  1. I was lucky enough to visit U534 many years ago before it was cut in half. An absolutely amazing experience
  2. When I was little growing up in Hong Kong in the 70's there were lots of little Japanese market model kits which I've never seen in the UK. The great thing was they had play value. I remember model battleships (mostly Japanese WWII) with tiny batteries and motors and mini subs with of all things, elastic band driven propellers. One that sticks in my mind was a model about 6" long of the Seaview from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Looking at your model it cries out for a few little modern motors.
  3. Me too...I am aboutvyo start a PzIII and not sure of the best colour grey
  4. As a little kid I remember dad (RN) taking me to HMS Tamar in Hong Kong to see a WWII cruiser. I can't remember if it was Blake or Tiger but I do remember being amazed at the size of it compared to the more usual minehunters and frigates, and I couldn't come to terms with the helicopter hanger on the back. It all seemed "wrong" and not the cruiser I was expecting.
  5. I remember that as such a nice easy kit to build (weren't all Matchbox) which gave a very impressive model. Happy days.
  6. Wifey and I have visited HMS Warrior and SS Great Britain and both thought it was a shame there was no available model of either of theses amazing ships. (ps - Great Britain is worth a visit with the addition of a great museum on Brunel)
  7. Brilliant - I went to Widey Tech School and wavered under the flight path πŸ˜€
  8. So looking forward to seeing this finished. Dad had a pale blue and rust HA Delux. He later upgraded to a Super Delux in two tone dark green, pale green side strip and with rust included. Actually nice simple little cars for their day.
  9. I remember building this in the 70's when I was a kid. One of the first I painted. Because of the simple grey and black scheme it went well. I was chuffed and I thought it was a great model, so I bought the Matchbox Zero and another great model and simple scheme.
  10. I made this when I was about 8 in the 1970's. It was a complete mess and I remember it squatting on its undercarriage as I hadn't allowed the glue to dry. I think mine was mouded in the famous Airfix silver.
  11. I built this as an original Frog kit n the 70's when I was little. First kit I painted properly. It was so striking in black and silver and so very very big compared to my Airfix and Matchbox Spitfires and Focke Wolfs. Looking forward to seeing this one done.
  12. Fantastic! I need one to go with my radio control version πŸ˜€
  13. Great model and gets over fiddly figure painting for an aircraft in flight πŸ™‚ I like the prop blur too.
  14. ... she was looking good in October last year at Kemble πŸ™‚ Unfortunately I can't seem to post a pic 😞
  15. The Fury was such a simple kit of a wonderful looking plane - we miss Matchbox
  16. I have flying models smaller than that! Good luck to anyone who buys that and I hope the divorce settlement isn't too harsh πŸ˜‰
  17. Mine too.....looking forward to this one being completed πŸ™‚
  18. .....my M201 and kept as a genuine French one although t had a 1943 chassis and engine. Mine was in French war reserve stock until 2000. Unusually for an M201 it had been updated with a roll bar and safety belts (I removed as the roll bar made the M201 top heavy); it had the then current French markings but it had never had indicators fitted. Many M201's lost the little blackout sidelights which were replaced by large orange indicator lenses. (Will try and post a pick later...)
  19. We had a Riley Kestrel 1300 (mk2). Beautiful car and quick for its day. Leather and walnut, a more sporting and less opulent car than the Vanden Plas. The Riley rusted, failed it's MOT and we put the twin carb engine in a mk2 Austin 1300, my first car. My friends all laughed as they had Escorts and Capris and I had "granny car". BUT - they couldn't keep up with me on twisty roads and they were always being stopped by Devon & Cornwall Constabulary's finest while my teal blue 1300 with the strategically placed tartan picnic rug on the rear parcel shelf just sailed on past. Happy 'innocent' days πŸ™‚
