  1. Built out of the box apart from the addition of a lead foil seat harness. Not a great kit, seems to have missed the quality control department on it's way to the retail shelves but I'm quite pleased with the result. Si.
  2. Thanks for your kind comments. The Revell kit flatters to deceive, looks good in the box but the parts lack 'crispness' the fit isn't great either, nearly binned it a couple of times but beat it into submission in the end! There are known issues with the size of the wheels and the shape of the spinners (not a big deal in my opinion unless you stand it next to a Tamia one). The kit feels like it missed out the quality control department on it's rushed way to the model shop shelves.
  3. Recently finished, this was built straight from the box using kit decals. As expected this went together without a hitch (I built it alongside a 'new tool' Revell Mosquito which by comparison was a complete nightmare!). I tried to get some tone into the finish by using a very dark grey and adding lighter grey highlights and black lowlights, not obvious from the photos but it did help break things up a bit. Si.
  4. Thanks for you kind comments. Silver pencils will be available from any art material shop (or a Hobbtycraft type store). I used a 'Berol Verithin' which is not too soft. You can also get watersoluble versions which mean that a wet finger will remove any mistakes. Si.
  5. Recently finished, this is the old revell kit. I added a harness, spacers to the wheels to make them thicker and I took off all the rivits and re-scribed the panel lines. The kit decals were so old they were cracked so I used aftermarket, I appreciate the late mark of Zero may be wrong for this particular aircraft which is in earlier colours . . hey ho! A good excuse to go a bit OTT on the chipped paintwork, all applied with a silver pencil. Si.
  6. Very nice, like you say, you can't have too many Spits. Si.
  7. The Revell decal options are all different, you get: Mk22 No.73 Sqn, Malta 1948 Mk22 No.613 Sqn 1949 Mk24 No.80 Sqn Hong kong 1951 All a/c grey/green schemes. Si.
  8. Thanks for your kind comments . . . Each spot was hand painted with a fine line airbrush, took two sessions as I was beginning to go boss eyed! Si.
  9. Just completed. This one went together well considering the age of the kit, nothing added it's all out of the box. I kept weathering to a minimum as I didn't have any good reference as to how the type 'dirtied up' ! Hope you like it. Si.
  10. It will flatten out eventually, CA will be much harder than your usual filler so you can't be timid with the sandpaper. Using the sanding sticks would be best, will keep the sandpaper on the raised surface rather than sanding away the surrounding plastic. If you find that you still have some raised edges it could be that there is an area between your supa glue and and the surrounding plastic that is not flush, it may be best to fill this area with more CA rather than try to sand everything down to the lower level (hope this makes sence, easier to do than describe!). Si.
  11. I'm building one of these at the moment and would make the following observation . . . The kit is a bit of a dog. I've not used any after market stuff, and I accept at face value that the outline shape may be very accurate. As a kit however it was a surprising dissapointment to me, I've built the new tool Revell 1/32 Phantom and Hunter, both were excellent, crisp mouldings that fitted together well, I expected the Typhoon to be of the same standard but it most certainly is not. Surface detail is to be fair not bad, the panel lines are nice and crisp however some of the parts are not and there was a surprising amount of flash on my example. Fit of parts is in places appauling, the airbrake and leading edge slats for example, not a problem if modelled open but try to have them closed and be prepared to spent a fair amount of time filling, sanding and re-scribing. There are comments above about the intakes and it would seem that the same lack of thought by Revell applies to other parts of this kit. I can't quite understand what has happened here, this model (and also the new 1/48 mostquio, which has the same 'feel' to it) seemed to appear on the market with little notice, did Revell rush these into production without sufficient time on development?, I have to say it feels like it. Unfortunatly we are not spoilt for choice, the kit looks OK in the box but I would advise you lower your expectations before you reach for the glue! Si.
  12. Thought I was seeing things, glad I'm not the only one . . . Si.
  13. Thank you Joachim Good point well presented, how do I get it moved? Simon.
  14. Thanks for your kind comments guys. The base Xtracolor shades were X112 (non faded) Olive Drab over X133 Nutral Grey, I then lightened the upper surface colour and mottled some over at random to break up the monotone a bit. Taking off and re-scribing the raised detail works wonders for these older kits, here's a Revell 1/32 Hurricane where I did the same a little while ago. Si.
  15. Just finished this one, it's pretty much out of the box apart from removing all the raised surface detail and re-scribing. Finished in Xtracolor enamels with a variety of shading and wash effects. Si.
  16. Very nice, love the P-51 and you've done a great job. Si.
  17. I've had moisture getting past a trap before. Could be that you have condensation in the hose, might be worth taking the hose off and sticking it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days to make sure it's dry. Si.
