  1. Because my sister had the laptop at the time Her and her friends falling out on facebook.... I hate that site lol
  2. Haha, with engineering in school, the most we have done is drawing isometric cubes lol, anything else Ive learnt on my own Just tried another drawing, this time a phantom, again from memory so not particularly accurate (just a rough sketch to try techniques) but trust me to make it too big for the paper! But i kept drawing anyway James
  3. Haha, ideas come to us at the strangest of times dont they Just tried some of the techniques you said about simplifying the object, Ive only done simple things but I can see what you mean from them Ive got a piece of wood that I could use as a drawing board, it was part of a large bookshelf but I removed one shelf to fit my 1/32 phantom on it I only have A5 and A4 paper atm, but can get some larger stuff Im going to speak to my engineering teacher about perspective drawing and see what tips he can give me So, where can I buy detail paper from? Thanks again, James
  4. Wow! Thanks for all the info Dan Really appreciate the effort to help Heres an example of some of the techniques about shading I have learnt up to now put into practice Not particularly good, but its a start Ill give some of the techniques that you have mentioned a go Dan, and post the results Thanks again, James
  5. Thanks Shall have a look on amazon etc for a copy of that book
  6. Hey guys, little bit of an update, bought myself a 130gsm paper a5 sketchpad, and "How to draw everything" by Barrington Barber Ive just been doing some of the excercises in the book So far so good I do agree, the best place to start is always at the beginning
  7. well, that shut me up the model shown above is just superb. Oob though, with no extras the kit just doesnt cut it for me Not bad for a freebie though
  8. Hi guys, just had a look through this section of the forum for the first time and must say that standard of work is just outstanding! Anyway, it inspired me to try drawing some aircraft for myself. Here is a sketch of a phantom i did earlier, I did this from memory so it may be a bit out of proportion :/ The big problem areas are the left wing tip, and the rear just dont seem to 'fit', has anybody got any tips or hints on how to get the perspective right? Thanks, James
  9. thanks guys If you were wondering, the piece of paper was a test to see how a base like that would look if it covered the entire shelf, what do you all reckon?
  10. Hi guys, jsut thought I would post a few pics of the 1/72nd Matchbox f-4m phantom I have made I was given this kit at cadets and did my best with what can only be described as 'a vague resemblance' of a phantom Nevertheless, its not turned out too badly Next to its foreign younger cousin Thanks for looking, James
  11. Just build the rest of it and add the other bits later Dont give up Tom! we dont want another shelfed model do we? Ive done 2 in 3 weeks whereas yours never get finished! I wanna see this one done and proudly displayed on top of the tele or are you making way for your tsr's?... Keep going mate
  12. I knew I shouldnt have ventured from the aircraft section! so, what techniques would you recommend for this sort of tank?
  13. Not that dirty mate Dirty it up in what way?
  14. Thankyou opinions on the finish? I made this when I was about 8 and left it bare plastic, did some washes the other day
  15. Hi guys, silly question but i know nothing about tanks at all, and I made this some years ago, recently tried some subtle weathering on it and was wondering what exactly it was. Ill post some pics of the weathering I tried to do to see what y'all think Thanks, James
  16. Well guys, I've done it in black with silver on the fronts of the wings, up to the panel line that runs down the entire span because it will most likely end up in the display case at our squadron Ive done it satin black, and am trying to stencil 723 Wigan on the side, but in matt black, so its quite subtle shall see how it turns out James
  17. I made mine completely out of box (not even any filler) and would say that the worst gap is 1mm at most on the underside where the cockpit section mates with the aft part of the plane. I found this site:http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=553039 with a few more pics of the plane James
  18. Hi guys, silly question, but if I do a plane as a "what if" scheme, does that therefore grant me complete artistic freedom over the paint scheme of the aircraft? I'm only asking because I got given a 1/72 matchbox phantom (awful plastic isnt it?) and want to do it black, silver and maybe have our squadrons number, 723, on the side. Now, i know that the US navy did the black bunny version which looks similar, so its not too far from scale, but would have to be RAF of course If anyone can just clear up what is generally acceptable with regards to this then it would be a great help Thanks, JAmes
  19. A lousy newspaper put to good use looking nice up to now tom
  20. Looking good mate not as bad as the time i spilt an entire 100ml bottle of thin superglue onto the dining table, tried to rub it of with kitchen roll, got my hand stuck to the kitchen roll and the table, and then when i tried to get it off i took the top layer of varnish or whatever it is off the table! my dad was not happy
  21. It was off Mr. T! you shoulda been at squadron on tuesday it was in the NCO's room
  22. Hi again guys, just a final update on the build added all of the extra parts that i had missed off , but couldnt fix the bottom tank due to the decal being straight underneath it which would have been completely ruined if i attempted to take the tank off Im so happy with how this has turned out Im surprised at how much it looks like the original Thanks for all the interest, and a prosperous year of modelling to all Now im off to make a 1/72 matchbox f4-m I've been given James
  23. Thanks everyone I'm looking into some promodeller wash, may pick up some weathering stuff from games workshop, Im going to see what sorta stuff they stock tomorrow You like your phantoms dont you zero!
  24. Just noticed nearly 1,700 views to this thread Unfourtunately no time to put the last parts on the model tonight Annual inspection at Air Cadets so getting razor sharp creases and gratuitously shiny shoes have to take priority Thanks for all of your help and advice, This has been my most enjoyable build up to now, and having the support of a community really encourages me to do my best James More to come from me soon, Next time I will take more pictures at different parts of the build
