  1. There's a little bit of cleaning up to do on the side window bulges. I didn't notice the teeny tiny print on the mask set instructions that said 'use liquid mask' on these and although I bolstered the Eduard sections with Tamiya tape a little bit of paint has come through. I'm hoping that by using Klear beforehand I can get it cleaned up a little easier. I'm thinking cotton bud, more Klear and a lot of sweating!
  2. Awesome news, thank you chaps. There will be a few extra parts too. Decals are from Patto's Place in Oz. I look forward to a little on-track action at the end!
  3. Just noticed that the Sauber had different front wings in 1987 to those on the model - which was released as the 1989 'silver arrow' version. I'll withdraw the request to include that one in the GB, but fingers crossed for an approval to build the Porsche!
  4. Masks are off... that was the limit of what I could do this weekend with a house full of kids. But at least she got a feel for the cabinet - which is now much brighter as a result!
  5. I've got a couple of Slot.It kits for very accurate 1/32 Group C cars which have more than enough parts to qualify as kits in themselves. I know there's the whole toy/model debate but frankly I think it's fairly redundant when it comes to these, both in the quality of the models and the skills needed to build them into accurate replicas. First I've got the Porsche 962c in Le Mans trim, which looks like this in the box: But with all the parts to be painted and assembled looks like this: My plan is to make it up as the 1990 Le Mans #7 entry of Hans Stuck, Derek Bell and Frank Jelinski. This brought together the two main forces in Porsche's Group C period - the main Porsche Squad and Joest - for the last proper 'works' effort. As well as building and painting the kit I'll need to make some mods to the wheels and tyres, as they switched from Dunlop-shod BBS wheels to Michelin-shod 6-spoke jobbies. I've also got the kit of the Sauber-Mercedes C9 that I'm planning to make up as the 1987 Le Mans 361 entry of Mike Thackwell/Henri Pescarolo/Hideki Okada. When I was a kid the Kouros-liveried Saubers of 1986-87 made a huge impact... in fact I still wear Kouros today! Here's the original... And here's the kit in its box, with even more pieces inside than the Porsche! I need to get these built, but would be delighted to be able to mix my two hobbies in one GB if it's OK with everyone.
  6. That's lovely, and astounding work on the paint. Really well done.
  7. It's all getting a bit serious now... first coats of primer and Broom Yellow applied when things warmed up and dried out a bit yesterday...
  8. Thanks Peter. As far as I can tell, the shorter wingtips, short nacelles and smaller tail surfaces were all only fitted on EO234/W4050 the first prototype - together with the leading edge flaps. They're next on my 'to do' list! The flaps and the short nacelles are still on the airframe, they were discovered during the restoration.
  9. Thanks Mish, after faffing around with 50 year-old Airfix repops the base kit's certainly a bit easier!
  10. Paragon parts all now fitted! My first ever resin conversion and I can't speak highly enough of the quality of the parts... but that's probably not news to most on here... Fuselage halves and wings ready for the peg-a-thon... Peggy the Mosquito... Exhausts filled in, stumpy wingtips and new tail surfaces fitted... Almost ready for paint... just the doors and greenhouse. I'll give it another wash and then the primer should even out the worst scratches...
  11. I know! I've had plenty of stuff get through in the past so, on balance, I'm probably one step ahead of the game. It sounds as if there is a Free Trade Agreement coming between the EU and USA so until then I think this will be my last transatlantic purchase.
  12. OK - prop blurs have arrived... in the UK. A very apologetic postman was on the doorstep this morning with a slip from the Royal Mail. My prop blurs didn't slip HMRC's net, incurring a £4.26 duty fee. I also have to pay £2.54 for the Special Delivery service from HMRC to my local collection centre and an £8.00 handling fee to Royal Mail. For heaven's sake! Anyway, I'll get over to the collection centre on Monday...
  13. Chop, chop, rub, rub... panic a bit... it's all go now! Once the primer's on the wings the single-piece flaps should come up a treat: Meanwhile the Paragon shortened nacelles take a bit of fettling to seat properly in the wing. On the left is a raw piece, on the right is one shaved and sanded to fit the curve of the upper surface: When put in place it's nice and flush. A bit of filler needed to get rid of the gap is all that's needed: Meanwhile the kit nacelles have been cut and sanded to sit as tight as I can make them. Again, a smear of filler and a lick of primer should conceal all this knifemanship to make a nice, smooth transition. Very nervous about mucking these bits up but I think that's helped focus my attention pretty well so far. Touch wood!
  14. Always a pleasure to see the Tami Lanc done nicely. That one's very nice!
  15. My word that's smart and clean - stands out for all the right reasons! Lovely job.
  16. Thanks Jim and Mish! Thanks David, the tricky bits seem to be common to all the builds that I've seen - closing the gaps at the wing root and on the fit of the nacelles. I'm not a natural 'grouter' so it probably comes easier to people more experienced with old or short-run kits. The rest of the nervous parts were my own fault, really. The black paint took a real dislike to being sprayed at around 3 degrees air temp and dried with a patchy matte finish in protest. It took two coats of Klear before decals and three more afterwards to get it glossy! I also used Revell acrylics on the canopies which lifted off like latex when I took the masking tape off, so painted them freehand in the end. Looking forward to the next batch now. The iconic red of 'Grosvenor House' will set these two off nicely, then comes the interesting bit of deciphering the colours for the others. I think that CSS was repainted pale blue when she was repaired after her RAF service, and retained this colour both as 'The Orphan' and 'The Burberry'. Meanwhile G-ADEF 'Boomerang' looks like aluminium dope with two-tone blue stripes. With 'Australian Anniversary' (CSS again), I'm leaning towards white. But I'm some way off getting these done!
  17. Thanks chaps. Martin, I'm not going to do the RAF scheme on CSS but it is tempting. I thought I'd try and have a little shelf of civil builds, which mostly means de Havilland record breakers! Seven of these kits should do me I think (!), and I've got Amy Johnson's Gipsy Moth on the way towards the stash. Would also like to do the AA's yellow and black DH89 Rapide and Auster. But I need to work my way through the stash a bit before then!
  18. Thanks Mish, I'd rather lost the will to live after stuffing up a kit as basic as the Airfix Mossie, so having to graft a bit to get a result out of these tiddlers was a tonic. From the rear they have a very suitable look for this GB! Now it's time to butcher some nacelles...
  19. Thanks, Bunny! It's certainly a long way from the Tamigawa 'falls together' approach, but with a bit of filler it does the job for me. 'Black Magic' definitely helped by the colours and the stripes, so optimistic that 'Boomerang' in particular will look special.
  20. After quite a few months' hiatus I'm back modelling in two GBs, but my first build went horribly, recyclable-y wrong in the Mosquito GB. Time to take a deep breath and do my best on two more basic jobs... results here. No aftermarket stuff, just the two recent reissues of this vintage kit. After what I thought was some rather smart work on them, I had to cut the heads off the 'interiors' as they were keeping the canopies off the fuselage! Oh well... that was the only snag, but it's still too cold for spraying and I had to put about 5 layers of Klear on 'Black Magic' in order to get any lustre! I really enjoyed doing them and researching a bit more on the Comet. In fact now these are going to be the first of seven - decals for 'Grosvenor House' led to more sets for 'Boomerang', 'The Orphan', 'The Burberry' and 'Australian Anniversary'. Should make for a colourful shelf among all the camo! Hope you like them!
  21. Hi Maxidad, Yes did bin it and then suffered a bit with confidence/mojo loss. After all, I'm trying to mod and fit a Paragon set on my second Mossie! Rescue is at hand in the form of the old DH.88 Comet kits. I'm bashing out a couple of those to restore my spirits before finishing off the EO234 build!
  22. Thanks Maxidad, The reason for the delay is that I've decided to do her wheels up, so awaiting delivery of some prop blurs and a display stand! My well get going on the pilot figure tomorrow, though
