Oooh yes please!
-
cool looks good
Thanks Mark. I've got Elgar's Enigma running round my head and I'm thinking about a third double-build which means it's time for bed!
-
Bring on another White 13!
-
No sorry it's not a confirmed GB and if it was it wouldn't make it onto the GB calender for another 18 months

The GB calender is fully booked for the remainder of this year and all of next with four GBs running at any one time.
Mish,
Can we have an end date of August 1012 to mark the breaking of the siege please? Start whenever you think is right, but what a 70th anniversary!
-
Yep, count me in! I have recently bought the Malta Spitfire Aces Osprey book and was contemplating a Spitfire MkV trop in any case. This would be suitable motivation!
Paul
Brilliant! Now you can add your Spit to the grey/blue debate. Hopefully we'll get a date before 2015!
So glad to see so many potential Malta-istas!

If ever a build deserved naval aviators it's this one!

Here's how 'Jumbo' ended the day...

-
Milliputt holder for the Hurricane's display stand is in place - splurged it into the corners in the hope of a bit more 'bite' after looking at the photo!

And shoved another 2mm tube in to make the right size hole for the display, angling it over as much as the play in the hole allows...

Now it's time to finish re-sanding the dodgy seams, touching up the paint and finishing the build!!
-
Trial fit of the Messerschmitt in its diving position seems to be working out OK...

The base is less bright and lary in real life!!

-
Stanford-Tuck had two Hurricane Mk.Is, both coded DT-A. I wonder if his first Hurricane (V6555, the one I am building) had the DH prop, whereas his second (V6864) had the Rotol prop?
That's it, Dave. The second Hurri was the one Revell made in 1/32 with a Rotol prop in white and red.
How's the build going? Looking forward to progress - just try not to accelerate past mine too fast!
-
OK one £2.99 corner shelf and a pot of 'Forget-Me-Not Blue' woodstain later and a home-made display stand is taking shape.
Going to be tricky to seat the aircraft on their new stands - the Messerschmitt less so because the tube fits snug under the pilot's seat and hopefully the weight of the nose will pull her into the diving attitude I want but the Hurricane needs to be in a climbing turn. I think a Milliputt holder inside the fuselage before the final build should do the trick. Hopefully when it's all done it'll look like 'Jumbo' is reefing round for a full deflection shot... photos on the morrow.
As for the little build: it's on. A 1/72 Hurricane I of 310 Squadron accompanied by a 1/72 Spitfire Ia of 19 Squadron climbing hard out of Duxford.
I'm calling one 'Honour the Threat' and the other 'Czech + Mate'

Hi Erwin,
No I'm afraid no FW190s saw service during the siege. Initially Bf109E-7s of JG26 in January-June 1941 then Bf109F2/F4 in December 1941-October 1942. There were some Bf109Gs in Sicily in the winter of 1942 but the siege itself had been broken by then.

Hi Dave,
according to the artwork on the decals V6555 had a de Havilland prop
-
Been jiggling the models about with various ideas for stands. My first idea to use the Dogfight Doubles stand doesn't pan out - you don't get the right sense of perspective from it... just looks like two different scale models on sticks.
I've got some ideas, some two mill brass tube and some wood...
...and a spare stand with a 1/72 Hurricane Mk.I and Spitfire Mk.I for a possible mini-entry!

You know there's a pilot in the Tamiya 1/48 F4U-1? In fact I might have one. Let me check when I get home.
Great thanks
-
There is no pilot, blob or otherwise.
Thanks, Enzo... still hunting for a Navy pilot to go in my Hellcat, I figured at half price it might be worth a punt - thank you for saving me £7.49!!
-
Does anyone know if this kit comes with a blob in the cockpit please?
-
No idea but I'm going to Shoreham for the first time - can't wait. Hope to see you there!
-
Hmmm... yes just had another read and it appears Tom's being singled-out on this one.
RAF PR department has managed to make a spectacular mess of this one, all things considered.
-
According to the BBC it's because of a fault with the ejector seats. Given that there's only one engineer left in the RAF and he has to timeshare his brown coat and spanner set for alternate Thursday afternoons as we've given all his budget to Northern Rock, it seems it could take some time to fix:
Shame, although I thoroughly enjoyed the impromptu display over Abersoch a couple of weeks back - thanks, Tom!
-
You've already overtaken mine Pete!!
-
An inspiration, Mish. Lovely stuff.
-
dont know if it helps but i can send you a carrier deck to print out as a belly land
just pm me and i will send you some
Hi Mark,
Thanks a million but for this one I found a colour photo of Falalop Island where the aircraft was based, printed it off 8x10 and used an 8x10 picture frame for the base.
It's my favourite bit of the whole thing!
Never mind, she will reappear completed before too long I hope.

Hi Jase,
Afraid nothing in today's post and I'm off to visit my parents this afternoon, not getting home until Sunday. Never mind, it's been a huge learning curve and PO Mackie will be remembered with a nice little model before long.

I'm in. Love Brooklands to bits and did a great slot car event there last year (had to miss it this year sadly).
