  1. What others have said. It was the first 1:72 C-47, but that's about all it's got going for it. Funny shape, clunky detail, the undercarriage is a joke. About the only thing they did get close to right was that it was covered in rivets, just like the original! It's more a collector's item than anything else these days.
  2. Agree with Mike above - get the MPM DC-2, it's much, much less grief! If you REALLY, DESPERATELY want to do the conversion, pm me your email and I'll send you a scan of an article published in my club's magazine many years ago (pre the MPM release) on one modeller's take on the exercise. Be warned, it's not simple! Otherwise, as everyone has said, there are any god's quantity of great DC-3/C-47 schemes out there to use on your kit. Me, I'm a bit partial to the Australian ones, but then I'm a bit one eyed on that!
  3. Thanks, Mike - that's a start! It's a lot more than I had ... I believe that we are to see the Revell MR.3 later this year - I want to get this exercise out of the way before it happens!
  4. I'm working on a Revell (Frog) Shackleton MR.3 kit, doing as close as I can get to the full monty. It will be finished as WR972 in its white/grey/blue RAE scheme. Most of the rivets have gone and most of the surface detail rescribed, making a vast improvement, and I've now moved to adding detail. The undercarriage wells are pretty much a blank canvas. I can probably copy enough from the Airfix MR.2 to get by with the main wells, but the nose well is another story. The Revell kit doesn't look right, but I haven't found anything to back that up. There are lots of pictures on the 'net, including the walkrounds here. Beaucoup pictures of the front of the nose leg, but not much else. It seems that no-one has got up close and personal with the insides of the well. Can any kind soul please point me at something - anything! - that will assist?

  8. And the neighbours might have something to say about the noise, not to mention what might happen with an engine failure ... And, Pete, you'd probably need at least 45 minutes reserve fuel - AFAIK that's an ICAO requirement, wherever you might be (except possibly the planet Mars, which as we all know is another story again!).

  10. Yes, kudos to Airfix for making good the deficiencies, but it remains the case that mistakes like these SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING IN THE FIRST PLACE!! My biggest peeve with the "new" Airfix is that their quality control seems to have gone AWL.

  12. The Academy one isn't bad, if you can find it. The issue with the wings is simply too much dihedral, which can be cured by inserting a 10 thou shim in the upper joint during assembly.

  16. I'd do it as a Guinea one, but then I'm a bit biased ... As far as I can determine the GAT/AAT logos were a dark blue. I have a drawing somewhere of the Guinea Airways logo (the compass rose and clock face with the company name in an arrowhead) - pm me your email if you'd like a copy.   17. I'm sure they'd sell a few down here - the Beaufort did a lot of work for the RAAF during the Second Great Unpleasantness, and there's a great deal of interest in the restoration currently under way in Queensland.
