  1. Ill take a picture of the rig tomorrow, but basically i tapped 2 clothes pins into the board and a single piece of wire around them and tie it off, this keeps them under tension, then i touch a tiny tiny bit of matt varnish where i want the ring to mount and position it, the 2 threads are close enough the ring pretty much balances and dries almost instantly. once ive positioned all the rings i run a second piece of wire and bring this down on the top of the rings and touch some more glue then I use very fine thread and tie off the ends. ill let you know how i get it onto the ship once ive figured that bit out
  2. Working on the cage antenna rigging, basically fishing line + Micro Rig Ring Rounds, still trying to figure out the best way to transfer this over to the Ship heh
  3. In a show of Solidarity with Don I've just brought the Hasagawa IJN Mikasa so once you've finished your build there will be something ready to Sink it we can have our own mini Russi Japanese war GB hehe
  4. If you like i can come over next weekend and take some pics of it with the lights on
  5. Looks fantastic mate, like i said its the best thing ive seen you do and the weathering is subline i doth my cap to you sir also the photos are pretty awesome now Schnell schnell!
  6. i Humbly submit that this is your best to date Phil, i think the sea is totally spot on, and those wood decks really set the whole thing off fantastically you've convinced me to get one which i will once im back from my travels in feb
  7. I'll remind you of that when you start the PE on the Suvorov looks fantastic Don, would have thought it would be the Germans or Italians who dreamt up a mid-engined aircraft, looking at all that lovely Resin and PE im sure your going to be in heaven detailing that wee beastie till next time
  8. Shes looking great Phil! i think im gonna wait till i see what the Trumpeter offering looks like before i pick one up (and ya know finish a couple of models too heheh) given your experience with this and the Graf Spee how do you think Academy are shaping up against Trumpeter?
  9. ill just leave this here and let the idea start to take root;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:USS_Oreg..._dock,_1898.jpg
  10. well literally dusted off the Hood to get back to it had to secure the ship to the base, but annoyingly the keel had bowed somewhat making it kinda hard to glue down, especially with the extremely delicate awning over the quarterdeck i used a couple of wood screns under 'A' and 'X' Turret which seemed to do the trick, but then the fwd hull seperated from the keel plate :shithappens: so had to find a way to re-glue the hull down without crushing the railings and other deck furniture for the prosecution, exhibit 'A' so anyway once that had dried i added some Acrylic gel medium over the sea base to give it some shine, and better seal the ship to the base, it will dry complely clear so it wont have the white you can see in these pics once dry so hopefully if that all dries ok ill glue the pier down, (im still unsure about how/if i should paint/weather that tho, open to suggstions feels good to be back working on my first love anyway till next time
  11. She is a Tiddily little ship there Don, I have a 1/350 SMS Konig Model in the stash which is almost half the size of HOOD, which just shows how quickly these ships grew into the Dreadnoughts they were. I will say im a little disappointing you wont be doing a waterline for this, i was looking forward to seeing your interpretation of the smoking wreck, but i totally understand, im im sure your 'Floating Cockpit' will truly be something to behold I fully expect ill be learning more from this build than you learnt from mine cheers buddy Andy
  12. NNNNOOOOOOOOoooooo you fool! by bumping this to the top of the page you have shamed me into going back to work on it! bah, there goes my christmas Break (have actually been working on this this week, will post some pictures tomorrow of the base heh)
  13. Yeh im afraid boats do tend to get a bit pricy when you sit and think about it taking my KGV build... Tamiya HMS KGV : £30 KA Wood Deck: about £30 WEM Photoetch: about £25 Metal Barrels: £30 foam board, bog roll, wood: £5 paint: around £10 but the amount of hours of enjoyment i got out of building it, and now of having the finished model was worth every penny you dont even want to know how much ive spent on my HMS HOOD model soo far still cant put a price on the enjoyment....and cheaper than most class A's
  14. I have to say nothing sets off a model quite like a wooden deck, i have used them on all of my ships and think they are worth every penny (especially since i cant paint wood for toffee ) might i also suggest this book http://www.amazon.co.uk/Ship-Models-Kits-A...5226&sr=8-1 might be especially userful if its your first real encounter with the dreaded PE! (oh and has been pointed out WEM are a UK based company ) now if you will excuse me, im going to go enjoy a fine native wine......
  15. in the following sketch, Don shall be played by Rowan Atkinson, and Andyp shall be played by Tom Baker welcome aboard buddy since i seem to be partly responsible for getting you into this mess i look forward to helping you get out of it
  16. Thanks Don and too everyone who voted for me and took part was my first GB and was loads of fun!, some outstanding models made, was pretty hard to settle in the aircraft vote, shout out to smuts for winning the armour vote too Until next time folks!
  17. Assuming i clear a few of the ships off the slipway before March (which i should) I think I might jump in with a 1/350 HMS Warspite

  19. I cant wait to see the Ship started Don if you need any help at all with the sea scape or any details feel free to PM me and ill give you any help i can , will follow that WIP with great interest
  20. They look fantastic don, the effect of the spinning props on the Lighting, the weathering on both i cant wait till you finish the diorama, its going to be epic
  21. i can totally relate don, way back before i started KGV i had almost done an attempt at Hood's rigging, then i went to break off a bit of excess wire, but it was a tad better glued than i thought, a mighty tug and i managed to break and distort the main mast and all the rigging i had managed to achive thus far it took many a deep breath and a LOT of xbox playing to prevent the ship going out the window i have no doubt it will arise phoenix like! keep it up buddy!, looking c'est magnific!
  22. i Shot that was working for LM at the Paris show, it was the last C130J display flight they were going to fly and really wanted some onboard footage, so we got a couple of in car iPhone mounts and stuck them in the cockpit, its actually a composite of 4 different flights (only had the 1 iPhone heh) which shows how well wayne and steve choreographed the flight each time. glad you all liked it
  23. How far advanced can the model be to enter? cos i have one thats like 80% there, but its been 80% for the last year and a half
  24. So guess whos just been volunteered to do the soldering for my Enterprise-D
