Thanks Pete, appreciate your comments! I still can't get over how long ago it was!! Tim

Sorry Bill! I can't recall my sources at the time, although my father was feeding me all sorts of stuff from the Tech library at Filton at the time; my goodness, it was 38 years ago.... sheesh, where did that all go? There is loads more available now on the TSR2, as well as real plastic kits, and I have to say I'd love to tackle it again, but in a bigger scale, probably 32nd. maybe one day...... Tim

Don't use the drawings from that article, they are complete botox. I should know, I drew them...... Use the ones by Barry Hygate in his book about British Experimental Jets, much better. Tim Perry

Hi Ken, Oh yes, I most certainly was! As was everyone else reading this thread! Never mind, I'll make amends for everyone by carving some wooden deck chairs for my model Titanic, and wile away Sunday afternoon rearranging them..... Tim

Sorry, someone building plastic kits, and worrying about their hobbies carbon footprint? Sounds like someone should be taking up whittling instead...... Tim

In defence of the Supermarine Swift

I seem to recall Ken Duffey doing a neat Swift conversion in Scale Models International, which looked pretty good at the time! Tim Perry -
Coo, imagine a bucket of sunshine trying to swap ends in its own length, at 600 knots, two feet under your aircraft's belly..... Tim

Question on the Hasegawa 1/48 Spey Phantom
wunwinglow replied to Jennings Heilig's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Definitely agree with your comments about the recce pod. I'm going back to basics for my 32 scale design..... Tim -
Might that not be because they are of the same subject? I should expect them to be EXTREMELY similar if both design houses did a proper job..... Of course, if they both exhibit identical errors, that might mean something else; perhaps they both used the same, flawed, published plans! Tim

I bought both at the show as well. Very pleased, excellent inspiration! Tim

I am now looking at all their recent 1:72 releases as potential smoke screens for 24th scale kits! BIG Gnat, anyone? Or a 24th Swordfish?! i saw the kit yesterday, and it looks awesome. I didn't make 24th scale models. But then 6 years ago I didn't make/buy World War 1 kits in 32nd, and now I have a cupboard full of WNW and Roden. Sometimes the manufacturers come up with game changing products, and For me at least, Airfix have done just that with this fantastic kit. I'm in!, Tim Perry

Hi Rob, thanks for your message. I'll be honest, I am now of an age when I don't remember a lot of things! but if anyone recognises me at Telford, please introduce yourself! Last year Esmond George and I spent 5 minutes shoulder to shoulder studying the wonders on the HPH table, before we both looked at each other and said simultaneously 'I know you!! ' So it isn't just me! Tim

I am so glad I work nearby Antics in Bristol. There are still some traditional LHS's in the world, but not many. I am just wondering how many contributors to this thread have any experience of working in a model shop, instead of just being a customer? Me? Oh, well, since you asked, Assistant Manager of the Bristol branch of Beatties, 1977 to 1981. Things were different then...... Tim Perry

Come on guys, make your minds up! I need to know if I am going to correct the decal sheet artwork! See you at Telford hopefully, Tim

Troy, the most easily spotted issue with that B-17 kit is the fuselage contours ahead of the windscreen. This has been made as if all the cross sections are circular, when in fact they are slightly flattened down on the top. Not much, but the error makes the wind screen panels a bit shallow. On a smaller scale it would hardly notice, and be an easy fix, but on such a large model it will need a bit more work to fix; if you think it is worth the effort. But even unfixed, the kit is still undoubtably a Flying Fortress...... Tim

Hi Mark, What a coincidence, I was only reading your article last night, as I recently picked up a Revell Mk 88 to convert to an AH7! I should be at Telford so hopefully see you there ! Tim Perry

Excellent timing this topic, as I just started work on a 32nd one! Is there any published info on the stenciling overall for the Sea Hawk? I have a couple of AP documents on CD, but nothing included on the stencilling. I'll post some pics as I progress, but here are a couple of the mould for the drop tanks, and the first vacformings. Hey, gotta start somewhere!! Tim P

New Revell 1/32 BAe Hawk available now - photos

I'm just casting up some CBLS 100s, and awaiting the decals. I'll keep you posted.... Tim Perry -
There were two armour piercing heads, the 25lb one illustrated above, and a longer, 'double ogive' design. These were both used against submarines from Swordfish and others. They discovered that these rockets would travel on an upwards curving path through water, so if the pilot aimed short slightly, the rocket would still strike the hull of the vessel, below the waterline. The double ogive curve improved this performance. Both heads were solid steel, painted black and marked as mentioned above. I will look out the pages from the AP when I get home! Tim Perry
