  1. Was it in "Dh 88 The Story of De Havilland's Racing Comets" by David Ogilvy? G-ACSS is pictured in RAF markings as K-5084. The last picture of the 3 is after its final landing in the hands of the RAF when it suffered undercarriage problems and was damaged. Andrew
  2. Mine is 148 of 150 and I've had for for about 12 months. Has to be Black Magic, don't know why but just has. Lovely kit and because of this thread it is now on the workbench. Such an iconic aeroplane I don't want to build it and yet I do.......aargh!! Andrew
  3. As it is a wooden racing aeroplane it will have a very smooth surface so not too much in the way of panel line detail etc. I have the Aerotech 1/32 one and apart from cooling louvres and a few access panels that's about it. Andrew
  4. I've just cancelled my subscription. I have been a Traplet subscriber for many years with their radio control model mags, when I was subscribing to 4 I found that some articles would appear in all 4 mags, not good value for money. I don't want a magazine diluted with armour as my only interest is aviation. They combined two mags years ago and didn't work for me. Soap box back in the cupboard now. Andrew
  5. Thanks for the kind comments guys. I am aware of drooped elevators on parked Spitfires but decided not to cut the kit elevators as this is the first limited run multimedia kit I have built I wanted it very much OOB. I also spotted the way the door hangs just before I glued the door to this Spit, didn't get it quite right. The model still needs the red patches over the gun ports painting, forgot that one. I figure in the dust and heat of the Med the paint would be rather faded and worn, a look I would love to emulate but don't have the confidence or knowledge to try it on this kit.....yet. With only a few builds under my belt since returning to this hobby my plan is to return to one of my earlier builds to start the weathering process. It's a learning curve. Andrew
  6. This is the first model I have posted, yes it is another Spitfire but the PCM IXc in the markings of Lt John Fawcett of the 309 Fighter Squadron, 31 Fighter Group based in Italy 1944. I have enjoyed building this kit immensely despite the poor fit in places, the gap under the nose has been well documented. I also had difficulty getting the rear canopy to fit. The undercarriage legs were replaced with those from my Tamiya Mk IX and the cannon barrels are from the Master range. It was my intention to weather this but I quite like it as it is, I hope you do too. Andrew
  7. Supposed to be a difficult build, all twisted and warped, I got mine out....and then put it away! Nicely finished, keep'em coming. Andrew
  8. Interesting comments, I have bought on ebay and find that sometimes I get a deal that I am chuffed with and then I go a bit silly and pay a little more, it's that the must have bug gets to you but I know what I am doing, or think I do I find as a fequent visitor to my not so local but friendly "local" model shop I can get a deal that I am happy with, I don't pay postage and a get a cup of coffee. Downside is it's an hours drive and the upside is it is close to my dad. My favoured option. However it is an expensive hobby, or can be. I am staggered by how much kits have increased in the 2 years since I came back into the hobby. I also play with R/C models and a set of retracts for a 1/5 scale P 51 is around £500 plus the radio gear, plus an engine, covering, paint and that does not include the kit!! I guess you play at the level you are comfortable with with whatever you do. Personally there will always be kits I aspire to but will never buy because I don't see the value in them. Andrew
  9. Thanks for the input. I have spotted the flashed over holes for the ID lights in the wing and fuselage. It looks like a fairly straightforward conversion. Andrew
  10. I want to build my Tamiya Spitfire Mk IX as a Mk VIII. You may be wondering why with the advent of the Tamiya Mk VIII, well I have the PCM IXc that I am finishing as Lady Ellen III and I don't want 2 Mk IX Spits....or do I? Anyhow I also have the Grey Nurse decals from the controversial Aero Imageworks that I want to use. I could buy the Mk VIII kit but that is a little extravagant so a simple conversion seems the logical option. My references tell me that the VIII initially entered service with the early rudder but the majority were fitted with the pointed rudder, the C wing was standard and again early aircraft had the high altitude wing. The Volkes Aero-Vee filter was fitted as standard and of course the retracting tail wheel. The aircraft I wish to model has the pointed rudder and standard wing. So as far as I can tell the only modification I need to make to the kit is to fit a retracting tail wheel. Does anyone know differently? Andrew
  11. Andrew I suggest you re read this. Your last sentence has an edge to it as I read it, Bills earlier post was offering help. Andrew
  12. OMG I saw your Harrier build, awesome. Can't wait to see this finished. I'll just look at mine from time to time and wish!! Andrew
  13. Great climb out shot, the prop looks very effective. Andrew
  14. Superb. I love these big bombers. I read all the reviews and bought one myself, seeing one built so well gives me a little more confidence to start mine. Andrew
  15. Def open the box. Have a good look but leave the bags intact. Put it away. Dream about what an awesome job I'm going to make Andrew
  16. Has to be Airfix with those rivets!!! Love it. Brings back memories of my first Superkit.....when they were new!! Andrew
  17. Fab. I love the close up of the engine. Keep up the good work. Andrew
  18. Affinity Models in Stoke on Trent had one when I was in there a couple of weeks ago. Andrew
  19. Very nice and a different scheme. I've a lot of admiration for Freddie Laker. Wasn't the 707 rolled on a test flight? I seem to remember seeing a picture from the cabin window of a 707 and the world was the wrong way up. Andrew
  20. I bought mine from Graham at Relish Models, he stocks Belcher. Andrew
  21. Try this link over on LSP, looks very interesting. http://forum.largescaleplanes.com/index.php?showtopic=29826 Andrew
  22. Thanks Edgar. It's a start. I'm trying to dig up some more details but but they seem elusive. Andrew
