  1. Not an expert by any means, but having researched the later-model SPADs in some depth for a project a few years ago, I'll share an observation. The Ripolin paints used on metal portions of French-produced a/c of the era were broadly designed to match the corresponding dope colors...but some matches were closer than others. As a for-instance, on the Smithsonian NASM's SPAD XIII -- whose colors were restored under the direction of noted aviation authority Alan Toelle -- the Ripolin color for the brown camouflage was found to match the dope color quite closely, while original paintwork for the 'light green' metal areas was found to be a darker and much more saturated hue than the corresponding dope. (Presumably different supply and manufacturing conditions during wartime may have led to those variations.) I know it doesn't answer your question as to the specific colors on your a/c, but it may suggest that different shades of the 'same' color may not have been out of the ordinary. Cheers
  2. Tend to agree with all of the above. The only all-grey (more or less) Allied WW1 single-seat types I'm aware of were some either used or tested by the US Navy post-war. French light yellow dope/paint seems a much more likely prospect.
  3. One of the best of Revell's old 1/72 WW1 efforts, and yours are cracking examples! Excellently done.
  4. I used to do that on occasion with my ageing long-haired dachshund. Without even lifting her noble head, she'd just look up at me with an expression that said "What an idiot...."
  5. Hey, I've got another decade on you...and I still make (slightly more dignified) 'zoom' and 'rat-a-tat-tat' sounds while 'test flying' my creations! One of life's most simple joys...for one of life's true simpletons.🥴
  6. As a lifelong enamel user previously, after returning to the hobby after a short break (some two decades ago), I switched to Tamiya acrylics when I was living in an apartment (purely for the purpose of limiting fumes). I found them durable and trouble-free to use, easy to mix and thin...and frankly, using a Badger Anthem airbrush, have never experienced any of the problems with tip-drying that other acrylics users seem to report so regularly. I use their own X20A thinner, and cleanup is a breeze with ammonia window-cleaner. The one shortcoming I'd admit to for the brand is their relative lack of 'standard' pre-mixed colors for some WW2 and modern a/c types -- though they're getting better all the time -- but since I've always enjoyed mixing my own colors anyway, I've never really found this an issue. I did use some of the PolyScale acrylics back in my 'enamel' days and really liked them. But since my Tamiya experience has been so trouble-free, I've not been tempted to try any of the newer, more 'custom' brands to date. Cheers
  7. Wow! That is a gorgeous scheme, and an excellent conversion. Great work!
  8. OOB, save for fettling one wing which had warped in the box to something like a boomerang curve. Luckily hot water and gradual gluing against a metal ruler helped sort that difficulty. Cheers
  9. I recall having seen a number of WIPs from very talented modelers showing elaborate pre-shading...which is then (in the photos, at least) literally completely invisible once the top coats are applied. I have no problem with highlighting panel lines, if one likes that look...but for me pencils, charcoal powder or dry-brushing seem much easier (and more controllable) ways of doing it.
  10. Airfix's 1/144 Boeing 737-200 with some fairly ancient Ebay-sourced MicroScale decals. With a liberal application of Micro-Film, the decals mostly held together - just a few touch-ups needed around cracks and splinters around the tail. But I couldn't resist the gorgeous tropical scheme!
  11. Here's Martin Waligorski's take from the well-known article on IPMS Stockholm's site: "The inside of the engine cowling varied throughout the Hellcat production, being Grumman Grey, Interior Green or Zinc Chromate Yellow. Later F6F-5 and had flat black cowling interiors. Other enclosed areas of the fuselage were either Grumman Grey (on early production machines) or Zinc Chromate Yellow." From my own research, it seems the firewall/engine bulkheads were nearly always zinc chromate yellow or green. Cheers
  12. It did for me as well. The term 'Mosquito Panik' was one with which I was unfamiliar...but it adds yet another cool chapter to the 'Wooden Wonder's' amazing story. Thanks to all for your kind words.
  13. This is Monogram's venerable 1/48 Mossie done up as FB Mk. VI "Wolf" of 605 (County of Warwick) Squadron, 100 (Bomber Support) Group, flying from Bradwell Bay, Essex in late 1943. According to Aeromaster's 48-552 "Mosquito Raiders V" sheet, the squadron flew in support of the Main Force Lancasters to counter the threat of German nightfighters. Wikipedia adds mention of intruder missions and 'Doodlebug'-tipping over the Channel and Southern England. Paints are Tamiya acrylics. Hope you enjoy!
  14. To my mind, the old "Turkey" never looked better than in Kiwi colors. Splendid build! Cheers
  15. Revell 1/144 F-14A Tomcat with Fightertown 'Adversary Bad Cats' Flanker-scheme decals.
  16. Only occasionally, each time triggered by some dull repetitive task...like cleaning up the seams on road wheels, or seemingly-endless secondary armament turrets on a battleship.
  17. Love the low-viz Badger on the engine nacelles! I'm with Erwin...the 'hawg looks best in those original colors, and your version is beautifully rendered.
  18. I'll add my kudos to everyone else's. Either project alone is simply stunning. Together they are high art. Superbly done!
  19. Superb project and a beautiful a/c -- both the prototype and the model! Your hard work yielded a gorgeous result. (I also give kudos to your "what it's all about" philosophy. That's what we're here for.) Cheers
  20. Beauty project! I've always thought the Spit looked particularly stylish in RHAF markings...but I don't believe I've seen the same in NM before. I shall be tagging along with great interest.
  21. A slightly awhile-ago build...Arii's ancient (but still cool) 1/144 P-3C Orion with neat-o Starfighter decals for VP-40 'Fighting Marlins.' Hope you enjoy!
