  1. Good morning all, hope everyone is well. Season's greetings. I am hoping someone might be able to help me with the world of 1/72nd scale Westland Wessex helicopters. I'm totally unfamiliar with what's available in this area but I know there are many knowledgeable folk on here. I recently spotted an ideal candidate for a little diorama and since I have an old Frog 1/72nd scale Wessex hidden in the depths of my stash thought it might re-kindle some modelling mojo. I think the area that is likely to require most work would be the rotor heads, main and tail. Are there any manufacturers on the market who offer resin/photoetch upgrades for a 72nd scale Wessex? The cockpit isn't a huge concern as the photos I've taken show the glazing covered by condensation so much of the visibility into the cockpit will be obscured. Likewise the rear deck and cabin interior. The full sized aircraft has a tarp conveniently draped over those areas. I have searched t'interweb and seen some upgraded resin wheels so may treat myself to a set of those. Also, the aircraft I would like to depict is in a bit of a sorry state at present which is exactly what appeals to me. Recreating the aged appearance of the markings would be easier with masks so if anyone knows of suitable Royal Navy marking masks that could help create the roundels and numbers I'd be interested in those too. Here's a snap of the candidate in all her patinated glory😍 Thanks for any help you're able to offer. Cheers.🎄
  2. Is that a paper book? I wouldn't mind seeing a few pages from that if you have the time. Cheers and a very Happy Christmas.
  3. So many fabulous photographs. The light at Duxford can be a real challenge but you've coped beautifully. Like many others I'm glad you included the atmospheric and moody misty shots. All too often aircraft photography can feel a smidge clinical. Those images show artistic flair too. One that caught my eye among the myriad classy pics is the Sioux dripping with condensation. The bubble is perfectly delineated by the trickling water. Smashing. Isn't the Whirlwind such a cheery Helicopter? 😄 Thanks for sharing these rather lovely captures.
  4. Nice rivets bro' 😀 Question: What's with the serials in the last pic? They look like they've been hand drawn. It should help folk from worrying too much about getting everything on their models perfectly square, even and neat looking though. 😉
  5. I fully understand why the B-One is your favourite aircraft Shaun, it's a beautiful machine and that's for sure. This is an amazing set of photos, thanks so much for sharing them. Thoroughly enjoyed each and every one. Looking at the burner shots I can almost feel the rumble in my tummy. That last shot shows just how sleek the B-1 is. Brilliant.
  6. Hi and good to see you back on your big Spit Charlie. Nice work on the wingtip lights. You got me thinking, do you think it might be possible to use a cylinder of clear sprue of the correct diameter in place of the solid plastic cylinder? 🤔 I wondered if the sprue was rounded at the end it might be possible to colour it then mask it to spray cammo over it? What do you think? Nice work enhancing the radiators and carb intake. That sort of attention to detail is sure to pay dividends in the long run. Keep at it. Cheers
  7. Gotta love Orkz. there's so much scope for weathering and imagination. Looking forward to your next update. Keep at it. 👍
  8. Hello all, Would anyone know of a source for the DH emblems in 1/32nd scale please? I will probably require some for the struts of a TigerMoth at some point. I plan on modelling a privately owned example that has varnished wooden struts with the DH emblem as decals. Thanks for any help. Cheers.
  9. Probably best to leave it as is Peter but linking back to this thread from your build is a great idea, thanks. I'm eagerly looking forward to you getting started. Stay safe.
  10. Just so we're clear, I didn't ask for the thread to be moved folks. I can understand the reason and agree that we have mentioned aircraft from other eras but I'm not unhappy about the way things have gone. Tbh, buried down here in chat I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last we see of this thread. It took me all my time to find it and I was looking for it😆 Thanks for everyone's contributions and good luck with your builds guys. Cheers.
  11. Do you mean the 1/32nd scale Revell Hawk Si? If so I think you'll enjoy it. @224 PeterPeter, good to hear your thoughts on the kit. I will keep an eye out for your WIP thread.
  12. Lovely result Bill. That turned out beautifully. Well done. For the balance weights, could you dip some wire into CA adhesive a couple of times until you get a hard blob of glue on the tip? I think that's what I did from memory🤔
  13. Looking forward to it Peter. I treated myself to the Airscale IP and a set of Montex masks that WIP suggested earlier in the thread. I'm not sure if I shall get the resin seat but the joystick looks much better than the kit part. Please begin ASAP so that I can crib your ideas. Cheers.
  14. Superb additions Arnaud, well done. You are obviously a big fan of Rafale. perhaps you could produce an entire model for sale one day? No-one makes Rafale in 1/32nd scale. 🤔 😉 👍
  15. Superb work as usual Peter. Fascinating to watch. Re: the fabric wing covering. Isn't there a decal manufacturer that makes fabric/canvas effect decals? *Edit: I was thinking of Aviattic https://www.aviattic.co.uk/linen-effect--wood-grain-decals.html Scroll down for clear version for use over silver. Since these are 1/32nd scale I'm not sure if these would suit what you're considering Peter.
  16. @Graham BoakBoak. Thanks Graham. I wonder if it could be possible to combine the engines? Perhaps the Spitfire gearbox could be persuaded to fit the Mossie engine if the latter is significantly better than the Spitfire engine?🤔 @Work In Progress Thanks WIP. I seem to recall the Mustang engine being better than the Spitfire when I built them way back when. My reasoning for considering the Mossie engine was that there might be more of them languishing in folk's stash 🤭
  17. Hello folks, May I pick everyone’s collective brains please? I am thinking out loud really but wondered whether the two RR Merlins included with the Mosquito kit are much better than the ones in the older Spitfire or Hurricane kits? For those who have both kits, what would you say? Also, if as I expect, they are better could one be swapped into a Hurricane or Spitfire to jazz the old kits up a bit? I imagine that they aren’t the same mark of engine but do they differ enormously? A plan formed in my tiny mind and I’m wondering how feasible it might be? What are everyone’s thoughts on the matter? *Edit: Perhaps it’s already been done and if so there might be a build thread that you know of? Please could you share a link if you have one? Thanks. Cheers
  18. You lucky blighter. 😃 This is a great idea. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all comes along.
  19. Bingo! That's just the ticket WIP. Many thanks for the link. 👍
