  1. Very nice. Funnily enough I built a Spitfire for PSS. I have a Brian Taylor 1a underway (planning to use an electric, motor) but as it's too cold in the garage I turn to plastic. I am looking forward to seeing this progress, keep up the good work.
  2. Interesting choice and a great kit, I say that only because of the memories of getting my first one as a kid back in the early 70's, I just love the kit and frankly it doesn't matter how many rivets or how much flash.......... As regards the other scale models you build it looks like you are into a bit of PSS from your Avatar.
  3. And very nice they are too Ordered direct from the US the parts arrived last week.
  4. Wow, that's lovely and knowing how fiddly these small biplanes can be you have my admiration.
  5. I think there is a big difference between just slating a kit and doing what you are doing. You have identified areas that need attention and are doing something about it. It serves as inspiration to the rest of us to see what can be done with a bit of imagination, some research and a large helping of skill. What you are doing here is hugely inspirational and I can't wait to see this finished. Cracking build. You are definitely not paranoid. Andrew
  6. Just ordered a set, I intend to use some spare 5 spoke wheels from a PCM kit so the damage to my wallet isn't too bad. Might have a go at correcting the shape as Derek Bradshaw has here on LSP.
  7. There is a website called Scale Soaring UK that has some interesting info and downloadable pictures. It is aimed at the R/C side of modelling and is well worth a look. I have a 1/4 scale kit for the 2B that I hope to get around to one day.
  8. This is going on a bit and there are pages and pages in the Typhoon in Stock thread on this. Yeah, mine was just the same, replacement just the same but I don't see that it needed a dedicated thread.
  9. This might explain why. "Flightradar24 has a network of more than 3,000 ADS-B receivers around the world that receives plane and flight information from aircraft with ADS-B transponders and sends this information to our servers. Due to the high frequency used (1090 MHz) the coverage from each receiver is limited to about 250-400 km (150-250 miles) in all directions depending on location. The farther away from the receiver an aircraft is flying, the higher it must fly to be covered by the receiver. The distance limit makes it very hard to get ADS-B coverage over oceans."
  10. And that's just what modelling is all about and that's why I have the Freightdog conversion, come to think of it I have Graham's update too, very nice it is.
  11. Has to be a yes. Injection preferred but would buy a resin kit.
  12. The panel lines have put me off buying this kit, I purchased the Sunderland and I don't like the style, it makes the model look too much like a caricature to me. Yes I could fill the panel lines but frankly that is too much work on a £40 kit. I have the Airfix Stirling and WEM photo etch which is so much more appealing for my tastes.
  13. I have heard, from my LMS, that Airfix have upped the price to retailers yet kept the RRP so reducing the dealers margin. Might explain why the discounted price has risen.
  14. No need to shout I merely pointed out that I felt the 3mm you initially quoted was excessive, at least on a comparative basis with the other kits I have and when the formers are fitted the difference between the kits is only about 1mm. Unfortunately I am unable to draw comparison with the real thing and your kits might be different to mine Now, I can also see that the top of the cowl appears to be pinched in and the forward part of the fuselage in the area of the fuel tank is not smoothly rounded, as you have pointed out, I can also see that the entry door is a little short and the wheel hubs dish out. Overall I think this is an excellent kit although not perfect, if it were the price would be considerably more, however none of the issues are major by any stretch of the imagination and something any adventurous modeller would easily overcome. If not, in the fullness of time correction sets will no doubt become available for those that desire them.
  15. …..and then measure the Tamiya kit with the fuselage formers fitted……..
  16. Mine isn't. I have just taken a pair of callipers to the Revell, Trumpeter and Tamiya kits, there is less than 1mm external difference in width between the 3 of them, the cockpit opening is within .5mm
  17. Looks damn good to me……and for the money
  18. You said "All about the bucks people, pure and simple." I merely pointed out that expensive kits do sell, highlighting that it is not just about the money. I then queried what is expensive, a Tamiya Spit at £100+ or a HK B-17 at £250?……. if this is your benchmark of expensive, depends on your POV ……. but hey, there are many more expensive kits out there I could have mentioned. Thankfully for us it is not just about the cost and that there are manufacturers out there willing to take a gamble to produce kits that folks like me want.
  19. Count me in for a Halifax. …and a Stirling
  20. It might get tiring for you, personally I would like to see some 1/48 RAF bombers. If it's all about the bucks why do some expensive kits out there sell? What's expensive? Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire? HK B-17? They are selling because forum members and others are buying them
  21. I agree too and would be a customer. I already have the FM Halifax and Hampden, Tamiya Lancaster, Trumpeter Wellington, Sanger Stirling, Halifax and Manchester. HK Models see there is a demand for 1/32 models of the B-17 and Lancaster which, due to the physical size and cost would surely be a very limited market and more limited than the market for 1/48 RAF bombers.
  22. It's a no brainer…..I really don't want to grow up….EVER. This is fantastic, a superb build. I am as excited as I was when I bought my first Airfix "Super Kit", a new red stripe Spitfire 1a back in…...
  23. Quite right…….and…..if it were not for the 14 pages of discussion we would each go out and make up our own mind based upon our own individual research and would not be swayed on the opinion of others. For me, I will look at the kit when it hits the shops and if I like I will buy, if I don't I may still buy because of the subject, depending on my assessment of my value for my money.
