  1. Ah, it’s all a load of nonsense from Airfix, it’s only a year too late for Falklands 40, and is strewn with one rogue U/C door. 😲 That said, I’m really after this boxing, this rascal is a must, so it’s great for me. 😉
  2. Hi Ali, Quick off the blocks with this new kit, a good choice of colour schemes, and no bread bin in sight 😁, nicely-slicely done. 🍞. 😉
  3. Hello @Head in the clouds. Hope these help. Starting with the RAF Herk at Cosford. Good reference points here. This lets you know where the fillet ends. Ah a very big error on my part, oups, ( now it’s here I’m mot sure this isn’t the leading edge ). 🤔 A quick look at my own sequence of photographs does reveal this IS the L/H leading edge. And an Italian one from RIAT this year. Normally my camera doesn’t produce lousy images, but in this case it has. It’s been inserted as a comparison to the above photo, and @fatal bert‘s comment’s appearing to be true. The sit of the Italian aircraft is sitting rear down the rear door down ready for loading, versus a museum piece possibly robbed of usable materials for what was until July was an active fleet. I’ve inserted this photo also for a comparison of t’other side. As for XV208 Snoopy will differ from the photos I’ve posted. As always I don’t mind giving an apology when needed, the erroneous photo came from scrolling through and copying and pasting. 😉
  4. Fighter Control - Warbirds, Replicas and Nostalgia…….. and of course my external hard drive 30 years of stuff…… 😛
  5. On the back of my photo it’s dated 1979. 😉
  6. Hello everyone. Sorting out the external fuel tanks. I thought I’d run with a little update rather than wait until I have too much to post and then forget something. So, the fuel tanks need a little bit of work to get them up to a decent standard. The biggest issue and problem at first glance is that the panel lines are too shallow, verging on a waste of time, rub down the seams and they’re gone. To add to this the assembly joints on one tank are shoddy, no real shake here. What is totally unacceptable is the lack of a gravity filler cap on one of those tanks, and this is an area of this kit that is bringing the level of this kit down from ish to just rudimentary. This problem persists all over the the model, it manifests itself in panel lines being extended into other panels, it’s really obvious when you start re-scribing the whole model. One final bemoaning of this kit, whilst doing a little bit of research I’m now accepting that this kit is very basic in its design. A look at the above photos I’ve taken shows that the fuel tanks are missing quite a bit of detail. So, I’ve scribed the fuel tanks nearly as per Zveda, adding the missing gravity fuel cap, but, removing the very last panel line. For this build I can’t be sure about any of the panel lines and I don’t have all the time in the world to knock myself out going accurate. With the little bit of research I’ve done, at a later stage I’ll be adding a few plastic card details. As you can see the scribed lines are now better emphasised to take a colour wash. I’ve now got a little gain in the form of not having to re-visit these two things. I’ve still got some scribing work to do on the fuselage, these last 10-12 panels are small and are trying my (patience) scribing craft. The engine nacelles are in totality a royal pain, small and fiddly. I’ve mentioned in the past my two Airfix Shackleton’s builds, those engine nacelles were in effect very very easily re-worked and updated. Moving forward I have to make most of the panel lines good, then there’s the missing parts/details and finally I’m going to add some oil and fuel drains. I’ve still some Eduard details to play around with, to which I hopefully will have some success. What I really need and want is the scribing done so I can move forward and onto a few things that will re-invigorate me. I fancy doing some stock plastic detailing I could do it piece meal but think doing it in a block will be best. Thanks for looking. 😉
  7. Sadly I can’t remember the exact details, but, this event was part of a documentary, to make matters worse I can’t remember if it was one of those Alien programs…… The premise was that the plane was found in very good condition in the North Sea with the canopy closed or there abouts, hence the alien abduction, but after some investigation it was discovered that he had vacated the aircraft and the canopy had closed by itself…….
  8. Hello @Head in the clouds. Does this mean your model is close to getting a lick of paint? 😃 Hope this picture helps, it at least shows the outline of the walk ways. The walk ways would have been the standard UK Hercules red and yellow alternating segments. I’m assuming you’re aware of the Xtradecal set specifically for the UK Hercules. 😉
  9. Hello everyone. Still scribing this beast. 😵‍💫 It’s been said before, I don’t like scribing models. And the six weeks of end of term teaching break is getting in the way. Time for less working and a little bit more sherking , Mrs B only recently said she wished I did a little less overtime…..and that I needed to do a little more modelling especially in relation to the growing stash. Nice. My shift pattern has me off for seven days and this has given me time to catch up with stuff I need to do and quite possibly a whole lot more than I care to do. With the recent release of the Airfix Hunter and in particular the GA.11 I was going through my collection of photos and it appears that I photographed the GA.11 at the East Midlands Museum, but in my own stupidity I only photographed the cockpit. To tomoz I’m going to said museum not only for said Hunter, but the Vulcan XM575 and…. the Canberra……and don’t get me started on the Nimrod R1 😍. I would love to get my Nimrod R1 looking ship shape……… I have an apology to make, sorry to those folks following this but I’ve been very lax in getting my own photos into this build. Next, I had some reservations about the Eduard masks, with myself fondling the model quite a bit whilst doing the re-scribing I’ve noticed that the circular windows aren’t flush fitting and that I’d already stated that the Eduard masks are too small. With some sanding and polishing to be done, re-masking has given me reservations , and with that, out of the blue comes this ASK mask set. I’ll give it a go later on. Having been happily scribing away with it’s highs and lows it entails, the fly in the ointment has been continuity, you would think that ‘ cracking on with the scribing ‘ constitutes ‘ continuity ‘ but it’s been a little more like as and when I can concentrate enough…… I just haven’t fancied posting about the constant cycle, to whit I mean that in a positive manner. So, I fancied a little break in the form of one of my last bits to build, this came in the form of the four engines, witch will lead me to a little more scribing. Most of the engine build went well per-say but one engine was troublesome, big gaps appeared all due to the innards not playing ball. More gaps to deal with in the future. I’ve had to number the engines because the I/B and O/B are of different design, and need some fetteling. I’ve known for some time that the Eduard exterior detail set is a load of nonsense, things just not fitting. Very non fitting parts. Re-scribing these parts is painful tiny tiny panel lines. And the real thing, lots of fasteners missing, but a step too far, for this model. Showing the exhaust louvre almost closed, which I’ll be depicting it opened along with some of the drain pipes. Nice detail shot of the engine cowling. Another strange anomaly from Eduard is the depiction of the chaff dispenser, which is depicted by Zveda, but I’ve given it a go just to see if it’s actually needed. That answer is no. As always I managed to make life a little bit more difficult for myself by not showing the Zveda nonsense, but, next time I’ll try and show what Zveda have missed. Thanks for looking. 😉
  10. And out of the bread bin ( AKA Area 53 ) something silver and very shiny was observed , @Dunny was heard saying “Looking quite marvellous “ and “Amos “ was seen breaking into a fresh pack of Lurpack and a fresh Farmhouse loaf ……….😁
  11. Hi @Lord Riot I’ve had a rummage through my collection of photos and have found these beauties, but, all of them are 83 Sqn in the XL range. …….you know the answer is ……83Sqn and XL. 😉 …..and another thing Gunzi gloss white over a grey primer base is good, then finish off with a lick of satin. Spray the white between the panel lines and you’ll get a nice patina of solid white with light grey panel lines………only suggesting…
  12. I’ve been waiting patiently for this rascal, a few more weeks….. and hopefully a few more months and the two seat will fill another hole in my collection ( errr I mean stash). 😉
  13. …..and now a small compliment….. nice. 😉
  14. Very nicely done, interesting weapons load out. 😉
  15. Hello everyone. Distractions, distractions, distractions. Starting with the odd one out. The green bin is holding me to ransom. Even though I live in a relatively new house the little bit of hedges, grass and plants all need attention, this means that as soon as the bin is empty I need to fill it, damn that two week period until emptying. The only saving grace is the sooner I get it filled up the sooner I can get on with other stuff. A friend in need. I don’t do custom builds anymore, but, a former club member asked if I could help……… I believe in good karma and so I had to help out. My friend is a 1/72 armour guy who finishes his models with the hairy stick 😬. Well, he’s built some sort or weirdness in the form of a 1/40 M48 bridge layer. I’m thinking that it’s a step too far to brush paint this rascal. He’s asked some of his closest friends to help out but they all had excuses, best friend said he’d give up modelling after leaving the model club and sold his airbrush. …… That leaves me, on the upside the kit was fully built and in primer. I’ve only had to airbrush the top colour, it’s done now, that’s my good deed. Model base has been made. Whilst I was away on the family holiday my stay at home child made comment to Mrs B that she felt that she was receiving parcels daily, thanks for that. During my last model build I left designing the base far to late, this time around I kept on top of it. So, when I’ve got a spare bit of time I can get on with it. RIAT Airshow. I can’t explain this one as its not the done thing. I had a rare moment of a whole weekend to do something with, so with just three days to go I decided to go. I n the 15 years I’ve been at BAE Systems this is the first time I’ve been and what a blast I had, my only regret was not doing it sooner. The reason why I had reservations was the enormity of the task involved, a night at a Premiere Inn or Travel Lodge should cost say £55, but, in this consumer society we live in these places were asking £450 a night, profiteering all the way. The good bits. Traders, called in at the Aviation Book Center looking for some new stuff but was disappointed with the new stufft, what I found was some older books that I should have bought back in the day. 😃. Also I called in at Antic’s Online and had a chat with Andy of Antics. It wasn’t the day to be buying models, weather and the weight of them going against me. I was thinking that some of the air show exhibits there won’t be seen again, stopping off at the Greek Phantom saw me bagging a book there, and I was bowled over by being able to crawl all over some of the American stuff. A post holiday chat. Mrs B asked me what I fancied doing moving forward, ie my birthday. I said last year that I was never going back to the Avon model show again because it was scorching hot. To which Mrs B replied that being hot wasn’t going to be a problem this year around and that we could get away for the weekend. The Avon model show was as good as usual, bought some more books and no models, but again said hello to Andy at Antics. Cought up with some modelling friends from one of my old clubs RAF St Athens, and had a good chat, but, I still left the show early. Whilst on the way home…… and stuck in that M5 M6 junction nonsense I had thoughts about RAF Cosford and the so called Bomber Command new exhibition. I may have been here earlier in the year but thought the latest changes warranted another visit. Well, the Bolingbrook looks great, much better than when I last saw it at Hendon, the point of this visit was to see the newly refurbished Wellington. Cosford have made some changes and they don’t sit well with me, especially as I wanted to visit the lower hangar and we were unable to see what changes were made in there as a horrible history’s tour was on. With the test and development hangar partly empty seeing the exhibits tossed outside was upsetting. And another thing….. I’ve gotta go back to Hendon to see the rest of the aircraft I would like to see that have been shipped out. I’ll get around to the Herc model maybe tomoz….. 😉
  16. Hi Ali, One photo from my collection shows off the blanking plates over the gun ports. Also a rod aerial, don’t know what it is called. 😉
  17. Lordy-Lordy that’s some heavy duty clamp you’ve got going on. I’d have used just masking tape , but , that’s just me. Keep up the good work. 😉
  18. Remember that series: Rising Damp? Rigsby said : my cat is called “Vienna” , Phillip asked why’s that? Rigsby said get in a fight with her and it’s good night Vienna 😺.
  19. Here’s one I did earlier, and used the three above photos for reference and inspiration. Thanks for looking. 😉
  20. Ah thank you, thank you, thank you. I really appreciate that. 😉
