  1. Hey guys was just over in the US and had a free day so decided to pop into a couple of local museums and snap some pics, was pretty cool since there were a lot of Aircraft you just don't see over here in the UK Anyway hope you like em
  2. Been fortunate this week to be out at Eglin afb taking photos of the F-35 and the training and maintenance facility, was pretty awesome finally being able to see the aircraft upload including the 3 British Aircraft, BK1, BK2, and BK3 (which I have dubbed Blackadder, Baldrick and Bob) and the Dutch aircraft AN1, cant post everything but they said it was ok to post a selection, so here ya go, hope you like em
  3. Woah, blast from the past lol, glad you liked the build Dave, I posted a bit of a tutorial in the original build thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/75720-1350-hms-king-george-v/ if you want any mre details just ask and ill be happy to answer any questions you have I know, but i wanted to paint the ship in the camo, besides I know she was in refit in June 1944 where she had the Catapult removed and reported to Sydney in July 44 for service with the BPF, ill just argue she was repainted in Sydney after the refit
  4. Just picked up the Trumpeter models at 50% off here http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/sale/trumpeter/?page=2 so thought id pass it on before they went
  5. pretty much finished the construction, ready for Painting now shown here with a 'Pinsky' cast kit
  6. Thought I'd share the progress on my Lawgiver build which i started yesterday Using a HFC GasBB Airsoft Pistol as the base, although the kit is intended to be removable I'm going to glue it together and fill the gaps to give a better finish, also going to get some 'inert' 9mm rounds to fill out the fwd Mag and attempt to light the control panel should be a fun build
  7. The best thing about the Pontos stuff is the brass masts and yards, it makes it a LOT easier when running the rig, still a bit pricey mind, but ive no doubt of the quality Looking forward to the build, had a lot of fun building the KGV kit
  8. as much as i want this (and i REALLY want it) ill wait for the Revell re-box, prices should be much lower, and a few after markets bits will be out by then
  9. Thanks everyone, dont get me wrong, im happy ive finished her, but when you spend that amount of time on the project I can see everything that didn't quite work out how i wanted just as glaringly as the stuff which did come out ok lol, like i said though, i will revisit her at some point to finish the Cage Antennae once i work out the way to do it properly cheers everyone and you should know a IJN ship isn't going to tempt me Jason
  10. Decided i had to call time on this project, i've been working on this since 2007 and it was the first ship i ever started, looking back at the project ive learnt a whole lot, but made a load of silly mistakes (most notably attempting a major revision for my first ever ship!) almost right out off the bat some filler i had used managed to burn a hole through the hull at the bow which needed repairing, the cage antennas proved to be a bit beyond my skill and awnings really never looked as good as i hoped, then the seascape didnt work for me and the dock i originally planned to have her moored against just wasn't working ll that being said it holds a special place for me, I always liked Hood, she's my favorite ship and she looked her best in 1924 on the empire cruise, Learnt so much on Hood that when i did KGV in 2011 she was a far better ship that i would have been able to do when i started Hood Im currently collecting the 1/200 Hood magazine set, so i will revisit Hood again in a year or so, and might give another 1/350 a go sometime, but for now its time to call it done and move on to something else few pics for the meantime, enjoy, but dont judge too harshly
  11. Well pretty much calling this good, couple of bits here and there need cleaning up, but shes pretty much done Proper photos will be in RFI in the next few days, now im going to bed
  12. Got the yards pretty much done, just need a touch of paint, took a lot longer than they did with KGV not as happy with them, but as before its in a "just want to get it done" frame of mind just now hehe, Rig is more or less done now, so tomorrow ill start touching up the last few bits and pieces, put the quarterdeck awning back on and a bit of work on the sea cheers
  13. Well like i said i might go back, for me it was important to start moving forward though or else she would forever languish on the shelf of shame (also known as the place where unfinished builds go to die) and ive put to much into Hood to let that happen dammit! So once ive finished everything else, i might (note MIGHT) give them another go. Phill R once mentioned something called Ceramic wire so will look into that again, plus my mate Jason suggested copper wire strands from a household lead (he also mentioned i should make sure the device is no longer require, and not currently plugged in before cutting it up ) So who knows, we'll see when we get to the end, most of today we taken up changing the chain and sprocket on my Motorbike but im settling in to work on the yard's right now, so might be another pick in a few hrs
  14. Just to show work is still ongoing more than anything a small update, made a proper start on the rigging after 3 fruitless days trying to get the cage antennae onto the ship ive decided to call it quits on those and just go with normal stretched spru, at least until i can find a more reliable way to make the rig and transfer them to the ship, they take so long to make and are so delicate that the slightest slip while affixing them to the model can literally destroy a days work, it was getting to the point where i could feel my entusiasm dying so i figured it better to forget them and get the rest of the ship finished, i can always revisit the rig later if i learn a better way to do them by comparison im flying through this, did all that in about 3 hrs and while note 100% accurate to the period, it looks good enough, so it will do for now, Id just like to get the bloody ship finished at this point haha (at this rate ill have all the parts for the 1/200 Hood before im finished this thing ) So with a little luck the Rig will be finished tomorrow, then it will be final touch ups before she's all finished, end is assuredly in sight
  15. Basically I apply toilet paper (not kitchen towel) first in horizontal and then vetical lengths using the Blue Peter PVA mixture (2 parts water 1 part PVA) and using a largish brush give some texture while its whet to give the wave effect Then i paint is going dark colour to light, THEN i add more TP and PVA to form the ships wake, and I paint that Light colour to dark, Drybrush with some white to give the waves some definition and finally a good coating of clear acrylic gel I go into more detail in my KGV build (link in the sig)
  16. Well, I literally had to blow the cobwebs off to get back to this, but yes, Hood is once again in #1 Graving dock for some attention, had to spent most of yesterday just trying to clean the blighter without breaking too much lol Gonna make a big push, and see if i can get this thing done (yes yes i know you've heard it all before blah blah) so basicly after cleaning, i need to re-make the cage antennas which im doing now, and decided to scrap the pier, I just really wasnt happy with the sea, looked too rough for shallow water, and really didnt want to face having to weather is and everything, so thats removed, might use it for Repulse, havent decided yet but here are a couple of pics of todays work primarily on the sea base I had to repaint the entire hull insitue which was a BALLACHE since the airbrush spat a load of paint while i was doing the sea, but managed to get it all done and looking more or less shipshape worth noting that this model has now taken longer to build, than the actual ship till next time
  17. Thanks for all the comments everyone Inso: yes the camo was all done by hand, lots and lots of tamiya tape, really wish id known about the camo masks beforehand
  18. All finished and posted in RFI http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234937454-metal-gear-rex/
  19. What ho chaps and chapesses, After a short interlude off to Australia im back and finally finished off my MG-REX model Decided to paint it in a Digital Camo pattern which was an absolute BALLACHE! but the end result is actually really sweet and im very happy with it. Added some decals, mostly from a 1/72 F-22 Kit of course the problem with low-vis Grey markings on a grey model is some of them really dont stand out very well, but i suspect thats the whole point of low-vis markings in the first place I also weathers the model with a mixture of an oil-wash, some Promodeller Dark Dirt, and some cMK Star Dust which gave a great effect, i tried to keep the dust confined to the lower parts of the legs and the underside of the model where i guess the dust would be kicked up. now unfortunately something has literally eaten away at some of the plastic, I had a couple of parts literally crumble away while i was moving the mode, so i decided to post id and reinforce with glue the joints, so it really isnt re-posable now, im not sure if it was poor plastic being use int he modelling, or a reaction to something i painted with (but that was just acrylics, an oil wash and a spray of Halfords clear) so just be careful if your making this kit, but otherwise very happy witht he end result thanks for looking, hope you like it
  20. I built one of these, great kit, you'll need to work out how you plan to display it hehe painting generic panels is a PITA
  21. Yeh its Jas Andrew, fair few of us hiding around these parts heh
  22. Hey Guys Been over in the land down under working and taking some photos at Avalon, thought I'd throw them up on Flickr to share. Enjoy
  23. So yeh, bet you thought id forgotten about this and she was languishing on the bottom of the stash, nope no annoyingly I got it into my head that Digital Camo might be a good look for the REX aaannndd that kinda takes a while to apply all that tape http://www.flickr.com/photos/andy3e/8433252149/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/andy3e/8433252119/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/andy3e/8433252043/'> http://www.flickr.com/photos/andy3e/8433252057/'> So still need to touch up a few places, and then apply a wash, but thought id share where we are at the moment, anyway hope you like it, cos like hell im gonna repaint it at this point
