  1. @keefr22 Top spot.. I used to own one of the 53 ever made, and ran the Porsche register - collecting details of the surviving 49 cars from around the world. I had this for 9 years, getting right into the whole Porsche /sport at scene... But it was a mid life crisis (and early too !). If you want help or info on Porkas, only too happy to help. Cheers Steve
  2. Thanks everyone, I'll give italeri a tweak to see if they will spring for a new canopy.. I cannot recall using cynoacrolate but I must have done, because I've never experience this on any other canopy... Where do I get the remover from ? Thanks Steve
  3. So many hobbies... so little time !

  4. EDIT - OF course it should be YF 22 (doh)... but I cannot edit the title ========================================================== Hi there. Moderators... please move if this is posted in the wrong section. A couple of years back, I built a YF22A and for the first time ever, the canopy fogged almost immediately - even with no exposure to sunlight - shame as I superdetailed the cockpit (as much as I cold anyhow !) after I built it. A few questions please ? How to get the old canopy off ? Assuming I cannot de-fog, I will need a new canopy. Now, for the life of me, I cannot recall who made the model ! It's not a bad kit in 1:72 but nothing springs to mind I do know I have an Italeri F22A in the loft ready for construction so I know it's not them... Any help - on either subject - really appreciated Thanks Steve
  5. Love this model - the rust looks very authentic and the weathering is not too heavy. I'm just about to make a WW1 Male tank (having just read an incredible book about the very first tank corp). Might I ask where you purchased the kit from ? Rgds Steve
  6. Looking at the upper wing paint scheme on the 747-400, it looks (from your images) as one plain colour - is that right ? My memory of the 747 upper wing surface is that it has lots of different shades of metal... where you working from the instructions or researched material on the ANA paint scheme ? Thanks Steve
  7. Sorry - I completely forgot to check this forum prior to the visit... I'm sure I remember a massive long line of aircraft (I particularly like the BOAC display with the VC10 !) but not sure who I actually spoke with. I didn't even think to bring a kit ! - that would have been sensible eh ? Next up, is an Arado 196 then I may (gulp) if I get the courage, start the marine jumbo.... I may ask for help though and well, you did offer ! Cheers Steve
  8. If I may be so rude, how much did you part for the Marine Jumbo ? I was at SMW and got totally lost in the event (It's been 10 years since I went to the last one)... my, how standards have moved on ! - awe inspiring.
  9. That is a stunning kit. - I'm extremely impressed and as mentioned, the weathering looks perfect. FYI, I'm in the very privelidged position of working for the company that has just acquired the old GE (Ex Smiths, and ex Boulton Paul) factory in Wolverhampton. We've had it just over a year now and the factory has all the trademarks of an old facility where you can sense history in the making Interestingly in the factory grounds (although I have yet to visit it) is the Boulton Paul Museum. Loads of people in the company are historians of "matters Boulton Paul" and when I go to make my BPD, I'm hoping to gain access to as much data as I can from the kind folks that now work for us. Brilliant skills and excellent people. Libor - coming to the model, is the MPM kit good to make from the box or does it need lots of work and add ons ? rgds Steve
  10. Hi there and thanks for dropping in Im about to start building an Arado 196 - an old Airfix Kit - where they suggest M3 (dark green) and Matt Olive green. Humbrol have given me a chart with Airfix to Humbrol equivalents but Olive green is not listed but they do show this:- M21 Matt Light Olive Hu:86 Anyone have any clues ? Thanks if so Steve
  11. Oh my oh my... I absolutely LOVE this. The Tempest and Typhoon are my favourite aircraft by a country mile. Having met Roland Beaumont (RIP) and gotten about 20 books on these 2 planes, to see this diorama just brings my imagination to life. What a terrific build, outstanding standards and something you are (rightly) to be proud of. Love it... love it Steve
  12. That's brilliant. the kind Of help I'm going to need is totally "silly" - what order to paint what.. how to mask complex nacelles / fin / wings (it's here where I struggled on the last JAL 747-400). I'm not a totally inexperienced modeller but want these to either look perfect or.. not at all. I'm based nr cheltenham and will be @ the IPMS show this sunday Cheers for the advice w.r.t. decals...
  13. OK, loft raided... here are the pictures. First up, the Marine Jumbo, And now, the Disney on Tour I'd be genuinely interested what people think I ought to do...
  14. Good evening / morning all. In my collection, and dating back from the early 90's, I picked up a Hasegawa model (or 2) direct from Japan - At the time, I used to work for Mitsubishi Electric and spent a long time out there on multiple occasions.. Whilst out there, not only did I see the real thing (It's blue and looks like a giant whale !), but I also saw a model in downtown Nagoya. I've never seen this model since, and the kit is entirely structured in Japanese. I also have another 747 - called "Disney On tour"... with incredible decals from Hasegawa. You can imagine the quality. I've never made a civil airliner before, but I did try once, (a JAL 747-400) but it never got finished as I got confused about how to mask and in what order I needed to paint what parts !. I'd love to see these models complete, but for some reason, feel I'm not ever going to get round to it. It would be a shame not to do something with them more constructive. (excuse the pun !), so, my questions to this forum.... 1) If I started, could anyone help me make them ? - I'm not a novice model maker, but only want to finish them if I can do them justice. 2) They are exceedingly rare (at least, I suspect them to be) and perhaps I ought to move them on to a more deserving person / group - or at least swap them 3) Has anyone got an idea of value ? 4) Are there any resources on this forum to help with Airliner build ? Thoughts appreciated... Pictures to follow (just popping into the loft to take some snaps of them) Rgds Steve
  15. That is SWEET. All sorts of emotions... but mainly sheer admiration (and a touch of envy !)
  16. Hi there. Unusual shape and a great model. For some reason, some of those pictures remind me the b/w Flash Gordon episodes. Nice one. Thanks for posting.
  17. I don't use stretched sprue, but something far more authentic - namely I take a piece of cable, strip out some copper strands, flatten them with a ruler on my chopping board, and then superglue. I find it's thinner, no matches, and no need to paint !. In this case, I think it needs a quick tighten. Thanks anyhow.
  18. Many thanks for such comments Eric You capture my dilema well. Modelmaking is all about the fun and the result - and not always (for me, yet) about 100% authenticity. I'm a kid at heart and have huge excitement at reliving my childhood times - building kits and just admiring them. Of course, we all strive to get "better" but seeing some of the standards from the people on this forum, I realise that these people are at a completely different level of professionalism. I love to be inspired and let's be real, creating something out of kits sure works for most of us !
  19. Man alive... I think that super detailing takes on a new meaning when you have a kit like this ! Steve
  20. Really nice to see 3 Lightnings at the same time. As mentioned, I'm far from "practised" in this art and have much to learn so when I see models like this, I'm always impressed. However, I still think I make it harder on myself by picking kits that are low cost / readily available rather than accurate.... (always a trade off). Is the Matchbox kit much better than the airfix ?
  21. Those roundels are interesting.... I've never seen those on a Tempest. Very "clean" looking build.... like the finish !
  22. That looks exceptional. How did you do the oil staining ?
