  1. Hepworth poly pipe cleaning fluid from plumbing factor (PTS). Stinks and probably sends you loopy, but quite effective. Doesn't work on very small pieces too well (seems a little brittle) , but on seams is the business.
  2. All remaining pieces done; Phantom Phinished. Thanks for looking
  3. Managed to pull it all in. Build thread such as it is is here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71206. Pics aren't that great, but this is related to the celebratory wine. Compared to some others this isn't great, but it's the best Ive ever done/ Thaks to all you guys for the inspiration
  4. I've realised I've made a dreadful mistake about the end date -its two days sooner hat I thought it was! This week has thus seen feverish activity (amazing what you can do in 5 days when you did nothing for months!) Anyhoo, weapons loadout is done, droptanks done, canopy done, decals done (excuse the upside down shot I'm letting the Klear dry). I had had to miss some of the decals on the tailplane since they disintegrated before my eyes, but I hope this still counts. All thats left to do is put it all together. Will be ready for inspection by 24:00hrs tonite
  5. Been a while since any real attention paid to this. However I've got the inakes fully on now (no pic of this). I still cant get rid of all the filler marks on one side where I had a 2mm gap at the rear of the intake but hey ho sanding in the sun with beer is good. The sharp eyed mignt notice The arrestor hook is missing: I didn't like the gapthe moulding left between body and hook (more a deep panel line) so I cut the structure off and opened the hook up a bit. Hopefully when I stick it back any gaps left will look more natural. I've painted some crude panel lines on to give the impression to the rest of the family that a) progress is being made I know what I am doing Next on the agenda are the tail fins. I've removed some historically inaccurate features (I can'tinmagine these birds were originally made by McDonnell with 'Revell 1979 Made in China' stamped on them. There are also three large injector marks or similar on each fin to be filled.
  6. Have made little progress this week due to late work nights. However I have got the tub in the fuselage (don't seem to be any positive locating features that get it in the right place). I've also stuck both sides together. The big thing for me this week was that I used a bottle of plastic pipe cleaning fluid (as the jar of liquid poly was overturned all over the cutting mat - where have the markings gone!!). Merchant looked very suspicios when I asked if contained Butanone or MEK!! Once you get used to the stink I have to say I am impressed with how well it worked - less marking than Liquid Poly on areas where excess glue goes and very strong joins with almost no seam lines; the plastic doesnt melt too deep so there is little ooze, just enough.. A steal at ~£8 250ml compared to normal Poly.
  7. I'm building this one too and mine had some warping on the upper fuselage and just didn't fit on the lower (one half was bigger than the other). I've lost the raised detail in these areas, and I'm taking an approach of 'viewed from a distance of 1' at true scale I wouldn't see the rivets so why worry too much, get it done'. Which is my way of saying I dont have the time/skill/patience to do anything about it. I do pay homage to those of you with the skill to retify this though.
  8. Great looking cockpit - I'm working in same scale as you and yours looks really nice (you have managed to bring the detail and realism right out)
  9. OK, cockpit put together, not too much special done here aside from making the fit a little better and filling sone areas where a thin moulding had left holes in the bang seats. Panels given a coat of grey black, dry brushed for a little contrast and a little detail picked out in red and yellow (hey I sound like I know what I'm doing even though I haven't used these techniques before!). You can't see the dials very well but I added a little Reflective Green to Kleer and put a drop on the large dials to look like radar scopes Only extra item I added was the pilots air hoses I made from two small bits of guitar wire -I did paint them both at the same time in what I though was the same colour but they look different; obviously one of the pilots changed his at some time..... Sorry about picture quality
  10. Kit just arrived and it's yer basic Revell 1/48 F4-C/D Going to build it as is (although not sure which option) as I enjoy the build more than the accuracy so I beg forgiveness in advance. Have never worked in this scale before so lets see how it goes. EDIT: Apols to Bexy, for not posting sprue shots earlier (hope these are OK but I can't get the camera to focus on anything closer) - I wasn't in the same location as the kit, and was getting over exited! As you can see is all washed and ready to go. (The Brasso is to clean those CDs you can see.....)
  11. I need a bit of a push to actually finish anything at the moment and this could be it. I don't have an F4 at the moment, (I buy on impulse and build) but can make an excuse as to why it would be essential to get one (or possible two). I've never taken part in a group build before so is completely OOB acceptable (I have neither the patience or skill for much more)?
  12. Thanks for advice and feedback. I'm in a slightly better mood today, so will give all the suggestions a go and keep plugging at it......
  13. Finally got round to using the airbrush I was given as a present a month ago (got airbrush, compressor with tank, etc, nice gift!). I think I had been putting it off since I've used a brush since I was 8 and can get quite good results. But feeling obliged I gave it a bash on a kit I have had hanging about unpainted and it was little more than an unmitigated disaster! I'm trying to paint Vallejo White Grey Model Color over Halfords Grey primer, and I on one side it look like I have been applying whitewash with a broom and the other looks like it may take something like another 100 coats to actually change colour. Paint as thinned about 60/40 water/paint. I've never seen anyone use an airbrush before - from brushes I'm used to seeing a slight change in colour with each coat, but with A/B I don't know what I expect to see. When I as misting coats I could see light refelcting off a wet surface but when it dried there was no change at all so I upped the paint flow a bit (which I could then see, but was obviously too close etc). Although I've only used it once I'm wondering how to persevere as at this point it looks like I would be better and quicker not bothering and sticking with the trusty brush. My technique is plainly extremely poor, but what level of coverage should I be aiming for as a start?
