  1. Thanks for your advice Shall try that tomorrow Im going to buy a bottle everytime I go to asda Floors? why would anyone waste klear on floors?
  2. Hiya Thanks for pointing those out, however I forgot to mention that all of the canopy is just placed on atm, so there will be no gaps when affixed With regards to the centre tank, Its a really weird fit, and that was the best that I could get it, I dont have any filler and there are no local shops, so had to make do And on the undercarriage, yes I do seem to have missed off some parts James
  3. And its done! Few coats of klear and the decals have settled much better For a bristley stick, I dont think the paints turned out too badly. If you want to see any particular parts please just ask Ill let the pics do the talking Hope you like it Its taken me about 2 weeks on/off building in the evenings Thanks for all the interest, james
  4. Hey guys, nearly completed now just finishing touches to be done I've certainly learnt s lot whilst building this aeroplane and have really enjoyed it too :)thanks simon, I tried the canopy trick and must say it works wonders klear is brilliant stuff. I shall post some pictures of it complete tomorrow, I hope it is good enough for the standards of this forum James
  5. I've Got some artists acrylics? I've heard about using these somhow? Thanks, James
  6. It's something I used on my seafire, still experimenting, but it's basically thinned enamels lol just wash over and wipe off excess, I'm going to try on one of my old models first before trying it on this James
  7. Great advice guys Got some klear today, so am reading up on how to use it and am going to apply a coat or two over the decals, then I am going to use an enamel wash to enhance the panel lines Thanks, James
  8. Lesson well and truly learnt i'm going to just live with it I guess thought I could get away with it because it was semi gloss :/ oh well , nearly finished now really enjoyed building this, has kept me sane over the last few days whilst I haven't been able to get out in the car thanks for the interest and help, made me feel very welcome on the forum James
  9. Aaaargh! Silvering! And lots of it, what do I do !? Help please
  10. Thanks for all your help guys Got some more done yesterday, couldnt wait to get some klear as I had been stuck inside allll day So started on the decalling, shall put a coat on afterwards though Shall post pics later James
  11. Bleedin' 'eck Tom! There was a desk under there!
  12. Thanks simon, I really dont want to spend too much on a compressor as I am an infrequent modeller, yet I want to achieve the best result I can when I do make something. Can I get anything decent for £50 ish? http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Clearance/...0/sd3215/p85620 I have found this, but dont know what to look for when buying. Oh, and Canopy closed or open? James

    Preshading

Is an airbrush essential for this? Thanks, James
  14. Can you not use gold foil the same way you apply aluminium foil onto aircraft to simulate bare metal?
  15. So, Ive finished the canopy, and am going to start work on the undercarriage soon Also am going to clear a shelf for it specially Canopy closed or open? Pics to come later, Thanks for watching, James
  16. Thanks Hazza, they look much better. As my brush is bottom fed does it require a certain type of compressor? As some on that site state they are ideal for gravity fed and give no indication of performance with ones like mine. James

    Varnishing

Tom, pick me up some Klear if you can get it please and ill pay you when i next see you
  18. Aaargh! just tried to put down some of the gold on the wing and got what I could only describe as a latexy/plastic coat of paint, that would peel off again in one piece How did I miss this gap? Hear that sound? its the mind boggling. Starting to look like the box art a bit more now A lot of touching up and some corrections to be done, Im happy with how its going together and am really enjoying this build up to now I am going to do some work on the undercarriage in a short while, and possibly paint the canopy after finishing masking earlier And to anyone that may know: How much could I get a reasonable compressor for (How about this? http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...-compressors-2), and after just looking at my airbrush, the trigger only likes to be either on or off? I'm meant to have varying levels arent I? All help is appreciated, Thanks, James
  19. hehe, I may do sometime in the near future, gonna have some spare cash soon so moneys not too big of a problem as I already have the airbrush itself (badger 200 i think, was given to me by my uncle), just need a compressor now The biggest problem is persuading my parents that we have the space for a booth etc and persuading my dad that i wouldnt get any paint near his motorbike in the garage
  20. Yeah I know, there is a gap there mate, just maybe isn't too clear on the photo
  21. I was round at Tom's (vulcanboy's) House the other day, and he showed me his 1/72 vulcan he had attempted to spray with the revell set. More or less ruined a good model Dont touch it with multiple barge poles affixed to each other.
  22. yeah, I have heard of that and should look into sourcing some Thanks
  23. Thanks Tony, but I need to do a gloss coat to apply the decals So how can i do that with the revell stuff?
  24. Got a little bit more work done: darkened the exhausts as to reflect the majority of Phantom photos I have seen; Painted the silver underneath the horzontal stabs coming away from the exhaust; masked part of the canopy and fitted the intakes (absolute pain they were ) More to come over the next few days (bit of touching up to be done still) Canopy just placed on, im not happy about the visible joint between the intake and the rest of the fuse The best finish I can get from a bristley stick The lighting does exagerate the slight variations a lot, quite happy with the gold's finish though James
