  1. F-82G night fighters were definitely in on the start of the Korean war with a couple air to air kills. They were based at Johnson Air Base in Japan and were tasked with the air defense of Japan. They were all that was available in the beginning. Part of that effort was the 339th FIS(AW) Squadron in all black with some nifty plane names. Caracal released a decal sheet in 1/48 covering many of them, and included one natural aluminum F-82E from the 27th FEW at Kearney Air Base in my home state of Nebraska. I've been collecting 339th info for years and was able to provide that research for Caracal's sheet. Starfighter Models has an example of a 27th F-82E on one of their 1/72 sheets. I remain hopeful that Caracal's sheet will eventually make it to a 1/72 release. Way too many Monogram kits out there to ignore. I theorize that the F-82 wings weren't puttied like the WWII cousins. The large number of the early types in NMF leads me in that direction, and if NA did strip the ZC primer off before delivery then putty probably was never in play. Color photos of black night fighters with worn paint also aren't showing any hint of yellow in the wear spots, just bare aluminum. Remember that even though the F-82 had Mustang in its name, the two aircraft are only similar in shape. Almost everything was different including the wings and the airfoil. I look at putty as pre war tech. Best of luck on your project and I look forward to seeing more F-82s built. I'm 95% done with the Modelsvit kit. Rick L.
  2. No experience with that, but I have used the Eduard BRASSIN AGM-12C and it was terrific. Easy assembly, and easy to use decals. Highly detailed. Perhaps less fussy than 3D printed parts. Rick L.
  3. I would hold out for one of the Two Bob's sheets. Besides being fresher and more likely to be usable than the old Microscale sheet, TB corrected the biggest error on the Microscale sheet which was the mirror image of the Utah state outline and snake head on opposite sides of the vertical stabilizer. It should not be a mirror image. Very odd of Microscale to just flip the artwork. Rick L.
  4. International Air Power Review, Volume 18. No drawings, but a decent article. Rick L.
  5. Your work is fabulous, Carl. As always! You're a virtual factory with these little kits. I certaily look forward to more! Rick L.
  6. Carl, I don't look in here as often as I should! That is a great build, and you are correct about everything. It's a wonderful little kit to build, the Starfighter decals are just perfect in everyway, and more people should try one of these old classics. They are small but impressive as you have proven with yours. I like that you rigged the control surfaces on the tail. I chickened out with mine, probably because I was tired and just wanted to be done. Good for you. I plan a full out re-do of this kit with about every detail I can think of, especially a full cockpit if I can find one of Starfighters sets (which seem rather elusive), or scratchbuilt bits if I can find enough interior photos. There's room for alot of potential in this little kit, actually. I had trouble with the prop tip decals too, so I used some from Yellow Wing Decals instead. They worked very nice. I even foiled the prop like you did. Here's a look at my build from back in May: http://agapemodels.com/?p=3908 You did a better job of photography too! Now that this is on the shelf, I think it needs the P-6E as a companion. Rick L.
  7. Props are definitely handed and narrow at the root. I really think the cockpits on night fighters should be black, but I don't have color photos of them. from my collection via William Weimar. Rick L.
  8. I'm late to the party I know, but this is the paint I would use: Testors/Pollyscale acrylic Blue #23. http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?it...&Submit3=Go Don't know of its availability in the UK. It should be as close a match as you can get out of a bottle without custom mixing. Rick L.
