Looking for SAAF Mirage F.1 info
gregair replied to Corsairfoxfouruncle's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Yes they did, I have photographs of SAAF F1AZ taking off for a mission into Angola carrying a belly tank and 4x Matra 155 rocket pods, one on each wing pylon and another with two under wing tanks and one Matra 155 under each wing. The rocket pods were natural metal with black area on front and later they were dark green with light blue/grey underneath. Here are a pair of SAAF F1AZs at low level carrying a natural metal belly tank and 4x Matra rocket pods each https://aviationhumor.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Mirage-F1-camo.jpeg Here is an SAAF F1CZ carrying a pair https://ar.pinterest.com/pin/542261611359038052/- 24 replies

Transall C-160Z camouflage colours
gregair replied to Truro Model Builder's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Aside from the Silver / White scheme, SAAF C-160's only had one other scheme and that was overall wraparound dark earth/olive drab with the only exception being the fuselage underside which was in either dark sea grey or sometimes reported as PRU blue, I am not sure which is correct but here are two photos for you to decide, you can look at SAAF C-130's from the 1980's as well because they were in the same scheme and that might help you decide which is correct dark sea grey or PRU blue -

Man, what a great and interesting topic! -
This is an excellent and very interesting thread. This poor fellow could be in the top three just for having to endure such a long name! Captain Andrew Frederick Weatherby Beauchamp-Proctor, VC, DSO, MC & Bar, DFC

Italeri 1/72 MB326 Impala Mk 1 and Mk 2 (SAAF)
gregair replied to Mach82's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Hi Mach82, Both really beautiful builds, so nice to see, Impala is one of my all time favorite aircraft. I grew up on the Bluff in Durban and spent many hours sitting on the roof of our house watching the Imps flying around, I was really excited when 5 Sqd added the Mk2's to the Mk1's that they were already operating. And then there was the annual air combat camp every June/July when the Mirage squadrons and 85 air combat school (85 ACS Sabres too) sent aircraft to Durban. Great memories, here are some pics of 5 Sqd Imp Mk1 and Mk2 all taken at Durban air force base or over the city, I hope you guys don't mind the pics....I thought it would be good memories for Mach82 -

Hi folks, I know that this is an old topic (yet fascinating to me), has there been any new findings regarding Nowotny's Me-262 White 8?

The tank in the pic is actually an Olifant Mk2 but thats close enough for me! Easiest way to tell Mk1B and Mk2 apart is that tall sighting system on top of the turret, other than that its minor visible details. I cannot wait for this kit to hit the shops whooo hooo

I would "kill" for a few good quality 1/35 injection molded Ratels....Ratel 90, Command, 20 etc

I cant see the pics, anyone else having this problem?

Man I really hope that the 1/48 Super Mystere B2 arrives soon! Yes the other aircraft would be great in 1/48 too, Mystere II, IV, Mirage F1 and dare I say it.....Vautour!!!! But I guess that we can only hope at this stage.

I believe that the bulge that you speak of is a different shape between the two aircraft If you look carefully you can see noticeably difference between the two aircraft here- This thread is about building the airfix kit, it gives a nice photo of the airfix "bulge" and of the correct shape for an FAA A-4P (A-4B) http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=47356&start=40 Here someone built both Argentine versions in 1/48 http://hsfeatures.com/features04/a4cppds_1.htm
