  1. Thanks Jon and Nigel - I think . It's a dinky little thing isn't it? But fiendishly complex nevertheless. Separately, I've found these images of a larger scale flying model, which I may use as the basis of my (even more simplified), engine additions. It's a little easier to get your head round! Cheers Cliff
  2. Sorry to hear that you've had some paint issues DAG, but from here you would never know. The paintwork looks beautiful! Cliff
  3. Thanks again for your support guys - it is appreciated Rodders, to be honest I haven't even thought about the engine yet but I'll probably try to add some extra detail to the Airfix parts (rather than starting again from scratch). The PE fret will be of no help as it contains no parts for the engine, nor the rotorhead. Should be fun though. Big fanfares now as I have fixed the vacformed canopy in place It was surprisingly easy in fact. Fortunately, the cabin's rear bulkhead 'spoons' very nicely into the curves of the canopy, so as a first stage I stuck the two parts together using 5-minute epoxy (thanks to Nigel's build thread for reminding me that this is really useful stuff!). I scratched the canopy surface first, to help the bond. The part of the canopy that I have glued, is in reality metal and so will be painted over in due course. Once the glue had hardened, I glued the bulkhead into the fuselage (again using a blob of epoxy), and voila! The canopy is firmly fixed to the fuselage without any need to try to glue its edge down. I will need to seal the canopy edge (I'll run some thinned PVA into the joint), but this is not required to provide any strength. Result! Cheers Cliff
  4. Like you Paul, I really enjoyed this kit when I was a nipper. In fact nostalgia was the only reason that I bought this particular kit, when it came up for grabs at a Model Club charity auction a few years ago. I think that a decade separates the original release of your Whirlwind kit (1956) and the Scout (1966), and I'm pleased to say that things appear to have improved a lot over that time . Thanks Nigel. I must say that having ditched most of the transparancies, the remainder of the kit/PE has so far been an absolute pleasure to build I'm continuing to 'make steady progress', with the interior now finished. There's a little more tidying up to do on the fuselage, then a good vacuum out before fitting the new canopy. It will be nice to reach that landmark. Cheers Cliff
  5. Hi Tim and welcome to the GB (particularly as it is your first ). Cliff
  6. I'm very impressed Adrian - you've done a fantastic job on lifting this old kit to another level, using only basic materials. I love the face painting too! Cliff
  7. That's a beautiful result At Sea. Congratulations on the build and for completing your first Group Build! Don't forget to post some piccies in the GB's Gallery too Cheers Cliff
  8. Masking can be laborious, but this definitely looks like it is going to be a stunner when finished! Cliff
  9. It's nice to see this one moving ahead again Craig Cliff
  10. Looking great Nigel Are you by any chance a dentist in your day job? Cheers Cliff
  11. Thanks Smudge. You'll be pleased to see that I've now added a bit of padding front and rear (I know I've been a bit stingey!). I've also put a small coaming over the IP. Cheers Cliff
  12. Thanks Nigel. I've actually bitten the bullet and made up the seats this morning. Here is the sequence. 1) Main structure: 2) 3D spar across seat back: 3) Side frame: 4) Front legs: 5) and finally in-situ! Overall, it went OK. The PE was relatively soft and curved easily around the shaft of a small screwdriver. Next up will be some cushions... Cliff
  13. Morning all. I've been tied up for the last two weeks on a project that I needed to get finished for Cosford. That's now completed though, so I'm back onto the Scout Mostly I have been working on the cockpit PE, during the course of which it dawned on me that the kit and PE only provide for a single pilot's position. I'm pretty sure though that my chosen subject is dual control, so that's another inaccuracy that we can add to the list! Next up, I will be making up the PE seats - something I'm slightly nervous about, as one section needs to be rolled into a curve (something I always struggle with ). Cheers Cliff
  14. As you say, some incredible detail there for a 1/72 scale kit, and beautifully put together too. Cliff
  15. Looking very colourful (which is good!). Cliff
  16. Ambitious plans! Cliff
  17. This continues to look absolutely fantastic. Top marks! Cliff
  18. Seems like I won't now be away on hols, so this sounds like it might be fun. I'm thinking maybe something 'resinous' - instant stick, not too many parts, simple colour scheme etc. etc. Cliff
  19. An opportunity to dust off my old Airfix Hs.126 and cobble together some suitable decals . I'm thinking maybe 'in flight' too, so that I can use the crew figures....
  20. Looks like we might be in for a colourful treat Rodders? Cliff
