I decided to make my own replacement Enterprise saucer top. Glad I did, it's turned out ok. Here are some pictures of the process. Here's the starting point. I had the side profile laser cut out of MDF and four out of acrylic. I glued them down to a base board I made out four wedge components . The next stage was to fill in the gaps with insulation foam ( great stuff ).

As stated in the title this will be a build log of the giant DeBoer Hulls Refit. I got this in a partial trade deal. As it's a expensive ( $1600 +) It's not within my price range. Here's the parts layout. The top of the saucer was badly damaged and warped so I contacted DeBoers about this and was told the because I didn't buy it originally from them they would charge me $266 for a new one ( plus postage and whatever the grabbing customs pigs would want ) Here's some pictures of the original. For a kit this expensive I thought it was pretty bad.

Finished it now. Just got to come up with a fancy base for it. Any ideas ?

More damage and wear and tear done.

I've got soooo much to build Mike that I've got to stop somewhere It's a good idea but these (did R2 as well) two were meant to be quick just straight from the box builds and I've already spent too much time on them.

More work done on this. I replaced the wires on the feet with actual wire instead of the supplied parts. Thought I'd do some damaged wiring as well. More wear and tear.

Here's some progress

I thought I'd do something a bit different with this one. Stay tuned for some pictures

.I've just acquired a DeBoers Enterprise but the top of the saucer is warped. I'm going to try and fix it but I Think there will be just as much work involved to build a new one. I need to find someone on here to CAD me a new one so I can get it 3D printed. It's only the top of the saucer. Anyone up for the job ?

The latest off my workbench. Nearly finished the Demoness. Nice to paint something that's not green and massive

Is it possible to put small videos into forum posts ?
-
It's from a company called RetroKit, part of their RetroSF range.

A little video, I thought this was just going to be a quick slap together after the mammoth Bird Of Prey project but I ended up putting a bit too much work in on such a small model. But I enjoyed it. Just got to think up a base now http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x232/Neo-uk/th_old%20tripod_zps9mggsxnl.mp4

It's done now. Still not decided what to do with the feet yet though. Here's some pictures

Thought I'd just add some subtle weathering. I also scribed some panel line/ vents detail just to make the top a bit more technical looking.

Done the legs. It's quite thick solder, some old stuff so its sturdy enough. Next bit I wanted to change was the capture basket. I scratchbuilt a new one using real metal mesh I had in the spares drawer. The photo shows the one from the kit on the left, the mesh I found in the middle and my new one.
-
Well the lighting plan worked Next I looked into cleaning up the leg castings but thought it would be quicker and better to have no joins in the middle if I remade them using one continual piece of solder.

Funny you should ask. Well after a bit of soldering involving a couple of leds and some brass pins, I ended up with this. I picked green because martians are usually associated with that colour in popular culture.
-
I recently got one of these RetroSF kits of a Martian Tripod design from an old book (apparently quite close to Well's description ). These RetroSF kits are great, they're very detail for their size even more so than some in kits in larger scales. I'm also in the process of doing the Snowspeeder they do but I'll make another thread on that. Kit contents consist of resin and white metal parts. Well I wanted to make mine a bit different (as usual) So first thing I did was attack the "cabin" bit with the lathe.

Here's a few pics of it finished and a light test.

I hope I can remember which wire goes where when I come to put the lid on
