  1. Right...December already. Progress has been slow. The drawings as reproduced in my copy of Mr. Lambert's book are, in some cases, a bit distorted I assume due to the reproduction process so lots of re-drawing and more than a little trial and error - lots. anyway, this is as far as I am at this point. Haven't been able to spend long periods working on it due to my back giving me grief about sitting here hunched over bits of plastic... Ta for looking
  2. Thanks, neither had I till I stumbled across them looking for references on one of the Viking age faerings
  3. This is myOselvar Faering, from a kit by Modell-Tec in Turkey. Great little kit of a very attractive boat. Built this earlier this year, failed to do a WIP, but it's a pretty straight forward build comes with wood for oars and mast. decided to leave off the mast, at least for now as I'm a bit short of space... Thanks for looking
  4. Absolutely agree! I swore I wouldn't buy any more kits...till I looked at their website and saw that they do a T class. Always thought them fascinating and very menacing from the front. *Sigh* there goes some more money. Incidentally, PB10, in Rob's photo looks a lot like PRU blue, a bit faded maybe.
  5. Look at the work of Bob Wilson - Merchant Ship miniatures that are gorgeous, he's done a few e-books on how - in detail. His Blog is here He's also got a Facebook page. His techniques are mostly quite basic and approachable. Bob says he doesn't do kits because he hasn't the patience....
  6. Wow! I'm having huge problems with getting the Bridge right on my MTB - a CAD program would be a useful tool. Mind you the cost and time to learn it? At which point someone could look at how much plastic card and time - weeks - I've spent muddling about, and say DUH!
  7. The rebuild is progressing, slowly. Found that the drawings in Lambert and Ross' book have some discrepancies between bridge drawings, which may be due to the process of getting them into the book and on one page, the 15" scale only has 14 divisions.... Couldn't figure out why things weren't looking right till I really looked.. duh. Anyway, I've redone the cavitation plates, rudders and props, courtesy of Courageous - thanks again! dome finessing needed there... I even remembered that weird little keel forward The bridge is a lot of work , with a lot of detail needing to be added. These later boats had the addition of an armoured bulkhead at the rear of the bridge, with a door, yet to be added. The storage units either side gave me a bit of trouble trying to hold them together while sticking the bits. They also need more tidying. Oh, and before I forget, does anyone know a decent substitute for G45? That's about it for the moment. More soon... Thanks for looking
  8. A descendent of this sort of thing. The Norwegians sold lots of them to the Islands - This one is an Oselvar Faering from a kit by Turk Modell.
  9. Zulu? As in Scottish Zulu? Big Double enders?
  10. Yup, My stash is more or less non-existent now. Small bungalow so spaceto display anything is at an end. Dunno, unlesssomething happens that I just can't resist... There's a slaver turned yacht - Xarifa - that I'd love to scratchbuild, but.
  11. Anyway on with the work. Today I spent a couple of hours making a cradle that I could clamp into the old keel clamp I have. It should really help as it will bring the model up to eye level! Having it clamped also means I can add the bits, rudder and props that hang off the bottom, without them getting damaged. As you can see, I have completely removed the bridge etc. in the hopes of doing a better job of them this time around...
  12. Your build is a great help as my 1/72nd Vosper is going very slowly... Originally I worked out the bridge in 'Sketchup' which allowed me to cut the bits. Those drawings are long gone, and, as I discovered not in scale...I would love to be working in a larger scale but I wanted to have a Vosper in scale with the other 1/72nd coastal craft I have - all from kits. This build is brilliant!
  13. Just come to this build - a bit late... Beautiful work. It's not a type I'm familiar with so, even cooler!
  14. Well, yes and no. As I mentioned Arthritis in those big joints at the base of the thumb are getting a bit painful lately, I keep sort of forgetting that I'm getting on and have had a somewhat active life and mustn't be surprised when old injuries come to say hello. That and, I think in common with quite a few, Covid - which I caught in September has had some long term effects too, like concentration.
  15. Well, the years slip away and I realise that if I don't finish this very soon, the arthritis in me thumbs will win... The model suffered badly being in storage so long so I'm having to rebuild the superstructure. I'm finding that the bridge drawings in Lambert's book don't all agree with each other about size, so I've spent way too much time on the computer coming up with compromise drawings that might produce something decent...to my eye, anyway. Now I need to reload a few pics back on page one...
  16. Love it! Really nicely done indeed. British subs are rather neglected by model companies which is a shame.
  17. Deleted - This is the maritime WIP area
  18. Thanks, ran across them the other day - ordered a set. Awaiting Aries seats and a set of tyres...
  19. Morning can anyone tell me what grey(s) were used on late Jags? and are there any 1/48th scale low vis marking decals available? Cheers and a somewhat belated Happy New Year!
  20. Really nice, wish I could find a kit that wasn't priced through the roof. I built one, but it didn't survive the house move from Portugal...
  21. A remarkable kit! Never heard of thim till now. You're build is very beautiful!
  22. Really nice work - and incredibly neat...Mine, at a similar stage is, untidy
