  1. If you want some chassis inspiration this might be of help: http://modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/in...&thread=116
  2. Absolutely superb mate. The rust and paint effect is perfection. I have an o-ring from that tank that I snarfed out of one of the wheel-hubs. Tee hee.
  3. I'm extremely impressed with every part of this build, especially the cockpit, but feel the engine was seriously neglected. I guess if the plane is intended to be displayed 'buttoned up' it doesn't matter though.
  4. I'm not impressed with the absense of primary decals (cockpit placards) in a kit which cost £100.
  5. Oh rats. I thought I'd nailed them. :shithappens: Thanks for pointing it out, I'll fix them. Such a shame though, they're going to look painfully bland.
  6. The weathering in the panel-lines and the exhaust soot are superb. All the soot needs is to be completely matt. The real problem is the longer you work on something and look at it the less good it looks, even when it's 100%.
  7. I've ordered a bunch of wire and brass pipey stuff, soon as I have it I'll start on the cockpit. The engine could have done with it too, it'd look less scrappy. Thanks for the kind words chaps.
  8. The problem I find with rendering scale objects as 'clean' or of 'normal useage' is they end up looking like Fisher-Price toys. If one looks into a real cockpit (for example), of a plane in normal 'kept clean' service, one will see signs of wear and tear that are simply not realistically re-producable in scale. And even if they were they'd be invisible to the naked eye. Whereas an engine (the above example) that looks like it's been used to power a fair-ground ride and serviced by chimps, everything stands out real easy. No, it's not realistic, no Spitfire engine would be allowed to get like that unless it was a post-war exhibit in a Soviet museum in some backwater town. But hey-ho, I like eye-candy and that's what it is.
  9. I've been feeling Spitfire stirrings. The box has been reclaimed from a dusty shelf and I'm girding my loins. The engine needs a bit more work, then I'll be starting on the cockpit. But not until after the weekend; it's my birthday tomorrow and I'm getting bladdered tonight and probably tomorrow night as well. Cool story bro.

  11. I went over an entire shiny StuG with the XDFF and a brush last night and it's transformed it from a 3-year eyesore into a joy to behold. I thinned the stuff with some white spirits from my brush-cleaning jar, it even got some Mig pigment mixed up in it, still did it's job perfectly.
  12. Wut?! Rude? I answered your question and the "wow" was aimed at the amount of white misting. There was nothing malign intended at all. But anyway, the Xtracolor XDFF arrived this morning and I've just tested it on the old banger, with a brush...WOH! 100% matt, as matt (indistinguishable) from the matt paint next to it. Dried in minutes after being worked in hard with the brush (to get as thin a coat as possible). And a hell of a lot in the bottle for less than two sterlings. I thank you gentlemen for all your various input, it has been an interesting voyage of discovery and very little money wasted overall. With a totally satisfactory outcome. Suh-weet!
