1921 Canadian Fishing Schooner Bluenose 1/64 scale
Ripaman replied to Ripaman's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Thanks Jeff Made a couple of portholes, not sure if I like them yet Then added the outside edges of the roof cut this from 1/16" cherry Then I need to make a moulding as per the drawing so I filed a shape into a blade made a jig so the I could scraped some boxwood and it came out just as I wanted Machined the corners out of boxwood as close to the shape and cut into 90 deg pieces Cut the roof planks out of boxwood and these will be tapered to fit roof. Until next time. Regards Richard -

Very nice model Stuart and thanks a lot for showing how you did the water Regards Richard -
Put some detail on the right cockpit side cover, remove the plastic map case or was it for Pilot manual and made one out of brass, should find something to put in it Added some toggle switches, made a light, added two levers and put a couple of electrical wires, this spruces it up Installed the brass parts which go under the flaps had to do a bit of filling for them to fit, will install flaps after painting Did have some gaps to fill Got the elevators on Did not like the gap between the fire wall and fuselage so I added a .040" x .060" strip of plastic, I think it looks better and will hopefully not stand out once painted Two more pipes added which go from radiator to under the engine Filled and cleaned up the top of fuselage So now it is getting closer to add some paint to her Until next time Regards Richard

1921 Canadian Fishing Schooner Bluenose 1/64 scale
Ripaman replied to Ripaman's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Time for an update, Started to look at how I was going to build the cabin The coaming for the cabin is not flat, it has an arc from port to starboard and concave from fore to stern I decided I would make the same shape as the coaming on the deck so that I could build off the model, so shaped some wood to fit the inside of the coaming and glued it together Then made the outside shape Started by taking a 1/8 square boxwood and machining a 1/32" on two sides so that the planks will but up nicely as per drawing Then made my own planks 1/32" thick, four planks total for each side, set them up in my plank bender I have with the slight bend and then glued them together Once dried cut to length and trail fitted in my jig, rounded the corners as per drawing and then made sure it worked on model Once I had all sides done and glued to the posts I added some 1/8" boxwood all around top and added beams Then added supports for cabin skylight and companionway Until next time Regards Richard -

Was going to come and join but then retired and moved to the Island was looking very good last time I saw. Sort of I am doing bits here and there while working on the Bluenose Glued one side of the fuselage and added the wires for elevator, rudder and trim elevators, these trim wires might not be in the right place but you won't see Then added the wire coming into air tank, also made electrical connectors to Radio So now I have install the other half made sure all fitted nice and glued fitted not to bad couple of seams to fill Until next time Regards Richard

Ripaman replied to Ripaman's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Just trying to do as per the drawings Beefy but I tell ya it's the tools I have collected over the years helps me get to the detail I want, I can tell you your standard is right up there mate you don't have wait one day That is brilliant Stuart finish that one and then start a wooden Bounty, have three of those Anatomy of a ship books they are great. Regarding rigging you should buy this book it is brilliant will be using it when I do the rigging on the Endeavour It is full of pictures, here are a couple, this is just to show whats inside if this is not allowed please delete Do have these two as well I too have not done much rigging myself Stuart started on the Endeavour, 13 years ago will be doing the Bluenose, I'am going to do as per Martain said, "do it in stages" Always appreciate your comments Kev that word, its coming along eh I think this is one of my favorite hobbies (Wooden Ships) I do appreciate your comment Off to visit grandkids in Fort St John for the long weekend so until then Regards Richard Thanks very Much Murdo -

Ripaman replied to Ripaman's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Time for an update, added the Bobstay plates with links Then carved the star out of boxwood Was looking at a picture of the real Bluenose and I noticed the back mooring chock had a lip around it so went back to the drawings and it is not mentioned so I took a piece of boxwood and made two, image it to help with my model please delete if this is not allowed. This is what I had And this is what I have done Masked the bottom sanded and repainted it to be close to copper Red Once this was dried masked the top and painted white Now got the black painted That's it for now Regards Richard
