  1. Thanks Nobby, used your technique again on the last rib which on a real plane was pressed out of steel. Regards Richard
  2. Thanks for your kind words Trubbie, the nuts you see are made from foil, I bought the nutter from Sprue Brothers Models LLC, very handy tool and you can punch out about 30 nuts in seconds and then just CA were you want them. Again thanks I do like to do small scale. Regards Richard
  3. Hi Dutchie, did not intend to go this far, just got abit side tracked. Reagards Richard
  4. Hi Don thanks for looking in. Reagards Richard
  5. Have not posted for a while so and Mark yes I have been told that I'am insane and also thanks Motley. Have been working on the tailplane still, added some ribs and added the channels to hold them in place, made the tail elevator lever arm, brackets extra, just finished making to little wheels and bracket so that the cable will not hit the front spare. Well until next time hope you enjoy. Regards Richard
  6. Hi Sean, thanks for looking in again on my ongoing build and I am glad you like what you see, have not been doing to much modelling due to being very busy at work. But anyway I have done one end part of the tailplane which was a case of shear frustration, it started with the drawings which does not show to much and I was getting stuck with how it went together, so I looked on the web then I found a picture which showed alot of detail and this sure helped me in how to make. Made some frames same way as the round metal shape because I could see that they where press out of sheet metal, so I made three blocks out of the wood shape I made for the round skin part, and then heat shrunk to the molds. ( just love this trick John showed on his model) got to add quite a bit of detail still, but I think it is close to what I see. Again until next ongoing post hope you enjoy, If I do not get to post before Christmas, I do hope everyone has a very good Christmas and New Year and all be safe. Regards Richard
  7. Hi Tony, I used .005" brass, sheared to size, scribed brake lines and bent it in a hold and fold, since then I found where I could buy .001" and .003" brass shim and could have got them looking a lot better. Regards Richard
  8. Quote! Step up your game , I don't think Oliver you have to do that, I have watched your excellent build all the way through on this site and the other, but thanks for the very nice compliment. Regards Richard
  9. Thanks again John, thought your name was Nobby opps sorry about that, your little dodges came in real handy, and thanks for your kind words. Regards Richard
  10. So now I have finished off the main structure of the tailplane, made all the brackets to mount to the main frame, added the holes so that the wire will go to elevators and elevator trim flaps, and then bent some .003" for the fairing strips which go on the main spares for elevator. Now I can start making the ribs etc etc. Hope you enjoy. Regards Richard
  11. Been plugging away at the tailplane, and I was wondering how I would replicate the round metal leading edge, so I have been watching Nobby build his model and he showed how he did his canopy using a heat gun. So Nobby I have learnt how to do it thanks. I made a shape as per the drawings I have put it in the vise, made a small holding block just I bit bigger than the shape, CA the plastic to the holding block heated up and pushed it down on the shape, tried .005" plastic to thin, same as .010", tried .020" which was to thick and then got what I wanted with 015". More to follow, Regards Richard
  12. Hi FZ6, not sure what your name is?? but thanks again for your kinf words. Regards Richard
  13. Thank you Ezio, Saw that I put to of the same picture opps, here is the one I should have put. Regards Richard
  14. Finished of all the spar part of the tailplane and have glued them to the brackets I made, still have some brackets to fit in but that will be for the next post. Until next time. Regards Richard
  15. Hi Mac, I have attached some pictures of what tools I use, got some hand tools from my Grandma who was a jeweller and rest I have collected. This is shear/brake which I can cut .003" shim with no roll over Next picture is what I use to cut tube I had been working on wooden ships, but having a break and I bought this Turbo carver so I was at the dentist and I asked if he had any small drill bits which he did not use, so he said yes he has and he gave them to me, this small tool has 400,000 rpm, so I use it to file the brass shim, works realy well. Then last picture is all the books I have collected on the Hurri Hope this helps, Regards Richard
