  1. The first of my many hopefully. This is where it stalled: And this is what I have done this weekend. Painted the wheels and under carriage Sprayed the bottom grey And pre shade the top, awaiting paint.
  2. I have seen models of French Bearcats with alot heavier weathering than you have done here Jon, and they didnt look overdone. Yours, imo looks very good, but then i do like alot of weathering. If i have one observation, its that the roundels look new compared to the paint. Maybe if these looked abit older then it would sit better to your eyes. as for looking like the real thing, im with Mike on that one. Very nice model so far, and completed it is going to look even better.
  3. Very nice indeed. Is it the old revell kit?(i dont know of any other in 1:48) if so then you have put in loads of work to put it right in the first place.
  4. Very nice model! My wife just walked past and asked "is that a model" i said "yes" and she said "it is very good isnt it" Praise indeed from someone who only usually twice at handbags.
  5. My wife is a book person, and she collects books to read someday the same way we buy kits. Im sure that most if not all hobbies have the same mentality.
  6. Right, this Telford year is the year i finish all my started builds or throw them away. So im in for this one, starting with, 1/24 Golf being converted to a convertable 1/72 Vultee Vengeance 1/144 Seaking 1/72 Auster 1/72 Tornado 1/72 Liberator 1/72 EH101 1/24 Ferrari I am hoping to finish at least three by the end of this GB.
  7. Thanks for that everyone. I am better suited mentally to 'feel' the colour rather than do it scientifically, so I'm glad I asked now. Top tips then is to not use white but to use a sympathetic colour, and judge each model as and when it is painted.
  8. Good points well put, and i have never done it myself for the reasons mentioned by all five of you. But at Telford i noticed that all the models i was really impressed with, looked a little paler in tone than what i would have painted if i did that model. Using grey or grey/blue instead of white sounds like a top idea. I have a liberater that needs an all over green paint scheme soon, so i will try this method and post some pics to see what people think.
  9. I was reading a book the other day by Brett Green ('Airbrushing and finishing scale models' which i can highly recomend), and he was explaining how the scale of the model effects how light the colour should be. My question is what percentage white do you all add to what scale of model, or don't you bother? Mr Green recommends 25% white to a 1:48 scale model, and 35% to a 1:72. Larger scales have less white, smaller scales have more. This made sense to me as a theory as things further away are lighter than things closer (ie mountains in a picture are very pale compared to closer hills.) He then goes on to quote Scale aircraft modelling magazine who gets the theory the opposite way around and jumbled up. For northern europe they say 1:144 add 7% white, 1:72 add 15%,1:48 add 10%, and 1/32 add 23%. What are your thoughts?
  10. Isaw a demonstration at telford on how to spray Alclad chrome, and he used black acrylic as a base. He then buffed up the paint and applied 4 coats of Klear and buffed each coat after it had dried. He ended up with a high gloss black that he then sprayed the chrome over. Reason he gave for not using there black was that it takes 24 hrs to dry and dust and imperfections can spoil the finish. The acrylics dry so quickly that it can all be done in an evening. so with that in mind perhaps buffing the Halfords primer and black pre shading will produce better effects as the finish will be the same.
  11. I bought a load of these at telford, so thanks for the warning Andy. Have you posted any pic of the Iron man? if not please post some finished one, it sounds interesting
  12. I love this! they all look as if they are build to a very good standard too. well done Tony.
  13. I am making one of these at the moment and was very pleased with the progress untill i read this thread. I just read your build thread to see why it looks so much better than mine, and its the work gone into all the little extra bits of detail. Nice job Wayne

  17. You are probably going to retain if not win the ashes. You get to take pictures of your models inext to what looks like a very inviting pool. The model is of your usual very high standard. And all the above with nice sunny weather. The least you can do is admit that Marmite is better than Vegimite. Nice build Jim.
  18. Very nice Mike. I can see by the dates that they were all finished while i was having a break from internet modelling, thats why i hadnt seen them before. Even the famous Valiant is complete, im impressed.
