..... look forward to seeing this progress...
  18. thats some microscopic boring..... great start....... but you know what they say - size isnt everything ;-)....... and as it is the way you use it that counts then you are making a great job of this
  19. thanks for that.... remaining work now centers around the cockpit cover.... have glued on the clear parts so will make the canvas covering for that.... then its just tidying up and adding 2/3 more antenna/radio/sensor bits & pieces... on track for end of the month (earlier for me as I am in London on deadline day.......)
  20. those cables sure are fiddly.... I think I would end up with the stuck to my fingers rather than the pastic... looking forwrad to seeing this one progress.....
  21. thanks Mike and great progress. Have read (on here or ARC I guess) that some people rescribe the panel lines after KLEAR to give more depth.... may try that at some point....
  22. am with Keef & Crooked.... just to put us all to shame, how wide are those ribs - my guess is 1mm (2mm max)..... work that neat cant be done by a human - admit it you are a machine!!!! stunning as always....
  23. quite a bit of movement on this... some panel line washing done (another skill to learn, think it shows up flaws in my painting & KLEAR coating), wheels on (and no nose weight needed) and 4 very large fuel tanks added... The technical advisor thinks they look wrong - should be further back on the wings, but that would stop the flap operating so had to go with that... For those interested, the tanks & pylons are from a harrier (thanks SHAR2) and I quite like the look ok so photos _MG_9527 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9525 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9526 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9528 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr _MG_9530 by rob_william_worth, on Flickr
  24. looking good.... did the sausage you ate contain a picture of the "Fallen Madonna with the Big Boobies" by Van Klomp??? like the little detail of the flashes on the drop tanks...... makes it more than just an afterthought (to me anyway)......
