  1. Excellent news! Hope it goes together better than its little 1/72 brother.
  2. My favourite aircraft in the right scale with not many bits and an all black paint scheme. I think I can manage that!
  3. Excellent piece! Britmodeller, Airfix, Warlord comic and Commando War Stories for Boys. All rolled into one!
  4. Excellent. You can't go wrong with a Tamiya kit. And the G-6 is my favourite 109 - esp with the underwing cannon pods.
  5. The price issue is not a problem for me. It'll stop me buying too many. I intend to get a couple of 262s. They'll look good on top of the B-17, Whitley, He 111, Lanc, Kate, Beaufighter, Stuka, Do 17 and all the other boxes in the cupboard with the 'Caution: Build One Before Adding Another' warning sign on the door.
  6. Excellent. I especially like how they've done the cockpit glazing. But I really don't care for the two decal options offered. I was hoping to do a more representative MTO B-25 and the artwork on 'Desert Warrior' is a bit over the top for me, although I'm assuming the map and starboard tally was only added for the war bond tour in the States, so could be left off? Anyway, as I'll only be wanting to build one Mitchell I'll probably now wait for the RAF boxing that must be following. Well done Airfix, though. It looks like a really great kit.
  7. I wouldn't say that all the new Airfix kits have been 'fun and easy to build'. I got very fed up with the Blenheim! Others have been no problem at all. Like most people here I'm perfectly happy to apply good old modelling skills to any project. It's the very basis of the hobby we love. But I do see the point that some people are making - you just know that a Tamiya or Hasegawa Blenheim would fall together in a way that Airfix's one doesn't. It's not a huge problem in the scheme of things, but one that does exist. And the fact that some of the kits are aimed at beginners means it's important to get the basics right. The need to shave off some plastic from the fuselage to achieve proper wing dihedral, for example, won't be obvious to a complete beginner, and is something they really shouldn't have to do. I love working on the new Airfix kits. But when I built one of Hasegawa's P-40s a while back I couldn't help but marvel at just how effortless it was by comparison to one or two them. Hopefully Airfix will go on improving in this regard, and achieve a comparable and consistent quality of fit in future releases.
  8. Superb. Some cracking 1/72 Luftwaffe birds being posted here lately!
  9. Absolutely wonderful! I'm inspired to crack mine open and start building. Are you going to have a go at some other new Airfix kits?
  10. It's a great little kit and you've made a superb job of it. Top work.
  11. Haha. I think they all did in those days. Dad had a few from the opposition too, including a Hillman Avenger and Hunter. Don't think they were much better!
  12. Sadly, I think the Airfix bod was right. Collectors want them for their rarity value. I doubt if this niche enthusiasm would translate into healthy sales of re-issues to the mainstream market. Who under 50 has even heard of these cars now? That said, I'd love to get hold of the Marina - a car my dad took us round Europe in. Didn't Clarkson call it the worst car Britain produced?
  13. Outstanding. One of the best Gustavs I've seen for a while. I like the sawtooth demarcation on the upper surfaces (typical of an Erla built aircraft?) and the RLM 02 mottle.
  14. OOB...apart from the resin, the brass, the decals! A stunning pair of 'Emils' Steve. Lovely crisp paintwork and very imaginatively presented. My only suggestion - I'd have had the number two with his head turned round, checking his six, as befits his role. Although that might have ended up with him looking more like a character from the Exorcist.
  15. I missed this first time round but just wanted to say what a wonderful collection of models you have there J-W. And some truly original subjects too. Thanks for posting! Ian
  16. That's brilliant. I remember my dad making one of these for me. He liked the fact that there was a little 1/72 version of him with his dog - although the Bloodhound was a bit after his time!
  17. Cheers Steve. It's quite an attractive colour! I've got a pot of Sovereign Colourcoats in that shade so wondered if you'd used that. I've been toying with using it for the undersides of a BoB Hurri or Spit, just to make a change from boring old Sky.
  18. Cracking Spit Steve. What paint did you use for the Sky Blue spinner and tail band?
  19. Fascinating subject and a nice model Josip. Did the 109s and Hurricanes ever operate alongside each other?
  20. Very nice indeed. I like those Vallejo colours. Airfix's MG17s look like howitzers though, so I may go for some resin replacements when I do mine.
  21. I think the lubricants and fluids leaking from every panel and fastener like that is overdone, and doesn't bear much relation to reality. Also the rusty exhaust looks odd. Rest of it is absolutely excellent!
  22. Neat and crisp and wonderful. Did you use a clear coat over the silver?
  23. Bravo! Absolutely top notch Halifax. You've done a cracking job there Ced. I've been toying with the idea of getting one myself after seeing Phil Flory's video build, but think I may opt for the Mk III version as I can't be bothered to tackle those very noticeable engine problems. Entertaining WIP too.
