  1. Looking good with paint applied. Colin
  2. Some interesting work going on here. Shame you couldn't obtain the conversion set! Colin
  3. Looking good, I like your diorama. Colin
  4. I made some progress with the observers canopy and side window. I couldn't find suitable clear sheet, so plumbed for 1.5mm Perspex/acrylic sheet. It being more robust than clear styrene sheet. I measured the dims and cut the oiecesusing my trusty jewellers fret saw, it's becoming invaluable! Filed them to fit the openings and superglued in place, I set about filing the pieces to shape. Then a fine sand and polish, I think I have achieved what I set out to do. I'll tint them after final painting. Some fine sanding needed around the canopy etc... Until later, thanks for looking in. Colin
  5. Some of those Frog re-pops really are a challenge. Glad you were able to find a good replacement. Colin
  6. Thanks Adria. The white didn't happen, the two cans of Tamiya I had at the ready were too far gone to usefully spray the Vixen, so instead, I sprayed the odd parts, pylons u/c bay doors drop tanks and Buddy refuel pod. It will have to wait until Monday now. Colin
  7. Looking good. Well, I guess that's what you call 'a disruptive camo pattern'! Colin
  8. A neat collection. I too have gone down the 72nd to 48th route, however, not entirely. I still build a few 72nd models for my FAA collection. I like the weathering on the Wildcat and Spad. Modelling for over sixty years, when this 'fad' with panel line washes and weathering came about, I had my misgivings! Being ex Fleet Air Arm, we used to keep our aircraft very clean. I jokingly made mention, elsewhere that, 'we didn't have time to paint the black lines in the panels'! However, I have just as an experiment given my 72nd Fairey Gannet (see it in the Frog Squad II GB, Boil in the bag Gannet) a panel line wash. I used the Florrey Models brown grime. I'm still to be convinced it's the way to go. We'll se with my 48th Sea King, when I get there. Colin
  9. Ooooh! Great subject. I purchased on a couple of months ago it's a vast improvement over the old Hawk kit. There are some interesting dioramas on the intergoogle, guys have display them. Colin
  10. Now this is going to be an interesting build. Great subject. I built he 1/144th kit a while back and plonked it on a plaster sea base. Tommy Thomason from Tailhook Topics helped out with images of the ROTAG fit aft of the rear doors/hatches. Maybe have a look on his site. Popcorn and comfy chair pulled up for the performance, Colin
  11. Yes, sometimes a heading can be misleading to some. I suppose, it's the way you read it. We came through your town a few years ago, on our way to Cadiz. Then I visit via TV when I watch MotoGP. Looking forward to the finished model. Colin
  12. Many thanks for the praises, as mentioned, it was an enjoyable build. One thing, I forgot to mention is the wing landing lights. I used 3 Second UV clear glue. A drop in each recess and a zap with the UV light. Job done! Colin
  13. Hi Charlie, it's still a nice kit but it need a lot of work to pull it together. I'm now wishing, I'd have kept my Airfix 1/48th kit! Gloss white undersides today, if it stops raining! Colin
  14. Looking good David, those clips on the watertight door looks very impressive. The mast is coming together nicely. Stick with it, you are doing a grand job. Colin
  15. I see, I didn't post the image of the item with the cover, I'll paint it first then show it. The Vixen build has an end date, so need to crack on with it. I was waiting for detail sets and decals to arrive from the UK, these arrived this morning for this and my Gannet COD build. So, I will resume as soon as practicable. HOLD TIGHT Bill... Colin
  16. Hi all, work has been slow on the King. I went online looking for a Haynes manual but at 56 UK Pounds for postage from the US, I balked at that! Len Newman has helped me with some cabin ref photos. Many thanks Len. Missing from the kit is a stowage rack positioned between the radar operators station and the flare rack. I used the large cabin bulkhead from the Mk1 kit option as a guild the the shape of the stowage end panels, the remained was just strips of cut plasticard. I fashioned the cover sheet (not shown) from photocopy paper. There are some other bits o add to the walls and roof, I'll get to them later... I also got he seats assembled and painted. The seat belts are from the Eduard detail set 49-1397. That's all folks, I'm going to concentrate on my Sea Vixen build in the Frog Squad II GB. Colin
  17. I've been away from this build for a while as I was getting the Gannet (see elsewhere in this GB). I finally got all the filling and sand done, lots of places that needed lots of attention! So after fitting the replacement wing fences, which I made from brass shimstock. I used a jewellers fret saw to cut a slot the width of the fence stock. Little filling was required. In the background can be seen the wing fold covers half round plastic rod. I need to adjust the shape of the observers side window. Then finish off the store pylons undercarriage and the store, which include the Buddy refueling pod. As there is no intake or exhaust detail, I'm electing to add the blanking plates Using masking tape to trace the shape f the intakes, I cut two blanks from thin plasticard. The using my modified spring bow compass, I cut two blanks for the exhausts. So, this is where I am this morning. She's in the spray shop for a coat of primer at present. More later... Colin
  18. Well, I finally got the Gannet finished on it's base and mounted. The base made with the aid of a cheapish photo frame and artists Acrylic Gel Medium. Painted with artists acrylics and the addition of an orange SONObuoy, So, calling it done... Really enjoyed this build, thanks for looking in... Colin
  19. A neat start to your build. Interesting input from Andres regarding the differences. It's going to look good on the base. Colin
  20. Neat and quick progress. Not a fan of the big ali triangle. I have a feeling the only reason the Javelin came to be was, an over supply of aluminium. The metal producers plied their story to the government and the Javelin was born! JMTPW. Colin
  21. I'm with you on that Alan, we need whoever purchased ROTORcraft to re release the tail fold and folded MRH. Colin
