  1. Nice. If you crop in closer and shoot from high angles on that glass table, it looks a bit like it's flying over the sea.. Ian
  2. No. 58 Squadron operated Halifax GR IIs in both the grey/white scheme AND standard bomber colours when they were operating from Stornoway in the latter months of the war. By then most ops were night anti-shipping recces in the Baltic, hence the need for darker colours. Ian
  3. Nice work Scott. Reminds me that I need to get some more done on mine.. Ian
  4. Hi Jon For the record, the photo you posted was taken at Ramatuelle ALG, a few miles south of Saint Tropez on 22 August 1944. Ian
  5. Hi Excellent build. You seem to have got the transparencies to fit very well. They were one of the reasons I ended up chucking mine against the workshop wall... Ian
  6. Yes, I too have enjoyed wallowing in all that nostalgia. I think my first one was a Skyhawk that my mum bought me for being brave after having an injection! Sadly, that trick no longer works... Ian
  7. I've just encountered the same problem. I ordered an Aeroclub vacform canopy from Hannants - ABC086 - which is designed for the Revell 190. Price is £1.17 Ian
  8. Yes, I've bought paints from them recently, and there was no problem with the fact that I'd not ordered plastic as well. Though I was sorely tempted!! Ian
  9. Fraser That's a top job you've done there. The Widow is one of my favourite planes. There's just something purposeful and creepy about it..! I tried and failed to build that kit years ago - was going to do 'Cooper's Snooper' - but it just defeated me. Yours is excellent. Thanks for posting. Ian
  10. OMG - the rigging...! Fantastic! Ian
  11. There are reasons. And then there are reasons, eh? Sorry to hear that Jens.. Anyway, I do particularly like the Luftwaffe contingent, especially those 262s. Please put the wheels on! Best wishes Ian
  12. I love the low-viz markings! Ian
  13. Thanks Danny. Uh-oh, that sounds ominous - is there a fit problem? I know the shape isn't quite right, but I'm assuming if I just lower it a bit it'll improve the look of the thing. Or am I being overly optimistic? Ian
  14. Thanks for the comments! Inspired by Angus's Sea Hurricane build here, I've just got hold of a new Airfix MkII to try out. May have it done before the year's out.. Ian
  15. Pavol Just seen this. Quite breathtaking... Ian
  16. Hi Tom I wouldn't mind giving this a go. It would be my first GB. I was thinking Luftwaffe WW2 - maybe a Do 217 or Ju 188 from the 'Baby Blitz'. Ian
  17. Very neat and crisp.. I thought I'd made enough Hurris, but this inspires me to try the new Airfix job. Ian
  18. Here are my three 1/72 Hurris from some years back. As can be seen I never went in for weathering in those days so they look a bit too clean.. My tribute to Sidney Camm.... Hasegawa Mk I wearing Airfix decals for No. 1 Sqn. Revell Mk IIC intruder with aftermarket decals for No. 87 Sqn's CO. Revell Mk IIB 'hurribomber' in No. 402 Sqn markings. I've toyed with the idea of doing a bit of weathering on them, but maybe I'll just leave well alone and experiment with new kits! Ian
  19. Marcel Fantastic work. What did you use for the wash - old-fashioned paint or newer pigments? I ask because I'm curently experimenting with such things! Ian
  20. I'm sure your bank holiday weekends won't be complete without seeing some shots of my Lanc. Progress has been glacial, as expected, and it's already had one prang when I dropped it on the patio yesterday during a sunbathing/plastic-sanding session. The fuselage cracked and all the bits inside started rattling around. Anyway, I've repaired the damage and discovered that you don't really need to glue the interior bits in before sticking the sides together. No, you can do it afterwards - using a head torch, tweezers and copious swearing!! TTFN Ian
  21. I forgot to add that I don't think I'm going to adjust the wing dihedral, which some have done, but I will be altering the sit of the mid-upper turret as that does look a bit odd to my eye. Ian
  22. Hello I've started work on my 1/72 Lanc using the Revell kit. The cockpit is finished and I thought I'd post a few photos - first time I've done this - to let you see how it's going. I intend to finish the aircraft using the kit decals for LM739 'Grog's the Shot' of No. 100 Sqn, but without the yellow formation leader markings used for the Berchtesgaden raid. I removed the cockpit floor behind the skipper's seat, which isn't there in the real aircraft, lowered and brought forward the seat itself and thinned out the armour. I also added a trim wheel and parking brake, and made a fold-up seat for the flight engineer. Colours are based on the fuselage section of 'Old Fred' in the IWM, so only the bomb aimer's office is black. This may or may not have been the case with LM739, but this time round I'm determined not to get bogged down worrying too much about such things and just get on with the build! I elected not to use the kit decals for the panels, preferring to dry brush the moulded on detail instead. Though not very visible in the photos I used washes and a bit of dry brushing with metallic paint to give the interior a 'used' appearance. I hope to detail the turrets a bit and use Quickboost guns to replace the awful ones in the kit. Hopefully I'll have some more pics to show before too long.. Best Wishes Ian
  23. John Here's a wartime alternative: http://www.iwmcollections.org.uk/media/ima...e/TR_000245.jpg This is how I'm going to do my Revell one. Anything to break up the black a bit..! Ian
  24. Hi I've been catching up with new (to me!) developments and am pleased Airfix are releasing new kits again. Like others I have also been amazed by the latest box art. I was in a store with my son on the weekend, and almost bought the Sturmovik on the strength of the painting on the front. Then I remembered what an old boot that kit was. And anyway, I want to resurrect my 'RAF aircraft of WW2' themed collection I know the Hurri and the Spit Mk IX are new, and presumably the Spit Mk I is still the old but very good kit from decades ago. I know the Wellington is ex-MPM now. And I'm pleased to see the Hampden and Battle are making a re-appearance, but presumably they've not been changed. Are there any significant new tool 1/72 WW2 RAF kits in the pipeline from Airfix? Or anyone else for that matter? A new Halifax and Stirling would be nice, but of course highly unlikely... I wonder if they might be re-jigging the Mosquito, although I seem to remember the outline was pretty good? But that box art. Stunning stuff, in my 'umble opinion.. Ian
  25. Thanks very much for that. I'll get on the case. And before I do, I better check the rest of the parts carefully... Ian
